Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's Abdul Halim Mohammad and Brenda Anellia Larry had a successful outing at the Internationale Deutsche Meisterschaften Para Swimming 2025 held in Berlin, Germany over the weekend. Abdul Halim succeeded in setting two Asian records in the SB8 category as well as winning a bronze medal. He recorded a time of 32.91 seconds (s) in the men's 50-metre (m) breaststroke to rewrite his own record of 34.72s set at the World Series 1 in Melbourne, Australia on February 15 this year, while the bronze came in the men's 50m freestyle with a record time of 27.18s achieved in the final. Brenda on the other hand, managed to set two personal best times of 1:06.64s in the S4 women's 50m breaststroke and 1:00.76s in the 50m freestyle. She also met the minimum entry time in the 50m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke to qualify for the Toyota World Para Swimming Championship in Singapore this September. As a result she will be taking part in a total of five events following earlier qualification in the 150m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke, while Abd Halim confirmed his slots in the 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke. Coach Eva Wong, who accompanied them to the meet, was pleased with their performance and achievement. 'Brenda has improved a lot since she finished her STPM. I am very happy to see their commitment and hard work. 'I am also looking forward to their future performance and hope they can live up to their potential as we prepare for the 2028 Summer Paralympics in Los Angeles,' she said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, shuttler Mohd Amin Burhanuddin captured the SL4 men's singles title at the Asian Para Championships in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand at the weekend. The 32-year-old, who hails from Labuan, defeated India's Surya Kant Yadav 23-21, 21-15 in the final to take home the gold medal. Pampang Masters champs for sixth time in a row

Kota Kinabalu: Pampang Masters Penampang won their sixth overall title in a row at the 13th Sabah Masters Athletics Open Championship (Samoc) 2025 held at Likas Stadium recently. The team represented by 115 athletes dominated the two-day event with a total haul of 75 golds, 41 silvers and 30 bronzes to top the medal tally. Advertisement Second place went to Kinabalu Knights Masters with 40 golds, 12 silvers, 14 bronzes and in third place was Papar Masters with 29 golds, 33 silvers and 23 bronzes. Two Pampang Masters athletes Yong Oi Mi (female 55-59) and Abdul Rashid @ Atus Matajam (male 70-74) were also named best athletes in their respective aged category. Yong rewrote three championship records to win the 800m, 1,500m and 3,000m events, while Abdul Rashid set two records to capture the 1,500m and 5,000m walk titles as well as taking home two silvers in the 400m and 800m. The other best athletes on the list were Muhd Afiq Fillery Abdullah (independent M35-39); Tommy Dois Sibin (independent M40-44); Robert Kurus (Mimpaagat Masters M45-49); Jori Lagimin (PDRM M50-54); Mohd Salehen Mohd Noor (Selupoh Masters Athletics M55-59); Joney Baragang (Tenom Masters M60-64); Charlie Lee (KK Masters M65-69); James Lee Fook Min (independent M75-79); Ariffin Abdullah (Atlet Veteran Daerah Tutong Brunei M80-84); Nur Idayu Farhani Nakaran Abdullah (KK Masters F35-39); Angeline Jumpo (Tuaran Masters F40-44); Tammy Chew Tze Vui (KK Masters F45-49); Tiffany Soh (Selangor Masters F50-54); Su Chong Yeong (Papar Masters F60-64); Vironica Elau (Papar Masters F65-69); Turimah Winnie Jainul (Papar Masters F70-74); Kam Ah Boay (Melaka Masters F75-79) and Sri Hati Warjadi (Indonesia F 80-84). Fabio claims world record for most games

The 44-year-old on Saturday equalled the landmark held by former England stopper Peter Shilton and Fabio has now gone one better following a 2-0 win over Colombia's America de Cali at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro. Advertisement Fluminense and Brazilian media say Fabio now stands alone in football history, although neither Fifa nor regional body Conmebol has declared it a record. 'Sometimes we don't realise the importance of such a significant achievement as breaking this record, which has stood for many years,' Fabio, who has spent his entire career in Brazil, said following his clean sheet in the Copa Sudamericana last 16 second leg. The home fans chanted, 'Fabio is the best goalkeeper in Brazil,' and he received a commemorative plaque to mark the achievement. 'No one plays so many matches without a level of professionalism like his,' said Fluminense coach Renato Gaucho. 'He'll undoubtedly continue to play for a long time. It will be difficult for another player to surpass his record.' Fabio won the Copa Libertadores with Fluminense in 2023 and was part of the side that reached the semi-finals of the Club World Cup in the United States this summer. Speedy Tigers fitness at 80 percent for Asia Cup 2025
THE national hockey squad's fitness level stands at 80 percent ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup in Bihar, India. Head coach Sarjit Singh confirmed the team's condition during a squad announcement press conference. He stated that fitness improvements followed almost seven weeks of intensive training at the National Sports Institute. Sarjit Singh explained, 'I mean fitness we have done with the NSI routine.' He added, 'The chamber run (drill for explosive bursts) was good for about six to seven weeks.' The coach acknowledged, 'So we are prepared.' He noted, 'But other teams also are well prepared too.' Sarjit Singh observed, 'As we know South Korea, China and Japan have fitness levels that are really different.' He expressed confidence by stating, 'But we are getting there.' The coach revealed, '(This is) Because after the Nations Cup (in June), we had a few injuries.' He explained, 'So we need to recover from that as well.' Sarjit Singh concluded, 'Hence, we are moving slowly in the right direction.' Malaysia finds itself in Group B alongside South Korea, Bangladesh and Taiwan. The national squad will depart for India this Friday according to the coach. They will play two friendly matches against the host country and China. These matches will serve as preparation before their tournament campaign begins. The Speedy Tigers finished as runners-up in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
