‘M3GAN 2.0' Will Not Slay in Japan

Gizmodo5 days ago
The hits just keep coming for M3GAN 2.0, as Universal is opting to not release it in Japan.
Originally, the action-horror sequel was set to come out in the territory on October 10. Now, the movie's Japanese Twitter account announced in a (translated) post the studio 'decided to cancel the theatrical release of [the film]. We thank you for your continued support and ask for your understanding.'

— 映画『M3GAN/ミーガン 2.0』公式 (@m3gan_JP) August 1, 2025M3GAN 2.0 first came out in late June in North America and other territories, but it had some sizeable competition in How to Train Your Dragon and F1. With its thunder stolen, the box office dropoff was so steep, Blumhouse head Jason Blum admitted that it bit off more than it could chew. The sequel's theatrical release being junked in Japan only underlines how we might not see the android again for quite a while, if at all. At the time of writing, Universal hasn't announced if it'll put the film on streaming in the region.
On the other hand, the franchise's fortunes may be reversed in its upcoming spinoff, SOULM8TE. The already-made erotic thriller starring Lily Sullivan and David Rysdahl about a man buying an android to replace his dead wife is expected for January 2026, and it could be the save Blumhouse needs to keep making M3GAN movies. Until then, U.S. fans can watch M3GAN 2.0 digitally or wait for its physical, unrated release on September 23.

Sony Lifts Outlook on Entertainment Demand Despite Tariff Threat

Sony Group Corp. raised its earnings forecast on Thursday after a strong showing from its entertainment divisions that outweighed the threat of new US tariffs on chips. The Tokyo company now expects operating profit for the year ending March to be ¥1.33 trillion ($9 billion), versus the average of analyst estimates of ¥1.39 trillion. Back in May, in the midst of uncertainty around Washington's new import tax regime, Sony had warned its profit would take a ¥100 billion hit and set its forecast at ¥1.28 trillion. It said it now sees a tariff impact of around ¥70 billion on its operating income.

NEON Picks Up Movie Based on Surreal Japanese Horror Game

NEON Picks Up Movie Based on Surreal Japanese Horror Game originally appeared on GameDaily. The Exit 8 might not be a game that's widely known to gaming fans, but it is beloved by gamers who have played it. It's from Japanese development Kotake Create and is essentially a walking simulator about being trapped in an underground passageway and trying to figure out how to escape by observing your surroundings. The game is very surreal and features elements of horror. This led to Genki Kawamura directing a feature film version of the game. The film is set to release in Japan on August 29. Luckily, American fans will eventually get a chance to see the film. NEON, the studio behind Parasite and Longlegs, has acquired the North American distribution rights for Exit 8. There isn't a set release date for the film in North America, but it is said to be coming out early next year. NEON has a fantastic track record when it comes to horror movies, so Exit 8 might be one of the better video game adaptations to come out. Exit 8 may not have been one of the games that translated well to film, but the fact that NEON is involved bodes well for the movie's quality. Here's hoping it can be better than the disappointing Until Dawn movie we got this year. This story was originally reported by GameDaily on Aug 6, 2025, where it first appeared. The trailer for Jordan Peele's football horror movie 'Him' is a blood bath

The trailer for Jordan Peele's football horror movie 'Him' is a blood bath originally appeared on The Sporting News Jordan Peele just unveiled the new trailer for his upcoming football movie "Him," and it's a bloodbath. Directed by Justin Tipping and produced by Peele, "Him" chronicles a young football player (Tyriq Withers) who is invited by an aging player (Marlon Wayans) to learn about the journey to achieving success by any means necessary. Also starring other noteworthy names like Julia Fox, Jim Jefferies, Akeem Hayes, Tierra Whack and more, this official trailer follows the teaser that was unveiled in April, which itself came just a couple of weeks after initial footage was shown during Universal's CinemaCon presentation. While at CinemaCon, Wayans jokingly compared "Him" to the 1990s classic "Rudy," which was shut down completely by Withers. "It's kinda like 'Rudy,' he told the crowd, which led to Withers quipping back, "It's nothing at all like 'Rudy.' As for the official trailer, the comments indicate major excitement. "Marlon Wayans being in this movie is exactly why I love comedic actors in serious roles. He totally CRUSHED IT in Requiem for a Dream," said one YouTube commenter. "Him" is set for Sept 19 release, which is just in time for the start of the 2025-2026 NFL season.
