As the Star first reported last week, the man was reportedly able to get between the defence counsel's and judge's tables at the fly-in court in Wapekeka First Nation with what police say was a knife, before he was shot by an OPP officer. The Special Investigations Unit is now probing the incident.

Community identifies 23-year-old as man shot dead by police in Ontario court
A First Nation community in northwestern Ontario has identified the man who was shot dead by provincial police in a courtroom last week. Wapekeka First Nation says the community is mourning the death of 23-year-old Tyresse Kenny Padro Cree Roundsky, who died on July 31. Shibogama First Nations Council, which counts the First Nation as a member, confirmed that he was shot in a temporary courtroom housed at a youth centre. Wapekeka First Nation says he will be missed by his family, friends and primary caregiver. The Special Investigations Unit is investigating the shooting, which they say happened after a police officer was approached by a man with a knife at the fly-in courtroom in the middle of the day. Investigators say the man and the officer had an interaction before the officer shot his gun at the man who was pronounced dead on scene. The SIU says a post-mortem exam was scheduled for Sunday, though the investigation is ongoing and further information has yet to be released. Wapekeka First Nation said in a statement that funeral arrangements are being made for Roundsky and that a crisis worker is available for people who need support. Listowel driver clocked at more than 70 km/h over the speed limit: police
A driver from Listowel will have to find a new way to get around for a while after the Ontario Provincial Police said he was caught going 70 km/h over the speed limit. Officers with the Wellington County OPP said they saw the vehicle travelling on Wellington Road 9 within Mapleton Township on Tuesday around 2:30 a.m. The speed limit along that stretch of road is typically 80 km/h, unless otherwise posted. A 66-year-old from Listowel was charged with stunt driving – excessive speed. Their vehicle has been impounded for 14 days and their driver's licence has been suspended for 30 days.

OPP seeking suspects in Hawkesbury arson investigation
OPP are looking for two suspects in a reported arson at a pizzeria in Hawkesbury on Aug. 4, 2025. (OPP/handout) Ontario Provincial Police are asking for the public's help locating suspects following a fire at a local pizzeria. Police say officers were called to a restaurant on James Street at around 11:30 p.m. Monday on reports of an arson. Smoke and flames were visible inside the restaurant when police arrived. Witnesses told police they saw two men start the fire and then walk away. It's believed two other men spotted in a white Chevrolet Malibu might also be involved. The suspected arsonists are described by police only as 'tall and thin.' They were wearing black sweaters at the time of the incident, and one had a medical-style mask on. 'We know this photo is dark and low rez, but it could spark someone's attention,' police said of a photo that was distributed on social media.
