Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh ranks among the top three states in capital expenditure growth in the first quarter of 2025–26, clocking a 41 per cent jump over last year. According to a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, Gujarat led with 65 per cent growth, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 42 per cent. Sixteen states posted year-on-year gains in Q1 capex. Synopsis The central government is aggressively pursuing the complete digitisation of land records across India by December, excluding the north-eastern states and Ladakh, to pave the way for future land reforms. With significant progress already made, including the digitisation of nearly all available land records and cadastral maps, this initiative aims to spur economic growth and improve transparency. Land right records digitisation (Image for representation) The central government is aiming for a 100% digitisation of land right records by December across the country, barring north-eastern states and Ladakh, a senior official said. This would be a significant step in paving the way for future land reforms in the country to spur economic growth, he added. So far, 372.12 million, or 99.8%, of available land records, have been digitised, according to the latest land resources department data. Similarly, 97.3% of cadastral maps have been digitised. As many as 89.7% of revenue courts and all the sub-registrar offices across the country have been computerised. The Centre is in regular talks with states to remove any remaining hurdles in the digitisation efforts, the official are not available in most parts of the north-eastern states due to the community ownership of land. Ladakh started the digitisation of land records a couple of years ago and will need some more time to wrap up the exercise, the official reforms are among the most critical measures that the government is planning to initiate to bolster the market and drive up economic expansion over the medium-to-long term amid tariff and other global headwinds. Senior finance ministry officials have already stated that land reforms would be undertaken without snatching away ownership from people. No plans to declare cow national animal: Centre

The Centre has no plans to enact any law declaring cows as the national animal, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying S P Singh Baghel told Parliament on Tuesday. The minister said the central government has been implementing the Rashtriya Gokul Mission since December 2014 to support and strengthen initiatives undertaken by states and Union Territories for the promotion, protection, and rearing of cows. On milk production, Baghel informed the House that cow milk contributed 53.12 per cent of the country's total milk production of 239.30 million tonnes in 2024, while buffalo milk accounted for 43.62 per cent.
