Vincent D'Onofrio teases ‘Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 is ‘even more complex and more dangerous'
'Our jobs as actors are to service the story,' D'Onofrio tells Gold Derby during a brief break from filming Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. 'It's my job to match the tone of whatever they're doing, because otherwise it'll look odd. So each time I played him, we got closer to the darker aspect, which I think really suits him — like, Echo got a little more gritty [than Hawkeye]. And so then we were going to do a show that was even less dark, but we realized early on that this wasn't working, that it had to be more like the original show.'

D'Onofrio continues, 'so about six episodes in of the first season, we stopped and rethought things, and so now we're doing the show that we always wanted to do. We kept the idea that it was a shared show with two leads, which is different than the Netflix show, but I think it's interesting.'
D'Onofrio is right that both Fisk and Murdock each feel like protagonists of their own story in Daredevil: Born Again, and one of the show's most interesting elements is that they hardly ever interact. Cox and D'Onofrio only shared the screen a couple times in Season 1, and each time they did (such as their Heat-worthy diner conversation in the premiere episode, or the climactic moment when Murdock unexpectedly took a bullet for Fisk) there were explosive consequences.
According to D'Onofrio, viewers should expect that trend to continue into Season 2.
Disney/Marvel
'We're sticking to the plan where the more you put these guys together, the less interesting it is,' D'Onofrio says, echoing what Cox has also told us. 'But there are a couple of, to say the least, very intense moments between the two of them in the second season.'
D'Onofrio continues, 'It's sparse, but it's intense as hell. And there's a lot for fans to look forward to in the second season because it's, how can I put this? What we're doing in the second season, when we pair up Daredevil and Fisk in scenes, is even more complex and more dangerous than they've seen before. Some of the scenes that we're having in the second season, there's been nothing like them before.'
Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again ended with both Murdock and Fisk reclaiming their roles (and signature costumes) as Daredevil and Kingpin, despite what they told each other in that diner. They've each got supporters, in the form of Daredevil's ragtag group of righteous prosecutors, fugitive vigilantes, and fearless reporters lining up against Mayor Fisk's anti-vigilante task force. This is a change from the original Daredevil series, which reset its plotlines every season.
Though D'Onofrio is wary about letting spoilers out of the bag too soon, he confirms that Season 2 will build from there.
'We pick up where we left off, and things are just getting increasingly intense,' D'Onofrio says. 'At the end of the first season, he's declared martial law, and that doesn't go away. That gets even more intense, and there's a feeling of a resistance being formed with Charlie's side of the show. Aspects of that continue through the second season in very intense ways. So I really can't say much more than that, but the story continues to move forward.'
The prospect of a supervillain like Kingpin successfully becoming mayor of New York City is frankly believable at a time when Donald Trump can get re-elected president after being impeached twice and Eric Adams, the real-life mayor of New York, can retain his office after being indicted by the FBI. But Fisk's power doesn't just come from his office. Why do the violent cops on his task force follow him so loyally?
'It's very clear that it's harder to be good than it is to be bad, and that makes us who we are as people,' D'Onofrio says. 'Are we willing to struggle to keep our morality? I think a lot of us are, but unfortunately, there are people that don't want to work so hard. They just want what they want, and they don't want to work for it. They just want to steal it. So I think that's what's happening. I think that his henchmen on the task force are following suit. Fisk wants to stretch his reach and they want to follow because it's easy.'
But if the characters want things the easy way, the actors don't. After the creative reboot on Daredevil: Born Again got everyone in the cast and crew on the same page, they've all gone full steam ahead.
'It is a very hard show to do because you've got two very interesting main characters that live in the light and in the dark, and that's a tough script to write,' D'Onofrio says. 'So we're doing everything we need to do to struggle through them, get them right, and keep trying to do the best we can do. We're all working our butts off, the whole crew and all the actors.'
D'Onofrio continues, 'We're also super lucky. We have such an amazing cast of supporting actors. I've made a career out of being a supporting actor, and it's so nice to see these young people who are supporting in our cast be such good actors and really brave and trying to do all kinds of things to make our stories more interesting. It just seems to be gelling out really well. It's quite a crew.'
Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again is streaming now on Disney+.

Hulk Hogan to be cremated, memorial service plans revealed
Memorial plans have been set for Hulk Hogan a week after the legendary wrestler died at age 71. Hogan will be laid to rest in a memorial service on Aug. 5, set to take place at a church in Tampa, Florida, a source told Us Weekly. Documents obtained by the outlet on Thursday also revealed that Hogan's body will be cremated. The Pinellas County Forensic Science Center in Largo, Florida, approved the cremation on Wednesday. Hogan's death was confirmed on Thursday to be the result of an acute myocardial infarction, more commonly known as a heart attack. His manner of death was listed as natural. Although few other details were provided, official records cited by Us Weekly said the wrestling star also had a history of leukemia CLL, a type of cancer that usually impacts older adults and affects white blood cells called lymphocytes. It's unclear when Hogan was diagnosed with CLL or if he was battling the cancer in the days before his death. At the time of his passing, the World Wrestling Federation Hall of Famer was reportedly in the midst of filming a Netflix documentary about his life and career. Sources associated with the doc told CNN the previously unannounced project has been in the works since 2024. Producers reportedly culled more than 20 hours of unseen sit-down interviews with Hogan, in addition to 30 hours of scenes already shot. According to an insider, viewers are promised to 'see a side of (Hogan) they haven't seen before.' The plan is still to complete the film as production remains ongoing, though certain portions will have to be reworked, sources said. A release date has not yet been set.

'Happy Gilmore 2' Just Broke Netflix Records
Happy Gilmore 2landed onNetflixlast Friday, and in just three days racked up 46.7 million streams. It's the biggest U.S. opening weekend in Netflix history. The sequel had all the makings of a perfect storm. Golf is having a cultural reawakening, intersecting more than ever with recognizable names in entertainment, sports and fashion. The original Happy Gilmore is already a cult classic, cementingAdam Sandler's rise in comedy and delivering one of cinema's most memorable golf scenes (Bob Barker, anyone?). But the sequel went bigger, built almost entirely around cameos from figures orbiting golf culture plus some of the game's biggest names:Bad Bunny,Travis Kelce,Scottie Scheffler,Nelly Korda, Jack Nicklaus and Fred Couples come to mind. The marketing push matched the scale, with brands like U.S. Bank, Callaway and Subway jumping in on the hype, while Netflix fostered a sense of urgency with a limited streaming window from July 25–31. Whether the movie leaned too hard into campiness or cameo culture is up for debate, but the numbers speak for themselves. A golf franchise, one that sat dormant for nearly 30 years, just became Netflix's most-watched opening weekend ever. That alone is a cultural milestone worth noting.

l Love The Parent Trap Reunion In Freakier Friday, So Of Course I Had To Ask Lindsay Lohan How It Came Together
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Spoilers ahead for Freakier Friday. The Freakier Friday release of course has Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reuniting on the big screen as mother and daughter over 20 years later for another hilarious body swap comedy. But, did you know that within the movie Lohan also gets to work with one of her The Parent Trap co-stars? When the latest trailer for the sequel dropped last month, eagle-eyed fans noticed Elaine Hendrix briefly makes an appearance, and I had know how they made it happen. I Asked Lindsay Lohan How Freakier Friday's Parent Trap Reunion Came Together Elaine Hendrix played the twins' stepmother-to-be, Meredith Blake, in Lohan's first movie in 1998. The camping trip scene where Hallie and Annie raise hell on Meredith lives rent free in the heads of many Disney kids, so how lovely is it that Freakier Friday has a little nod to another one of Lohan's movies? Here's what Lohan told me about how Hendrix was cast in the movie: [Director] Nisha Ganatra is friends with her. I'm still friends with Elaine. But, it was kind of just on a whim we were like, 'Should Elaine do this?' And we're like, yes. Why not? And, it was a great day. We had so much fun. I love Elaine. It just kind of came about randomly. Lindsay Lohan was twelve years old when she played dual roles of Annie and Hallie (which was honestly Oscar-worthy given I and many people thought Lohan really was a twin when it came out). As the actress shared during our interview, the Freakier Friday director is friends with Hendrix, and the decision was made sort of on a 'whim'. When I asked Lohan if she's stayed in contact with Hendrix over the years, she said this: So we just actually were talking yesterday, so it's funny that you brought her up. A friend of hers is doing a production of something having to do with the Parent Trap in New York they're doing… I love Elaine. Lohan is talking about an off-Broadway The Parent Trap musical parody called Ginger Twinsies that is currently playing at the Orpheum Theatre from director Kevin Zak. Per an Instagram post from last month, Elaine Hendrix actually joined the producing team of the show. Disney+: from $9.99 a month w/ ad-supported planYou can watch both The Parent Trap and the original Freaky Friday before Freakier Friday's theatrical release with a Disney+ subscription. Plans start at $9.99 a month for its new ad-supported plan. Go ad-free and pay $15.99 a month or save 16% and pre-pay $159.99 for a Deal Where To Look For Elaine Hendrix In Freakier Friday I'm absolutely obsessed with the fact that Lindsay Lohan and Elaine Hendrix still keep in touch, and talk about The Parent Trap-related things, but I bet you're wondering where to find the reunion in Freakier Friday, right? I've seen the movie, and while I won't give the details away, I can direct you to a scene that has a lot of fashion in it as teased in the trailers. You won't miss her! Along with Hendrix showing up in Freakier Friday, she was also seen at the premiere with Lohan and another The Parent Trap co-star, Lisa Ann Walter. Check them out: All this Lindsay Lohan nostalgia just makes my heart happy! You can see Freakier Friday when it hits theaters on August 8.
