'Liver King' influencer arrested in Texas after threatening Joe Rogan
A social media fitness influencer known as the "Liver King" was arrested on Tuesday after posting threatening messages directed to popular podcaster Joe Rogan on social media, according to police.
The Austin Police Department said in a statement that they arrested Brian Johnson after learning that he was traveling to Austin, where Rogan lives, and threatening the highly influential podcaster in a series of videos he posted to Instagram.
"Joe Rogan, I'm calling you out, my name's Liver King. Man to man, I'm picking a fight with you," Johnson said in a video he posted on Monday. "I have no training in jiu-jitsu, you're a black belt, you should dismantle me. But I'm picking a fight with you. Your rules, I'll come to you, whenever you're ready."
In another video he posted that day, he similarly challenged Rogan to fight "man to man."
"You never come across something like this, willing to die, hoping that you'll choke me out because that's a dream come true," Johnson said.
Police said they contacted Rogan on Tuesday, who told them that he never previously interacted with Johnson and considered the posts to be threatening.
Later that day, Johnson was apprehended at the Four Seasons Hotel and charged with terroristic threat, a class B misdemeanor, police said.
Representatives for Johnson and Rogan did not immediately return requests for comment.
The "Liver King's" videos promote what he describes as the "ancestral lifestyle," which includes consuming large amounts of raw meat and animal organs, particularly animal liver. His dietary techniques have been criticized by nutritionists for spreading misinformation.
Johnson has never been a guest of Rogan's highly successful podcast. However, Johnson and his alleged steroid use — which Johnson initially denied and then later apologized for — were the subject of one of Rogan's podcast episodes in 2023, which has more than 8.7 million views on YouTube.
A video showing Johnson being handcuffed and put into a police vehicle was posted to his Instagram account — which has more than 3 million followers — on Tuesday.

Either way, fans are convinced that Billy isn't lying and is actually innocent. So if not Billy, then who is targeting Joe and why? Viewers are suspicious of two characters in particular, both of whom blame Joe for the deaths of three characters including someone close to them. Joe caused the drugging of his brother Noah Dingle, leading to him wandering out into the road on the night of the limo crash. As driver Charity Dingle swerved to avoid hitting her son Noah, she crashed onto an icy lake. The accident caused the deaths of Leyla Harding, Suzy Merton and Amy Wyatt. At the recent party where Joe was exposed for what happened that night, Amy's mother Kerry made it clear she wanted payback. Amy's husband Matty Barton was also distraught and wanted Joe to face up to his actions. So with both of them wanting Joe to pay, could it be one or both of them who are out to get him? Last weekend, political prisoner Siarhei Tsikhanouski, along with 13 other people held captive in Belarusian jails, was suddenly released after five years, following secret negotiations by American diplomats. Video footage showed him exiting a black car straight into the arms of his wife, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who was waiting for him in Lithuania, where she has been living in exile since 2020. He has since recounted how guards had put a black bag over his head, before putting him in a minibus with other prisoners, with no idea where he was going, or why. Suddenly, she found herself at the head of the pro-democracy movement in Belarus, going head-to-head with Mr Lukashenko in an election which she is widely believed to have won, with 60 per cent of the vote. Mr Lukashenko, however, didn't agree and she was forced to flee the country with her family, eventually setting up an opposition government in exile in Lithuania. "I was an ordinary person who didn't care about the policy of the Belarusian government,' she told me in October 2022, as plain-clothes police officers wearing ear pieces scanned the cafe for potential threats from the next table. 'I took care of my family. I wasn't involved in politics and didn't want to be. I didn't want to understand how everything works, how our foreign policy works, who are our friends and our enemies. A couple of hours after his arrival in Lithuania, the pair were filmed hosting the other newly released prisoners at their home, with a formal press conference the next day. Of course, he knew his wife had stood in the elections and left Belarus: until two years ago, he was receiving semi-regular visits from his lawyer. However, he cannot have envisaged the scale of her current status on the world stage. She travels the globe, her social media accounts demonstrating the hard work and effort put into raising the profile of the plight of Belarus. She has had to sacrifice family time. She told me she often only sees her children for one day a week, a stark contrast to the time before her husband's imprisonment, when she admits she spent 'all [her] time' with them. It is hard not to compare the couple to Russian dissident Alexei Navalny and his wife, Yulia. She has also taken on the political cause fought by her husband – against Putin. Yet the end to their story is very different: Mr Navalny died in an Arctic Circle prison over a year ago. Mr Tsikhanouskaya has said he believes he owes his life to Mr Navalny's plight. 'When Alexei Navalny died, I thought, that'll probably be me soon…' he said. 'And then something changed. It was clear that someone at the top said, 'Make sure he doesn't die here. We don't need that problem.''
