Amit Shah lays foundation stones for NFSU campus, Central Forensic Science Lab in Nava Raipur
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (June 22, 2025) laid the foundation stones for the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) campus and a Central Forensic Science Lab in Chhattisgarh's Nava Raipur Atal Nagar.
Mr. Shah, who is on a two-day visit of the State during which he will tour a security camp and chair meetings on ongoing anti-Maoist operations, was accompanied by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Assembly Speaker Raman Singh and Ministers.
The State Government has allotted 40 acres of land for the NFSU campus, which will be built by the Centre at a cost of ₹400 crore, informed Deputy CM Vijay Sharma, who also holds the Home portfolio in the Sai Cabinet.
The Central Forensic Science Lab will come up on 6-7 acres of land near the NFSU campus, he added.
Later in the day, Mr. Shah will chair a meeting of Director Generals of Police (DGPs) and Additional DGPs of Chhattisgarh and six neighbouring States on anti-Maoist operations, after which he will take part in a meeting on the security situation and ongoing operations against Left Wing Extremism, Mr. Sharma said.
Mr. Shah will also meet the family members of Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Girpunje who lost his life after a pressure IED planted by Maoists exploded on June 9, the Deputy CM informed.
On Monday (June 23), Mr. Shah will visit a Border Security Force (BSF) camp in Narayanpur district, where he will interact with security personnel and Maoism-affected villagers.
He will also take a ground review of the development works going on there, Mr. Sharma added.
Anti-Maoist operations have intensified in Chhattisgarh since the BJP came to power after the 2023 Assembly polls.
Since January last year, more than 400 Maoist ultras have been gunned down by security forces in separate encounters.
The most notable was the killing of Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju (70), the general secretary and top most operative of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), in Bastar on May 21.
Mr. Shah has repeatedly declared that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre and State Government are committed to eradicating Maoism by March 31, 2026.

Upon noticing the police presence, he attempted to flee but was apprehended by the personnel and his search led to the recovery of the narcotic substance, he said. A case has been registered at Nowshera police station under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the official said. The accused has a history of involvement in criminal cases as three FIRs were registered against him between 2006 and 2020, police said. Sharma was first elected as sarpanch in November 2018 and resigned from the post after winning BDC elections in September 2019. He remained as BDC chairman for eight months from September 2019 before being removed from the position through a no-confidence motion in April 2020, the official said. He said police have started an investigation to trace the source of the contraband and identify any possible links to a broader drug trafficking network.

Manipur mourns as mortal remains of Air India crash victim Nganthoi Sharma reach Imphal
Guwahati: The mortal remains of Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma , one of the two Air India crew members from Manipur who were killed in the plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, arrived in Imphal on Sunday. Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma and 26-year-old Lamnunthem Singson , the two Air India crew members from Manipur were killed in the Ahmedabad plane crash. Grief-stricken family members of the slain crew member, senior officials, elected leaders, local people and community leaders received the mortal remains of Sharma at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal. Congress' Lok Sabha Member from Manipur Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Manipur Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh and many other important personalities paid floral tributes to Sharma. After some rituals and formalities, her body was later taken to Thoubal district , where the last rites would take place. Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma belonged to the non-tribal Meitei community and hailed from Manipur's Thoubal district. Earlier, family members of Sharma went to Ahmedabad to complete the necessary formalities for getting the remains of their loved one. Thousands of local people, family members, relatives and senior officials on June 20 bid a tearful farewell to 26-year-old Lamnunthem Singson, in Manipur's tribal inhabited Kangpokpi district. The mortal remains of Singson first arrived in Nagaland's Dimapur airport from Ahmedabad on June 19 and were then taken to Kangpokpi district, avoiding Manipur's capital, Imphal, due to the ongoing ethnic tension and security reasons. Singson was a resident of Kangpokpi district and belonged to the tribal Thadou community .

RAIPUR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday laid the foundation stones for two landmark projects in Chhattisgarh: a National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) campus and a Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. 'Graduating from NFSU will be like a job guarantee. You won't have to search elsewhere," Shah told students and youth. This is a great opportunity for the youths of Chhattisgarh. With 16 NFSU campuses across India (7 operational, 9 approved, and 10 proposed), the govt plans to develop 26 campuses in total. Shah said the system would eventually produce 32,000 forensic experts every year, exceeding India's current need of 30,000. 'The NFSU campus to be built at a cost of Rs 145 crore, and the CFSL, at Rs 123 crore, are part of a broader national push to modernize the criminal justice system and make India self-reliant in forensic science. Under the new criminal laws, it would become mandatory for a forensic team to visit the crime scene for any offense with a sentence of more than seven years. Chhattisgarh presently has four regional State Forensic Science laboratories in Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Durg and Jagdalpur. 'Now, with CFSL setting up, it will give a huge strength to our criminal justice system. There will be no need to go to other states for forensic probe or to send samples to Delhi for investigation. The entire investigation will be done in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar only. 'There was a time when arguments for justice were based on feelings or imagination and evidence, but I believe that the perfect result comes when there is proof and scientific evidence. With the help of FSL (forensic science lab), India will be among the countries with the highest conviction rate in the world within a few years,' he said. Its youth must lead it as entrepreneurs,' he emphasized, 'The i-Hub will help young innovators with practical validation, technological support, financial assistance, and mentorship, all under one roof. This move aligns with the government's vision to boost MSMEs and local start-ups, encouraging a culture of 'industrial adventurism' in state,' Shah said. The i-Hub High Hope initiative started on Sunday will not only help the youth who want to get their own start-ups but will also help them in checking the practicality of it and give them technological support, he said. It will also act as a bridge for financial support to begin with a start-up marketing experience and guidance will be provided by the single centre. 'Someone had sent me a survey which states the global forensic technology market is worth 20 billion US dollars, which will be worth 55 billion US dollars by 2036 with a 13% compound annual growth rate. The survey estimates India's share in it to be 9%. This is a huge potential our youth will get to explore through this,' Amit Shah added.
