LSU Lands Massive Recruiting News on Monday
Finney, a Los Angeles native, was ranked as the No. 1 cornerback and a top-5 overall recruit in 2027 before reclassifying to the 2026 class.

Finney fielded offers from nearly every top program in the nation. The 6-foot-3, 170-lbs defensive back visited the Oregon Ducks for Junior Day on Jan. 25 and had visits scheduled with the Ohio State Buckeyes and USC Trojans later this summer.
The Sierra Canyon CB announced his commitment decision live on 247Sports.com. The announcement was initially supposed to narrow his options down to a top-3, but he chose to surprise his mother with a commitment to LSU on her birthday.
"This process has been great, it's a blessing," Finney said. "It's always been a dream of mine to get to this point, and now I'm here."
"LSU was an easy choice for me," he added The coaching staff, the environment and alumni base that they have. I can build connections on and off the field there."
Kelly and the Tigers boast one of the nation's best recruiting classes in 2026. LSU currently ranks No. 4, trailing only USC, Clemson and Notre Dame. In addition to Finney, the program also has a commitment from five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys out of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

LSU also has the No. 10 ranked recruiting class joining to the program before their 2025 season, boasting two five-star and 19 four-star recruits.
The Tigers will kickoff their 2025 college football campaign with a highly-anticipated matchup against Clemson on Aug. 30.

2025 college football predictions: Why Jeremiyah Love will win the Heisman trophy
Gambling content 21+. The New York Post may receive an affiliate commission if you sign up through our links. Read our editorial standards for more information. This year's race for the Heisman Trophy has a little bit of everything. Arch Manning, the well-hyped quarterback for Texas, is the favorite at +650, but there are three other players between that price at 10/1 at bet365 Sportsbook. Garrett Nussmeier, the veteran LSU signal-caller, is the second favorite at +850, just ahead of Cade Klubnik of Clemson. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, the only non-quarterback inside of 30/1, is the fourth favorite at 10/1. LaNorris Sellers, who rounds out the top five at 16/1, received plenty of hype over the summer after he finished the 2024 season in great form for South Carolina. 2025 Heisman Trophy odds Player (Team) Odds Arch Manning (Texas) +650 Garrett Nussmeier (LSU) +850 Cade Klubnik (Clemson) +900 Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State) 10/1 LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina) 16/1 Drew Allar (Penn State) 18/1 Ty Simpson (Alabama) 18/1 Carson Beck (Miami) 20/1 Dante Moore (Oregon) 20/1 DJ Lagway (Florida) 20/1 Julian Sayin (Ohio State) 20/1 Gunner Stockton (Georgia) 22/1 John Mateer (Oklahoma) 25/1 Austin Simmons (Ole Miss) 33/1 Jeremiyah Love (Notre Dame) 33/1 CJ Carr (Notre Dame) 35/1 Odds via bet365 Sellers, along with fellow SEC sophomore DJ Lagway, received plenty of buzz over the offseason and could wind up as two of the most popular options outside of Manning by the time the season kicks off. Another big mover was quarterback Ty Simpson, who saw his price get slashed in half after he was named as Alabama's starter for Week 1. 2025 Heisman best bets Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame (40/1, FanDuel) The Heisman Trophy is not apples to apples with the NFL MVP. While the latter almost always just goes to the best quarterback in that season, the Heisman gets passed around, with two non-QBs winning it in the last five years. Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love could make it three in six, so long as the Fighting Irish continue to trend in the right direction. There's no secret to how the Irish want to play. They're a throwback, who wants to ground-and-pound you into submission. That's good news for those looking to back Love in this market. The junior from St. Louis tallied 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns on 163 carries in 2024, carrying the Irish all the way to the title game. Notre Dame is expected to contend for the championship again in 2025, and if they come close, it will likely mean Love is in the running for the Heisman. Avery Johnson of Kansas State could be in store for a big 2025. AP Avery Johnson, Kansas State (50/1, FanDuel) A couple of injuries limited Avery Johnson in his sophomore season in the Little Apple, but there was still plenty to love about the dual-threat quarterback. Johnson finished the 2024 campaign with 2,712 yards passing and 25 touchdowns, and he added another 605 yards and seven scores on the ground. In a healthy year, playing for the Big 12 favorites, those numbers should tick up, which would put him Heisman-candidate territory. Blake Horvath, Navy (400/1, BetMGM) We've gone deeper on this pick here, but there's still time to get on the bandwagon for the Navy quarterback who finished last year with a ridiculous statistical profile. Horvath was responsible for 30 touchdowns for the Midshipmen in 2024, running for 17 and adding 13 more through the air. Betting on College Football? The Ohio native ranked 20th in the country with 1,254 yards on the ground, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. If Navy gets into the Playoff, which is not out of the question, Horvath could be one of the favorites for this award. Auburn retiring Cam Newton's No. 2 jersey on Oct. 11
Auburn is retiring the No. 2 jersey of Heisman Trophy winner and national champion quarterback Cam Newton. The ceremony will take place on Oct. 11 during the Tigers' game against rival Georgia at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Newton, 36, will be just the fourth player so honored at Auburn, joining fellow Heisman winners Bo Jackson (No. 34) and Pat Sullivan (No. 7) along with record-setting receiver Terry Beasley (No. 88). No Auburn player has worn the No. 2 since Newton led the unbeaten Tigers (14-0) to a BCS national championship and won the Heisman in 2010. "Auburn will always be home to me," Newton said in a statement. "The national championship we won in 2010 was a special moment, and to have my jersey retired alongside legends like Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, and Terry Beasley is an incredible honor that I'll cherish forever. War Eagle!" Newton passed for 2,854 yards with 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions and ran for 1,473 yards and 20 scores in his lone season at Auburn. In addition to the Heisman Trophy, he was rewarded with the Maxwell, Walter Camp, Manning, Davey O'Brien and AP Player of the Year awards. He became the No. 1 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers and played 11 seasons, winning NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2015 and earning three Pro Bowl selections. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Sawyer Robertson and Baylor hope to build off 2024 finish that removed dismal feel around Dave Aranda's team
The feeling surrounding coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears was getting downright dismal midway through last season. A six-game winning streak certainly changed the mood, and expectations, especially for quarterback Sawyer Robertson and other players who went through that extended slide. 'A lot of the guys that are here right now, and that had roles in last year's successful season, were also on that 3-9 team (in 2023) when nobody liked us,' Robertson said. 'So just keeping that chip on our shoulder is the main thing, and building off of how we ended last season.' Some now even consider Baylor, 8-5 last season after a bowl loss to LSU, a dark-horse contender for another Big 12 title. Before winning its final six regular-season games last year, Baylor was in a 5-17 tailspin that went back to a four-game losing streak at the end of 2022. That was just a season after being Big 12 champions, winning the Sugar Bowl and ranking fifth in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll in Aranda's second year. 'It's good to have the momentum, but we've got to realize it's a new season, new team,' fifth-year receiver Josh Cameron said. 'There's always going to be different dynamics.' Runners and catchers Baylor has the only 1,000-yard rusher returning in the Big 12 from last season, and has back its top two receivers. Bryson Washington ran for 1,029 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, and caught 22 passes. Along with Dawson Pendergrass (671 yards, six TDs), that gives Baylor one of the league's top running back duos. Cameron, a former walk-on, had 52 catches for 754 yards and 10 TDs last year. He was also the FBS leader averaging 20.7 yards on punt returns. 'Just kind of treat myself and carry myself as like, 'Man, I'm a walk-on.' So I'm still trying to fight for that spot. I'm still trying to fight for what's mine,' he said. 'That's like the main thing that's really keeps me going.' The Bears got a big boost when the NCAA cleared former Texas State transfer Ashtyn Hawkins (45 catches, 567 yards, five TDs) for another season with Baylor. Sawyer's journey Robertson spent two seasons at Mississippi State before transferring to Baylor, where he made four starts as a sophomore before taking over full-time in the third game last season. Even while hampered by a lower-body injury the second half of last season, he threw for 3,071 yards and 28 touchdowns with only eight interceptions. He added 230 yards and four TDs on the ground. Defensive focus While Jake Spavital goes into his second season as offensive coordinator, Aranda again will primarily focus on defense; he took the Baylor job after being the defensive coordinator for LSU's national title in 2019. The Bears ranked in the bottom half of the Big 12 last season in pretty much every defensive category. They allowed more than 30 points and 433 yards in conference games. 'I'm sure there is,' Aranda said when asked if there is pressure on the defense to take another step. 'When you win, you want to feel like you contributed to the win. So I think that kind of sums up that side of the ball.' Protecting up front Baylor returns four starters on the offensive line, a group with a lot of quality depth after that. 'It's the most depth of any team I've been a part of. ... There's dudes right behind them that are pushing them, trying to take that job,' Aranda said. 'I think their aggressiveness and their ability to communicate are the two things that separate them.' Power start Baylor will open the season against a team from another power conference for the first time since going to Wake Forest in 2009. The Bears host Auburn in a night opener Aug. 29, and a week later play at 16th-ranked team SMU, a playoff team last season in its first as an ACC member. Two of Baylor's first three Big 12 games are against defending champion No. 11 Arizona State and No. 17 Kansas State, though both are at home.
