Shop supervisor fined for selling items with incorrect Qur'anic texts
Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin imposed the sentence on Saadiah Jaidin, 43, after the latter pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 14 (1) of the Printing of Qur'anic Texts Act 1986 (Amendment 2023), punishable under Section 14 (2) of the same Act.
The indictment provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or a jail term of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.
Saadiah admitted to offer for sale 22 frames, including frame watches and wordings of Muhammad and Allah, at a souvenir shop at a hypermall at Jalan Sulaman here on March 25.
The court heard that the complainant checked the shop and found those items displayed on the shelves.
All the items were seized and investigation revealed that the texts were incorrect and did not follow the correct writings set under the law.

Teen brothers charged with abduction, assault of lorry driver
SHAH ALAM: Two brothers were jointly charged at the magistrate's court today with two charges of abducting and voluntarily causing hurt to a lorry driver, allegedly over a monetary dispute last week. V. Kirtik Ram, 19, and V. Theshvinram, 18, pleaded not guilty after the two joint charges were read out to them before magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali. Kirtik, a lorry attendant, and Theshvinram, a p-hailing rider, both wearing face masks, stood side by side near the dock during proceedings and nodded to show they understood the charges. They claimed trial to the charges of kidnapping with the intent to secretly and wrongfully confine someone and causing injuries on Muhamad Azwar Danish Rosmadi, 21. The alleged incident occurred at 6.38pm in Jalan Persiaran Puchong Permai, Puchong, on July 22. The charges under Section 365 and Section 323 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code carry a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine, as well as a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Akhilah Rosmi urged the court to set bail of RM8,000 for each charge. Defence lawyer Noor Farazidah asked the court to set a minimal bail. She said the brothers are taking care of their 64-year-old grandmother and are supporting their younger siblings. "The accused are young offenders and voluntarily surrendered to the police. "Kirtik earns RM1,500 a month as a lorry attendant while Theshvinram, who suffers from shoulder injuries, has unstable income as a p-hailing rider. "They are innocent until proven guilty, and I ask for them to be given the lowest possible bail," she said. Redza set bail at RM7,000 with one surety for each accused and set Sept 8 for mention. Last Friday, their alleged accomplice, lorry driver, P. Nandakumaar, 32, was charged under Section 365 in connection with the same case before Shah Alam court magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaiman. He, however, was denied bail. Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat had said three suspects were arrested in Puchong and Hulu Selangor for their involvement in the abduction. Police seized clothes and mobile phones to facilitate further investigations. Wan Azlan said based on preliminary investigations, the motive of the abduction is unpaid debt. A 40-second video clip of the victim being forcibly shoved into the back of a lorry recorded by a road user has gone viral. The men were seen assaulting the victim as they pushed him into the lorry. Acting on a tip-off, a man was arrested and he was found with the victim.

41 unlicensed ‘KLCC photographers' fined by DBKL

(Facebook pics) PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has issued fines to 41 unlicensed street photographers operating in the KLCC area as part of an enforcement operation over the weekend. The operation, codenamed 'Op Lens', was carried out with support from the police, immigration, national registration department, and federal territories department, targeting unlicensed individuals offering paid photography services in public spaces. DBKL said public spaces were shared property and must be used ethically, in an orderly manner, and in compliance with regulations. 'Unauthorised photography services are not only illegal but also pose safety risks to visitors,' it said in a Facebook post. 'Some of these activities take place on roads or pedestrian walkways, endangering both photographers and clients, and disrupting public movement.' DBKL also warned that repeat offenders risked having their equipment confiscated. It said enforcement would continue to ensure that public areas remain orderly and safe. The crackdown follows mounting complaints on social media from visitors who said they were misled or harassed by self-styled 'photographers' offering low-cost services that escalated into disputes. Contractor pleads not guilty to RM50k false document charges
ALOR SETAR: A contractor has denied allegations of using falsified documents to claim RM50,000 for maintenance work eight years ago. Fakhruziyahdy Shaari, 53, entered a not-guilty plea in the Sessions Court today over an alternative charge linked to forged documents. The case involves claims for the upkeep of 16 CCTV cameras at the Community Rehabilitation Centre, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Camp. The alleged offence occurred on November 20, 2017, at Markas Stesen Staf, Kem Lapangan Terbang Sungai Petani. The charge falls under Section 471 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison, a fine, or both. Judge set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and scheduled the next mention for August 19.
