James Norton says reaction to ‘gross' leaked photos from A Little Life was ‘gratifying'
James Norton says he felt 'gratified' by the backlash to the leaked photos that showed him during nude scenes in the stage adaptation of Hanya Yanagihara's controversial novel A Little Life. The British actor, 40, starred in the lead role as Jude, a character who suffers unrelenting abuse and misfortune both as a child and in adulthood. Critics were divided over the West End production – which ran for three hours and 40 minutes – with some praising Norton's 'dedicated performance' and others calling the play 'deeply unsettling' due to its prolonged depictions of trauma. Following the show's opening at the Richmond Theatre in London in March 2023, illicit photos of the actor during his nude scenes were published by the Daily Mail in print and online. Following an immediate and fierce backlash, the publication removed the images as it was pointed out that the theatre had placed stickers over phone cameras and shared materials telling audience members that filming and photography was prohibited. 'Violated is probably too strong [a word],' Norton told The Guardian when asked how he felt about the leaks. 'My strongest memory is that it was just a bit sad, a bit gross, this idea that it would be framed in a titillating way when the subject matter was so clearly vicious and upsetting. But I think the reaction, generally, was that it was misjudged, which was gratifying.' The Happy Valley actor is next starring in new BBC historical drama King & Conqueror, about the battle between Harold Godwinson (Norton) and William, Duke of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) for the English crown. He is also starring in Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight's new Netflix drama House of Guinness, about the dynasty behind the Irish stout. In the same interview, he appeared to express some regret at speaking publicly about his split from former fiancée and fellow actor Imogen Poots during a panel at Glastonbury Festival in June. 'I lost the person,' he told the audience after Annie Mac asked him whether he had been through any big life changes, 'but I also lost the life I was about to lead, the kids we had named, all that kind of stuff.' 'If I'd known there was a journalist in the audience, I probably wouldn't have been so honest,' Norton said. Addressing speculation surrounding his current romantic life, which has linked him to stylist Flora Huddart and pop singer and actor Lily Allen, he remarked: 'Look, I'm a man in London going on occasional dates, meeting people, living my life, and it's kind of no one's business really.' King & Conqueror airs on BBC One and iPlayer from 24 August, while House of Guinness is scheduled for release on Netflix in September. Solve the daily Crossword

There are hopes that Ed Sheeran's new music video will provide a boost to Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk. Various locations around the west Suffolk town feature in the singer's video for his song 'A Little More', which was released on Thursday. Hengrave Hall is one of the sites which plays a prominent part, as well as All Saints Hotel in Fornham St Genevieve, Fitta Bodies Gym, the British Sugar factory and St Mary's Church. David Harris is hoping the music video can bring a boost to the area (Image: Newsquest) David Harris, of Hengrave Hall, praised Sheeran for how he helps to promote Suffolk to his millions of followers. "The platform that it gives to Bury is huge, and I think Ed Sheeran does a lot to promote Suffolk as a county," said Mr Harris. "We are very lucky to have a world superstar to have in Suffolk that does put so much back into the county. How many visitors will come to Bury that would not before?" Mr Harris believes it will make a "huge difference" for the amount of people that visit Suffolk. He praised his team for how they dealt with the filming, which took around one week, stating they "pull together to deliver the very best". Harry Potter star Rupert Grint plays a prominent role in the video, which racked up more than one million views in 24 hours. Screen Suffolk helped facilitate the filming around the town. A spokesperson for the company said: "As the official film office for the county, Screen Suffolk were delighted to facilitate filming across West Suffolk and in Ipswich. "It's so great to see Bury St Edmunds featured so recognisably in this brilliant video." Both Sheeran and Mr Grint were spotted at alongside each other earlier this year, as Ipswich Town lost 1-0 to Tottenham.

Chick-fil-A Makes Major Menu Change: When New Items Are Available
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Chick-fil-A is making a major menu update this fall, offering several new items starting August 18. The fall menu includes the fried chicken brand's first ever seasonal soda as well as a new sandwich and two new potato chips that will be sold in stores. Why It Matters Many fast food chains are releasing their fall menus this month amid heightened competition within the industry. While Krispy Kreme is launching the return of its Pumpkin Spice Original Glazed Doughnut and three other pumpkin spice menu items, Dairy Queen's fall menu will include the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard, the Caramel Toffee Cookie Blizzard and the Maple Cookie Shake. CraigWhat To Know Chick-fil-A's fall menu features the return of its Cherry Berry drink mixed with Sprite and other flavors: Cherry Berry & Sprite: A sparkling mix of crisp Sprite with delicious cherry, blueberry and cranberry natural flavors. Cherry Berry Lemonade: Classic Chick-fil-A Lemonade with a sweet, fruity remix featuring cherry, blueberry and cranberry natural flavors. Cherry Berry Frosted Lemonade: A creamy blend of Icedream dessert and classic Chick-fil-A Lemonade mixed with cherry, blueberry and cranberry natural flavors. Cherry Berry Sunjoy: A blend of Sweetened Iced Tea and Lemonade mixed with cherry, blueberry and cranberry natural flavors. Chick-fil-A fans will also likely be excited to try the new Pretzel Cheddar Club Sandwich after it succeeded in a test market round in Raleigh, North Carolina. The sandwich has a toasted, buttery pretzel bun, lettuce, sliced tomato, cheddar cheese, strips of applewood smoked bacon and a side of Creamy Dijon Mustard sauce. It is also available with your choice of original, spicy or grilled chicken. "Our Guests' demand for bold, fun beverages is only growing and Cherry Berry's return, now with a bubbly twist, brings something fresh and unexpected to our lineup," Allison Duncan, director of menu and packaging for Chick-fil-A, said in a news release. "The Pretzel Cheddar Club Sandwich offers the perfect complement: it's savory with layers of flavor that feel indulgent, yet distinctly Chick-fil-A." Also in the new fall lineup are two new potato chip flavors, available in a waffle cut that mimics Chick-fil-A's famous waffle fries: the Original Flavor Waffle Potato Chip and Chick-fil-A Sauce Flavored Waffle Potato Chip. The chips will be available in 7 ounce bags for purchase at retailers in the Atlantic and Southeast this fall. "The fast-food industry is doing its best rendition of limited time offerings by tapping into the human condition of FOMO," Kevin Thompson, the CEO of 9i Capital Group and the host of the 9innings podcast, told Newsweek. "Companies like Chick-fil-A are tapping into those offerings in hopes to boost retail sales in the fall as increase cost continue to hit margins." What People Are Saying Allison Duncan, director of menu and packaging for Chick-fil-A, said in a news release: "We are always looking for ways to surprise our Guests with new and unique menu offerings, and this year's fall lineup presents even more opportunities for Guests to customize and make them their own." Michael Ryan, a finance expert and the founder of told Newsweek: "Chick-fil-A isn't trying to innovate. They're trying to 'premium position' their way out of the value war." "Honestly, it's just classic menu psychology. They're bringing back the Cherry Berry drinks because they tested well & cost next to nothing to produce. The Pretzel Cheddar Club is just their regular sandwich on a fancier bun with bacon. But here's the brilliance: consumers will perceive pretzel buns as 'artisanal' even though they're mass-produced." Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor for the University of Tennessee at Martin, told Newsweek: "The introduction of a new Pretzel Cheddar Club sandwich and a collection of fruit-themed drinks for their fall menu could hint at the fast food juggernaut seeing some similar difficulty getting money-strapped customers to frequently come in to select locations and are banking on new menu offerings as a way of drumming up more business in the coming months." What Happens Next The fast-food industry will likely continue facing pricing pressures as food inputs surge. The average price of food in the United States rose by 3 percent year-over-year in June, up from an annual increase of 2.9 percent in May, according to the U.S. Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics. "Companies are looking to find ways to increase consumer appetite by introducing new limited time products that are seasonal as well as new combo meals to entice the consumer back," Thompson said. "Many have seen prices, especially at Chick-fil-A rise so much, consumers have throttled back spending."
