CPI leader Chandu Rathod's murder: 3 aides of accused held in Andhra Pradesh; main shooters still at large

HYDERABAD: Three persons who allegedly aided the accused in the murder of CPI state council member Kethavath Chandu Rathod were picked up by Malakpet police on Friday from
Andhra Pradesh
. They are being interrogated to track down the main accused who remain on the run in AP, cops said.
Police said two of the arrested men are associates of main offender, Rajesh alias Rajanna. They had monitored the movements of Chandu Rathod (47) near his house and Shalivahana Nagar Park where he was gunned down after his morning walk on Tuesday by Rajesh, Prashanth and Yedu Kondalu.
'The duo kept informing Rajesh about the movements of the victim,' said a cop, adding that the third person helped the killers in getting out of the city. The men were caught from Potti Sriramulu Nellore district. Police teams are raiding different places, but have not succeeded in nabbing the killers, who are suspected to be hiding in Kavali town and surrounding areas.

The magazines seized from the gang on Tuesday evening near Cotton Green railway station bear the Made in USA and Made in Italy claimed that the accused individuals, identified as Sunny Nareshkumar (26), Ravi Angrez (23), Rahul Prithvi Singh (27), Anuj Kuldeep Kumar (28), and Aditya Kaushik (23), admitted that they had come to Mumbai to sell the weapons. A case was registered under the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act. Further investigation is underway.

Greater Noida Five members of a gang that allegedly provided bank accounts, debit cards, and pre-activated SIM cards to cybercriminals involved in digital arrest and stock trading frauds, were arrested on Wednesday, police said. Officers said that the suspects had data related to around 40 bank accounts and mobile numbers registered with those accounts, and access to the registered numbers was also provided to cybercriminals through an application. (HT Photos) Police identified them as Chanpreet Singh, 25, and Ranvir Singh, 22, both residents of Bhopal; Jagmohan Dhakad, 19, and Naveen Raikwar, 19, from Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh; and Aditya Sharma, 21, hailing from Delhi but living in Surajpur, Greater Noida. 'We received a tip-off that a gang involved in collecting bank account credentials from account holders and providing them to cybercriminals was active in Greater Noida,' said deputy commissioner of police (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthy. 'With the help of manual intelligence, the suspects were arrested from Surajpur area of Greater Noida,' the officer added. 'Five mobile phones, eight SIM cards, seven debit cards, and other documents were recovered from their possession,' the DCP added. An investigation revealed that the suspects had links with cybercriminals and were providing bank account details to dupe people with fraudulent schemes such as digital arrest. 'They used to acquire the accounts at 1% commission from the account holders and then transfer the credentials to cybercriminals for ₹ 15,000 each,' DCP Avasthy said, adding that all MP residents resided at Aditya's residence and had been operating for two months. Officers said that the suspects had data related to around 40 bank accounts and mobile numbers registered with those accounts, and access to the registered numbers was also provided to cybercriminals through an application. A case under sections of cheating, forgery, and criminal intimidation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the IT Act was registered at Surajpur police station. Investigation is going on to trace transactions made from the compromised bank accounts, police said.

Ghaziabad: A 26-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly purchasing counterfeit currency notes and circulating these in trans-Hindon localities of Ghaziabad, the police said on Wednesday. Officers said that they have also booked the unidentified online friend of the suspect. (Sakib Ali/HT Photo) Police identified him as Ujjwal Jha, a resident of Mandoli, Delhi, working as an assistant manager at a pharmaceutical firm. He was arrested in the Vasundhara Sector 1 area while heading to Raj Nagar on a two-wheeler to hand over the fake currency to one of his contacts, said officers. 'During interrogation, the suspect told police that he met a person on a social media platform a few months ago. Later, during conversations, this online friend offered to provide him fake notes with the face value of ₹3 lakh for ₹1 lakh. He bought them and circulated in markets besides supplying them to his contacts,' said assistant commissioner of police (ACP) (Indirapuram circle) Abhishek Srivastava. Police recovered 566 fake currency notes of ₹500 denomination allegedly from his possession. 'The fake notes look like the original currency notes and will soon be sent to a forensic lab,' the officer said. 'The physical exchange of fake currency notes happened between the suspect and his online friend. We have certain information about the online friend of the suspect, and all backward and forward linkages in the entire chain are being traced as part of the investigation,' the ACP added. Jha is suspected to be a link in the chain where fake notes are getting printed and supplied further, officers said, adding that he has purportedly admitted to have purchased fake notes from his online friend earlier as well. The suspect has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 318(4) (cheating), 178 (counterfeiting coins, government stamps, currency notes, or bank notes), 179 (using forged or counterfeit coins, government stamps, currency notes, or bank notes as genuine), and 180 (possessing forged or counterfeit coin, government stamp, currency-note, or bank-note) at Indirapuram police station. Officers said that they have also booked the unidentified online friend of the suspect.
