Recently Announced Retirement, Indian Cricketer Set For First Coaching Assignment, Know Team & Other Detals
A CAB official confirmed the development, saying, 'The CAB brass will be zeroing in on all the candidates for various teams by next week. Obviously, Wriddhi has been sounded out, and a final decision will be taken next week. Apart from Sourav Ganguly and Pankaj Roy, he is the biggest name from Bengal with 40 Tests.'
Saha has been one of the most consistent performers for Bengal over the years and is widely respected for his knowledge of the game. If appointed, his presence could prove to be a valuable asset for the young players in the U-23 setup, who would benefit from his international experience and understanding of high-level cricket. The report also noted that Saha has already gained hands-on coaching experience by running multiple cricket centres, which further adds to his suitability for the role.
Importantly, his potential appointment will not interfere with Laxmi Ratan Shukla's current role as head coach of the Bengal senior team. Shukla is set to continue in that capacity for the upcoming season.
Saha had briefly parted ways with Bengal in 2022 due to differences with the state association and played the 2022–23 Ranji Trophy season for Tripura after receiving a No Objection Certificate. However, he returned to Bengal last year and retired from domestic cricket after completing the season with his home state.
Last season, the Bengal U-23 side was coached by Pranab Roy, the son of cricketing great Pankaj Roy. With CAB set to finalise coaching appointments soon, Saha's name is firmly in the mix for a significant step in his post-retirement career. Playing Career
In Test cricket, where he last played in December 2021, he featured in 40 matches, scoring 1,353 runs from 56 innings at an average of 29.41, including 3 centuries and 6 fifties, while effecting 92 catches and 12 stumpings. His One Day International (ODI) career, which concluded in November 2014, saw him play 9 matches, accumulating 41 runs from 5 innings at an average of 13.66, with 17 catches and 1 stumping. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), as of the 2024 season, Saha has participated in 170 matches, amassing 2,934 runs from 145 innings at an average of 24.25, highlighted by 1 century (the first in an IPL final) and 13 fifties, alongside 89 catches and 26 stumpings. He is widely recognized for his exceptional wicketkeeping prowess, characterized by his agility and reliable glovework, complementing his resilient batting in Tests and quick scoring ability in T20s.

India call-up most significant step of my career, says Jagadeesan
When N. Jagadeesan was preparing to leave for practice on Thursday in his hometown of Coimbatore, his focus would have been to get ready for the TNCA first division league next week. Little did he expect to be picked for the Indian team to be part of the fifth Test against England next week, replacing the injured Rishabh Pant. 'I was surprised when I got the call,' said Jagadeesan. 'It is the most significant step of my career and a dream come true. I have grown up thinking about this very moment. It is a great feeling not just for me but my parents and coach (A.G. Guruswamy) as well.' The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter has been rewarded for his consistent performances in the last two seasons of the Ranji Trophy, where he topped the run-charts for his side. A key person behind the 29-year-old's resurgence in recent times has been former India player Robin Uthappa. 'We have known each other since our CSK days. A couple of years ago, after not being picked in the IPL, I felt I needed a mentor, and we got in touch. He has helped me a lot. He has given me a sense of security about how I feel as a cricketer. 'I have worked with him to improve my mindset in terms of goal-setting, manifesting and also technical aspects of the game, especially in T20 cricket. He has a lot of experience and has gone through ups and downs and knows how it works in international cricket,' explained Jagadeesan. The TN vice-captain also felt that his promotion to the opening spot two years ago had helped him, considering he had a stable slot in the batting order. As he now awaits his visa before joining the team, Jagadeesan adds, 'I just want to be in the present, enjoy this moment and not get over excited.'

Diksha makes a solid start with 69, lies 17th in Scotland
Agency: Dundonald Links (Scotland), July 25 (PTI) Diksha Dagar rallied on the back nine with three birdies to compile a fine round of 3-under 69 on the first day of the 2025 ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open at Dundonald Links. Diksha was tied-17th and the best among the three Indians. Diksha, who has been having a great season in 2025, but is still looking for her first win, was three shots behind Charlotte Laffar, who fired an opening round of 66 (-6). The other two Indians in the field Pranavi Urs (75), who is coming back after a long injury lay-off and Tvesa Malik (77) were way behind. Pranavi was T-107 and Tvesa was T-126. Diksha, starting out on the front nine shot birdied the fourth but gave that shot back on the sixth. She fought back on the back nine with birdies on the 12th, 14th and the 16th for a 69. England's Laffar began her day with a bogey at the first before back-to-back birdies on three and four, she added a further birdie on the seventh to make the turn in two-under. Laffar found some momentum after the turn, rolling in four birdies in five holes between 10 and 14 before another dropped shot on 15. However, she bounced back, rolling in a 20-footer for birdie at the 17th hole to sit alone at the top of the leaderboard on six-under-par. The 32-year-old Laffar only returned to the Ladies European Tour (LET) in May at the Aramco Korea Championship after taking four years off to have her sons Freddie and Oscar. Five players are in a share of second place with Ireland's Leona Maguire, Japan's Rio Takeda, Spain's Nuria Iturrioz, England's Lottie Woad and Thailand's Arpichaya Yubol all on five-under-par. Ireland's Maguire had a bogey-free opening round of 67 (-5), which included an eagle hole-out on her first hole of the day. The 2025 KPMG Women's Irish Open champion Woad, who made her professional debut today, rolled in six birdies and only one bogey on day one in Scotland. Thailand's Yubol had a steady start with two bogeys and two birdies on her front nine before rolling in five birdies on her back nine for her round of 67 (-5). Agency: Blaine (US), Jul 25 (PTI) Indian-Americans Akshay Bhatia and Sahih Theegala faced contrasting fortunes on the opening day of the 3M Open on the PGA Tour as the season moved towards the FedExCup play-offs. Bhatia, who was Tied-30th at the Open last week, shot a superb 5-under 66 in a low-scoring first round and was T-19th. While Theegala, who had an injury lay-off before the Open shot 1-over and was T-126 and in danger of missing another cut.
