Amit Shah lays foundation stones for NFSU campus, Central Forensic Science Lab in Nava Raipur
Mr. Shah, who is on a two-day visit of the State during which he will tour a security camp and chair meetings on ongoing anti-Maoist operations, was accompanied by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Assembly Speaker Raman Singh and Ministers.
The State Government has allotted 40 acres of land for the NFSU campus, which will be built by the Centre at a cost of ₹400 crore, informed Deputy CM Vijay Sharma, who also holds the Home portfolio in the Sai Cabinet.
The Central Forensic Science Lab will come up on 6-7 acres of land near the NFSU campus, he added.
Later in the day, Mr. Shah will chair a meeting of Director Generals of Police (DGPs) and Additional DGPs of Chhattisgarh and six neighbouring States on anti-Maoist operations, after which he will take part in a meeting on the security situation and ongoing operations against Left Wing Extremism, Mr. Sharma said.
Mr. Shah will also meet the family members of Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Girpunje who lost his life after a pressure IED planted by Maoists exploded on June 9, the Deputy CM informed.
On Monday (June 23), Mr. Shah will visit a Border Security Force (BSF) camp in Narayanpur district, where he will interact with security personnel and Maoism-affected villagers.
He will also take a ground review of the development works going on there, Mr. Sharma added.
Anti-Maoist operations have intensified in Chhattisgarh since the BJP came to power after the 2023 Assembly polls.
Since January last year, more than 400 Maoist ultras have been gunned down by security forces in separate encounters.
The most notable was the killing of Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju (70), the general secretary and top most operative of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), in Bastar on May 21.
Mr. Shah has repeatedly declared that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre and State Government are committed to eradicating Maoism by March 31, 2026.

When Shah assumed charge in June 2019, the nation faced deep and long-standing challenges. Jammu & Kashmir remained mired in political uncertainty and militant violence. Cybercrime, narcotics trafficking, illegal migration and inadequate disaster preparedness further tested the limits of India's security apparatus. This zero-tolerance approach to terrorism extended beyond Kashmir. In the Northeast, 12 peace accords in six years ended decades-old insurgencies, reduced AFSPA's footprint and enabled over 10,500 insurgents to surrender arms. Equally decisive has been the campaign against Maoist insurgency. Under Shah's leadership, incidents of Naxal violence have fallen sharply, major leaders have been neutralised and thousands have surrendered. His declared goal of eradicating Naxalism by March 2026 remains on track. Shah's vision of security extends into domains where battles are fought without bullets. In the realm of cybercrime, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has emerged as a national nerve centre, blocking fraudulent communications, dismantling online extortion rackets and preventing financial losses amounting to thousands of crores. His war on narcotics has been equally unrelenting, seizing drugs worth over Rs 1.1 lakh crore, breaking international trafficking networks and forging anti-drug cooperation with 46 countries. Disaster management too has shifted from reactive relief to proactive preparedness. State disaster funds have been substantially increased, geo-based early warning systems rolled out and international humanitarian missions executed with speed, from earthquake relief in Turkey and Syria to vaccine diplomacy during the Covid-19 pandemic. Losses from cyclones have been cut by an estimated 98 per cent, a testament to the effectiveness of early alerts and integrated response systems. Legislatively, his tenure has seen the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Act, granting refuge to persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries, and the introduction of three new criminal laws that overhaul India's justice delivery system. These reforms prioritise crimes against women and children, enable e-FIRs, mandate forensic evidence in serious cases and repeal the sedition law, ensuring justice is both swifter and fairer. Amit Shah's record is not merely one of longevity. It is also a rare blend of political continuity and administrative resolve to achieve results. He has redefined the contours of India's internal security, bringing peace to conflict zones, dismantling entrenched threats and preparing the nation for emerging challenges in an interconnected world. Lens on quarry owners-Maoist link after seizure of explosives from Kandhamal and Ganjam districts
BHUBANESWAR/BERHAMPUR : Even as the Centre has set March 2026 deadline to eradicate Naxalism in the country, the alleged nexus between Maoists and mines/stone quarry owners in the state has come under the scanner of Odisha Police after seizure of over nine tonne of explosives from Kandhamal and Ganjam districts. Police sources said about 9.4 tonne of explosives including gelatin sticks and boosters were seized from Tumudibandha in Kandhamal and Jagannathpur in Ganjam on August 15 and 16. A stone quarry owner along with two other persons were arrested in this connection. At least 4,000 detonators were also seized from the three accused. The seized detonators were reportedly manufactured by a firm in Andhra Pradesh. Earlier on July 17, police had seized about 600 detonators of the same brand from a Maoist dump in Kandhamal district during a combing operation. Briefing mediapersons here on Monday, ADG Operations Sanjeeb Panda said acting on a tip-off, Tumudibandha police conducted a raid while the explosives were being transported from Kandhamal to Bhawanipatna on August 15 night. The driver transporting them was arrested after he failed to produce any valid document regarding transportation of such a large consignment of explosives.

Jharkhand liquor scam: ACB court grants default bail to suspended IAS officer Vinay Choubey
RANCHI: Suspended IAS officer Vinay Choubey, who has been in jail since May 20 in connection with the Jharkhand liquor scam, has been granted default bail by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Ranchi under Section 187(2) of the BNSS. The court allowed bail on the condition that he must inform the court before leaving the state and not change his mobile number during the trial. He has also been directed to furnish two personal bonds of Rs 25,000 each. Choubey secured default bail as the ACB failed to file a chargesheet within the stipulated 90-day period. The investigating agency said the delay was due to the non-receipt of prosecution approval. The ACB had arrested Choubey on May 20 after questioning him in connection with the scam. He remains in judicial custody, and the state government has suspended him over the serious allegations. According to investigators, Choubey allegedly collaborated with the Chhattisgarh liquor syndicate to frame Jharkhand's new liquor policy, implemented on March 31, 2022, which caused financial losses to the state. At least 10 accused in the case are currently in jail, and they too may become eligible for default bail due to the non-filing of the chargesheet.
