Bobby played the menacing Udhiran, who locks horns with Suriya's warrior prince Kanguvan – ruler of the island of Perumaachi in the year 1070. Earlier, Suriya had described how Kanguva director Siva cast Bobby for Udhiran's role. According to the 49-year-old actor, director Siva had watched Bobby only in the Celebrity Cricket League before and only some clips. Based on those works, the director decided to rope in Bobby as the antagonist's character. Suriya said that by the time Bobby was selected for the Kanguva, his film Animal had not been released on the silver screens. Bobby Deol's Honest Take On Kanguva Flopping Talking about the film tanking at the box office, Bobby didn't hold back. 'What can you do when the script doesn't work out? Sometimes I just want to be happy while shooting for a film. I want to be there because as an actor, I can grow," he said.
