By now, one would think Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham would have learned her lesson about public criticism of WNBA officials.
Twice already this season Cunningham has been fined by the league for disparaging remarks against its refs.
The first incident happened roughly two weeks ago when she posted a TikTok video on July 18 where she was lip-synching Sabrina Carpenter's song "Manchild," specifically mouthing the words "Stupid, or is it, slow? Or maybe, useless?" with the caption "@ some refs" across the screen.
That incident cost her $500.

The second time came a little over a week ago when she, again, ripped on the refs for the inconsistency of their foul calls on the debut episode of her "Show Me Something" podcast, which she co-hosts with "Summer House" star West Wilson, which led to a $1,500 fine.

Sophie Cunningham #8 of the Indiana Fever reacts to a three-point shot ahead of Satou Sabally #0 of the Phoenix Mercury during the second half of the WNBA game at PHX Arena on August 07, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona. The Mercury defeated the Fever 95-60. More"I'm not saying that your job is easy, but when it is a simple call right in front of your face multiple times, what are you doing?" Cunningham asked. "They're just so inconsistent, like that's one thing. If you're on the other team, and you're going to be fouling the [expletive] out of me, cool. But let me do it to you.
"I think players across the league, and new fans across the country are like, what is going on with the refs? And I'm like, 'I don't know.' And you fining me $500 is not going to do [expletive]."

And now Cunningham is back on her podcast, yet again, putting WNBA officials on blast for what she perceived as favoritism of Dallas Stars rookie star Paige Bueckers in Tuesday's 81-80 win over the Fever.
Sophie Cunningham RIPS WNBA REFS over Paige Bueckers special whistle😬
'Those refs were given her every freaking whistle last night'
'To get the treatment she got last night was crazy' pic.twitter.com/QxTQ8q3a2G — Jmac| Ball Up 🏀| WNBA & NBA | (@Gameis_gameLFG) August 13, 2025
"I love Paige to death — do not get me wrong, I think she's a hell of a player and like I would love to play with her one day — but those refs were giving her every [expletive] whistle last night," Cunningham said.

"Like, you literally couldn't touch her, and that [expletive] is so annoying to me. And if you're going to do that, give it to our guards. We know she's a good rookie and she's going to get some whistles, but like to get the treatment she got last night, was crazy."
While it's not guaranteed that Cunningham will be fined a third time, it's a safe bet considering how strict the WNBA is with its crackdown on being critical of its officials.
Interestingly enough, Bueckers only attempted four free throws in Tuesday's contest (she made all four), and she finished with 16 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and two steals in 35 minutes.

Paige Bueckers responds to Sophie Cunningham's officiating criticisms
Paige Bueckers essentially responded to criticism from fellow WNBA star Sophie Cunningham with a shrug. Following the Indiana Fever's one-point loss to Bueckers and the Dallas Wings earlier this week, Cunningham publicly lamented what she believed were favorable calls for the former UConn point guard. 4 Paige Bueckers guarded by Sophie Cunningham on Aug. 1. AP Bueckers scored 16 points but only attempted four free throws in the win. 'I love Paige to death, do not get me wrong. I think she's a hell of a player and would love to play with her one day, but those refs were giving her every whistle last night,' Cunningham said Wednesday on her 'Show Me Something' podcast. 'You literally couldn't touch her, couldn't touch her. That s–t is so annoying to me. 'And if you're going to do that, then give it to our guards. I just hate the inconsistency.' Asked for her response before Friday's 97-96 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks, Buckers told reporters, 'Everyone is entitled to their own unique personal opinion.' Napheesa Collier 'not likely' to play in Saturday's Lynx-Liberty matchup after upgrade to 'doubtful'
Napheesa Collier is "not likely" to play in Saturday's matchup between the Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty, head coach Cheryl Reeve told reporters, via the New York Post's Madeline Kenney. Collier's injury status was upgraded from "out" to "doubtful," the team announced Friday which led to speculation that she could possibly play. The Lynx star has missed the team's past three games with a sprained right ankle. The injury was expected to sidelined her for at least two weeks, so the change in her status follows that timeline. Being upgraded to doubtful meant she would probably still miss Saturday's game. Nonetheless, it's an encouraging sign for her return. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] At 27-6, the Lynx have the WNBA's best record, six games ahead of the Atlanta Dream and 6.5 in front of the Liberty. Minnesota has already clinched a playoff spot. Prior to her injury, Collier was building a strong case to win WNBA MVP. She's the league's leading scorer, averaging 23.5 points per game in addition to 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks. Last season, she finished as runner-up in MVP voting to the Las Vegas Aces' A'ja Wilson while winning Defensive Player of the Year honors. While no timetable for Collier's return has been announced, Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve told reporters that the star forward is "progressing well" and expected to return before the end of the regular season. Including Saturday's contest, the Lynx have 12 games remaining on their regular-season schedule. Saturday's game between the Lynx and Liberty is the second of three consecutive matchups between the two teams, alternating between New York and Minnesota in a curious quirk of the WNBA schedule. The Lynx won the first meeting on July 30, 100-93, with Collier scoring 30 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Sabrina Ionescu led all scorers with 31 points for the Liberty. The Lynx and Liberty played for the WNBA championship last season, with New York winning the Finals in five games. The two teams could be on the path to a rematch.

Ravens vs. Cowboys: 5 Under-the-radar players to watch in Week 2 of preseason
With key starters sitting out, it'll be another opportunity for select veterans and rookies to carve out a role on a loaded roster with very few holes or opportunities. The Ravens are in Dallas for an intriguing preseason matchup against the popular Cowboys on Saturday night. The Ravens and Cowboys have only faced each other once in the preseason before Saturday's matchup. Their second scheduled preseason game in 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic. With key starters sitting out, it'll be another opportunity for select veterans and rookies to carve out a role on a loaded roster with very few holes or opportunities. With kickoff fast approaching, we're looking at five under-the-radar players to watch. DB Reuben Lowery Ravens' undrafted free agent cornerback Reuben Lowery has caught the attention of head coach John Harbaugh, and the versatile defensive back is inching towards a coveted roster spot in the deep Baltimore secondary. Lowery has been making plays that could push a key starter or contributors onto the roster bubble at Ravens training camp. LB Jay Higgins Undrafted inside linebacker Jay Higgins IV helped his bid to make the roster in the preseason opener with an interception, three tackles, and two pass breakups. Higgins played plenty of special teams at Iowa, which helps his chances. I'm interested to see what he does against Dallas. RB Rasheen Ali Baltimore didn't draft a running back and only has four players on the roster at the position. Henry is an All-Pro, Justice Hill is a solid No. 2 running back, and Keaton Mitchell provides a home run threat. Ali needs a strong preseason to warrant the Ravens carrying four running backs. WR Malik Cunningham Baltimore has ten wide receivers on the roster after selecting Colorado's LaJohntay Wester in Round 6. Cunningham is the only player in the position who is not a natural wide receiver but offers special-teams abilities. Cunningham needs an intense training camp to warrant a roster spot over Dayton Wade, Anthony Miller, and Keith Kirkwood. DT-C.J. Okoye Okoye, a Nigerian native, first joined the Chargers as part of the International Player Pathway Program. He had a sack in his first organized football game in the preseason. He'll compete in a position group that includes Nnamdi Madubuike, Travis Jones, John Jenkins, and Jayson Jones. OL Corey Bullock Bullock was an honorable mention All-Big Ten after starting 11 games for the Terrapins in 2023. According to Pro Football Focus, Bullock was ranked as the second-highest-rated pass-blocking guard in the Big Ten conference, with a 79.6 grade via the Terrapins' official website. After a season spent on the Ravens' practice squad, he'll look to carve out a backup role.
