Here's Why People Are Raising Their Eyebrows Over Chris Pratt's Post About The Fatal Shooting Of His 'Parks And Recreation' Costar Jonathan Joss
Earlier this week, authorities confirmed that actor Jonathan Joss had died after being shot during an altercation with a former neighbor. He was 59.
Jonathan's husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, claimed in a social media statement that the actor was killed in an anti-gay, targeted attack. He wrote, 'My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.'
'Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic,' Tristan alleged. 'When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw. While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.'
While tributes have poured in for the King of the Hill voice actor, his former Parks and Recreation costar Chris Pratt shared some words of his own this week.

Jonathan famously played Chief Ken Hotate on the fan-favorite sitcom, while Chris starred as Andy Dwyer.
In an Instagram story that has since expired, Chris shared a screenshot of a news headline about Jonathan's killing and wrote, 'Damn. RIP Jonathan. Always such a kind dude. He played Ken Hotate in Parks and was also in Mag 7. Sad to see. Prayers up. Hug your loved ones.'

Reacting to Chris's tribute, several internet users admitted that they found his wording 'really weird' and 'poorly written.'
'This is a really weird tribute in response to his death,' one person said. 'This is such a poorly written statement. I know that Pratt likely wasn't close with Jonathan, nor is he expected to be -- but no statement is honestly better than this. It sounds so callous,' someone else agreed.
'Honestly just using full sentences would have made this sound more sincere even if they weren't close. Minimal effort. Also wth does 'prayers up' even mean,' one user wrote, while another echoed, 'He couldn't even be bothered with a full sentence, how classy.'
'It's so terse and weirdly written. Like, read it aloud. It's robotic,' someone said, while another wrote, 'This is so dismissive that it feels disrespectful. He should've said nothing tbh.'
One more person added, 'It might have been better to say nothing at all Chris. This death is so tragic and upsetting and Johnathan deserved a better tribute then 'damn. RIP.''
Some users took issue with the fact that Chris made no mention of the nature of Jonathan's murder, comparing his statement to a moving statement shared by actor Cynthia Nixon.
'Was devastated to learn of the killing last night of the wonderfully talented actor and musician Jonathan Joss, who my family and I enjoyed so much in Parks and Recreation. He and his husband had been repeatedly harassed and worse by homophobic neighbors who recently burned their house to the ground. The men were collecting mail at their old address when a former neighbor came at them shouting homophobic hate and shot Jonathan to death,' Cynthia wrote. 'His husband says he would also have been shot had Jonathan not pushed him out of the way. The San Antonio police force is saying there is 'no evidence' that this was a hate crime. We will not let this stand.'

Honolulu police investigate alleged child abuse after viral video
Honolulu police said they have opened an investigation into a case of alleged child abuse after a video went viral on social media. On Thursday evening, a witness scrolling through Instagram saw a post of a woman allegedly assaulting a girl. The witness was able to identify the woman and child and called 911. The Honolulu Police Department said today that officers have identified a 34-year-old woman as the child's mother, and taken her two children – an 11-year-old, autistic girl and a 3-year-old boy—into police custody and transferred them to Child Welfare Services. The viral post, shared on @hhnewz, asked, 'What would you do in this situation if you saw this ??' as a woman seated in a car at Kapolei Commons appears to yank the child by her hair so that she falls onto her knees on the pavement in a parking lot, in front of an open car door. HPD's strategic enforcement detail located the mother, along with the child and her brother, at about 10 a.m. today in the Kapolei area. Police said the Honolulu Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, Domestic Violence Section, have been notified, and are working to pursue charges against the mother. No arrests have been made, pending the ongoing investigation. 'The Honolulu Police Department takes abuse allegations seriously and urges the public to report incidents by calling 911 or visiting any police station, open 24 /7, ' HPD officials said in a social media post. Katie Gaudreau, Sister of Johnny and Matthew, Shares Engagement Photos Ahead of Summer Wedding
Katie Gaudreau, the younger sister of the late Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, is a glowing bride-to-be as she prepares to walk down the aisle next month. In exclusive photos shared with Us Weekly, Katie, 26, and her fiancé, Devin Joyce, are all smiles ahead of their July 11 wedding in Philadelphia. Katie and Devin were forced to reschedule the original date of August 2024 after Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, were struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver while riding their bicycles the night before the wedding. Johnny and Matthew won't be far from their sister on her big day, which is being planned by Kyle Michelle Weddings. In September 2024, Katie revealed she had etched 'J+M' into her silver wedding band, which is front and center in some of the engagement photos. Katie Gaudreau Posts Childhood Photos With Johnny, Matthew, Sister Kristen: 'Forever Us Four' 'Forever with me now,' Katie wrote via her Instagram Story at the time. Aimee Beam Brides styled Katie's hair for the photoshoot, and Kristyn Kennedy did her makeup. Afrik Armando took the pictures. Johnny and Matthew were also survived by their parents, Guy and Jane, and their older sister Kristen. Johnny was married to his wife, Meredith, and the couple shared three children: daughter Noa, 2, and sons Johnny, 15 months, and Carter, who was born in April, seven months after Johnny's death. Matthew was married to his wife, Madeline, who gave birth to the couple's first baby, son Tripp, in December 2024, four months after Matthew's death. Devin and Katie celebrated their ninth anniversary of dating in March, which Katie marked with a post via social media. 'I couldn't be more grateful to have you by my side,' she wrote. 'This past year has tested us in ways we never could have imagined, but our love has always come out stronger. You've shown up in ways that mean more than I can put into words, and I know I wouldn't have gotten through it without you.' Katie continued, 'Since high school I've been waiting for the day I get to call you my husband….even though I call you my husband now I can't wait for July 11th to officially be your wife. No matter what life throws our way, I'll always be up for singing off-key and dancing terribly with you — whether it's in a bar or our little kitchen — forever and more.' Shortly after Johnny and Matthew were killed, Katie said her brothers were 'so excited for us to get married.' Katie Gaudreau Shows Off Save the Date — and Huge Engagement Ring — For Rescheduled Wedding 'When the day comes, they are going to be dancing and celebrating more than anyone,' she shared via her Instagram Story. Last month, Katie said she was 'feeling every emotion possible' at a meeting to discuss final details about the wedding. 'Sadness, exhaustion, nervousness, guilt, stress, love, and happiness,' she shared via Instagram. 'For months they have been working so hard behind the scenes making sure everything is running smoothly and that my family and I don't have to worry about any of the big decisions.' Katie added, 'I am so incredibly lucky to have you all in my corner and helping me through this process. I can't wait for you to all see the incredible job they have done to help make this day special.'
