Fadillah announces financial aid of RM110,000 for six media associations in Sarawak
The Sarawak Public Communications Unit's (Ukas) welfare and sports club and Kelab Belia Azam will receive RM25,000 each.
The Kuching Division Journalists Association, Northern Sarawak Journalists Association, Sibu Journalists Association and Institute of Rejang Journalists meanwhile will get RM15,000.
Fadillah made the announcement at a dinner in conjunction with the Sarawak media conference and state-level National Journalists' Day (Hawana) celebration here on Wednesday (July 2) night.
He called on the Sarawak media to continue highlighting stories that matter as the state charts its path towards becoming a high-income, green and technologically advanced economy by 2030.
These include stories of innovation in green and hydrogen technology, struggle and resilience amid the rising cost of living, and policy impact and public service.
"Let your platforms be spaces where the truth is heard, where dignity is preserved and where hope is never extinguished," he said.
Fadillah also said the Federal Government was committed to building a robust, ethical and resilient media ecosystem.
He said this commitment took a major step forward with the passing of the Malaysian Media Council Bill 2024, paving the way for self-regulation.
"(This is) a mark of maturity, trust and empowerment for the industry," he said.
Fadillah later presented the Sarawak Premier's special appreciation awards to 10 local media practitioners.
He also presented the Tokoh Khas award to former Sarawak TV3 coordinator Basri Mohamad.

"The proposed acquisition will enable the group to establish an additional source of recurring income and benefit from potential capital appreciation of the property in the foreseeable future," it said.

MACC nabs 'Datuk' for allegedly laundering millions of ringgit
PETALING JAYA: A company director with the title of Datuk has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly laundering millions of ringgit. The suspect, who is in his 50s, was arrested as part of a probe into money laundering activities amounting to around RM75mil. The director was arrested on Wednesday (July 2) after he presented himself at the MACC headquarters. He was then remanded on Thursday (July 3) for four days until July 6. "The suspect is believed to have committed the act in 2012 for the approval of a RM400mil loan for a fibre network development project. "Initial investigations believe that RM75mil was channeled to a company owned by the suspect," sources said. The arrest was a part of follow up actions under Ops Fibre. On June 30, the MACC had raided four locations in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur that belonged to the suspect. "The MACC has also frozen 12 bank accounts, both personal and corporate, worth around RM400,000," the source added. MACC Special Operations Division senior director Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin confirmed the arrest when contacted, adding that investigations were being conducted under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA) 2001.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: Sabah youth and sports minister Ellron Alfred Angin has denied a news report alleging that he accepted a bribe of RM530,000 in connection with the alleged mining scandal in Sabah. Ellron said the accusations in the report by Malaysiakini are 'baseless slander driven by immature political motives to tarnish my reputation and integrity as an elected representative'. 'I have always upheld the principles of integrity, accountability and clean governance in line with the Sabah state government's commitment to combat corruption,' he said in a Facebook post. 'I have instructed my legal team to take firm action against any party spreading these false allegations.' The Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) deputy president's denial follows a rebuttal from party president Jeffrey Kitingan, who was also implicated in the Malaysiakini report, along with four other Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leaders. On Monday, Sabah assistant industrial development and entrepreneurship minister Andi Suryady Bandy, and Sindumin assemblyman Dr Yusof Yacob were charged with receiving bribes related to mineral prospecting licence applications in the state. Yusof is also the chairman of Qhazanah Sabah Bhd, the state government's investment arm. Businessman Albert Wei was charged with bribing them. The alleged scandal was reported last year after a series of videos linking several Sabah assemblymen to it were leaked. The videos allegedly depicted discussions involving bribery and misconduct related to mineral exploration projects in the state.
