Horror film with trailer that 'gave viewers nightmares' hosts creepy livestream
Something strange and 'one-time-only' has arrived from the creators of a horror film dubbed 'nightmarish' just from its trailer.
Weapons, directed by Barbarian's Zach Cregger, is set to be released on August 8, and it already has horror fans chomping at the bit.
Very little is known about the film, with the release of its incredibly eerie first trailer giving little away apart from terrifying imagery that has seen it called 'the creepiest trailer in years.'
The mystery around the film deepened with the release of a sinister website, Maybrook News, teasing details about 17 local children who all left their homes and disappeared at once.
This evening, a creepy livestream took place in conjunction with the film, with viewers warned they might want to 'keep the lights on.'
An email sent to Bloody Disgusting read: 'On June 23, we invite you to visit MaybrookMissing.com for a one-time-only livestream that won't be explained, only experienced.'
'What begins as a cryptic broadcast may become something more. There are rumors of an early glimpse. Of footage. Of something that wasn't meant to be seen yet.
'We won't say much. In fact, we'll say less. But if you've been paying attention, you already know that we will have something special. Be ready. Be curious. And maybe keep the lights on.'
In the livestream, for those not brave enough to take it on, unsettling footage showing three unknown figures played on a loop, before the director showcased a new trailer for the upcoming scare-fest.
'I just want to say how very sorry I am…,' Justine Gandy – played by Julia Garner – tells devastated parents at a press conference, shown in the teaser.
'The truth is that I want an answer just as bad as all of you. I love those kids.'
While the parents, led by Josh Brolin, demand answers, a voiceover by a young girl teases that there are a lot of deaths on the way.
'This is a true story, it happened right here in my town,' she says.
A lot of people die in a lot of really weird ways in this story, but you're not going to find it in the news.'

The website itself is a goldmine for those excited to watch the film, with eerie clips of 'found footage' relating to the missing children from the film.
A message on the homepage reads: 'A chilling mystery has gripped the small town of Maybrook after 17 children voluntarily left their homes Wednesday morning. Authorities are baffled by the inexplicable disappearance, which has shaken the community to its core.
'Upon investigation, front door camera footage showed the children leaving their homes at 2:17am Wednesday morning without any signs of force. Since then, little information has surfaced, and the case continues to baffle investigators.
'In response, a school gathering was held, where growing unease among parents became clear. As the town struggles to understand what happened, officials continue to urge the public for any leads, while Maybrook is left waiting for answers.'
There is also a hyperlink over the text 'Underground Prison Found In Rental Home' which takes browsers to another story about 28-year-old Tess Marshall, who was found 'injured and disoriented' outside the 'Barberry Street property.' More Trending
It continues that police went to the property for a simple welfare check, but it soon became 'a large-scale crime scene' when a network of hidden tunnels was discovered beneath the home.
How this links to the missing children's case on the homepage remains to be seen, and it's all very reminiscent of last year's viral hit Longlegs, but fans have pointed out the image used next to the hyperlink is from Creggers' 2022 smash hit Barbarian.
It could mean the films are set in the same universe, and fans don't have long to find out how this mystery plays out.
Weapons is released in cinemas on August 8.

Bimini Bon-Boulash signed up to 'hardest show on TV' without seeing an episode
Bimini Bon-Boulash had never seen SAS: Who Dares Wins before signing up. They just knew it was dubbed 'the hardest show on television' — and that alone was enough to lure them in. Despite the show's infamous reputation, Bimini is impressively unfazed when shot at, punched in the face, or dropped from a great height into ice-cold waters. The drag artist — real name Tommy Hibbits — admited to Metro that even they've asked themselves while watching it back: 'Am I okay? Nothing seems to be bothering me that much, as if I need the extremities to focus and be calm.' However underneath the undaunted surface the star admits they approached the process with caution. Not because of the endurance it demanded, but because they were being thrown into an intense environment with hyper-masculine straight men like former Premier League footballer Troy Deeney, professional boxer Conor Benn, and Love Island heartbreaker Adam Collard. 'I knew people weren't gonna be homophobic, but I thought, 'Is it gonna be like high school again — hanging around with the straight lads, and everyone just taking the p**s out of each other all the time?'' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video But quickly, that didn't matter. They had to come together as a team, become friends — they were all each other had. Still, Bimini is clearly disappointed that there's a lot we don't see on-screen — presumably because Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins prefers to show its stars at their lowest. 'I had a conversation with Conor, Adam, Troy, myself and Lucy [Spraggan], and the men said they don't know how to express emotion without anger. They realised it's actually sadness — but they don't know how to be sad without being angry. That's all they've ever been taught: to 'man up.' We deconstructed it in a progressive way that would be really beautiful to see.' Instead, those moments of vulnerability are cut in favour of pure misery. In a recent episode, Bimini was gloved up and put in the ring with Traitors winner Harry Clarke — instructed to pull no punches. 'That was so out of my comfort zone,' they say. 'I don't like physical violence. I don't like the idea of war. So that challenge was what I was most worried about — which is interesting, because that was the one a lot of the other guys were most excited about.' But that wasn't even Bimini's lowest point. While they can't say too much before the episode airs, they warn: 'There's a moment coming soon where it definitely started to get to me.' While many stars who boldly sign up for this relentless mental and physical battering either drop out or get thrown out by furious DS leaders Mark 'Billy' Billingham, Jason Fox, Rudy Reyes, and Chris Oliver, Bimini proves that the LGBTQ+ community possesses a unique strength and determination that refuses to be broken. 'A lot of people are coming up to me and saying, 'You've been doing it with such poise,' they said. 'I guess it goes back to the resilience of being queer.' 'If you can accept yourself in a world that doesn't accept you, then you can jump off a cliff, you know? I just never had a voice in my head telling me I was going to give up.' Regardless of how often the LGBTQ+ community's grit is tested, it remains constantly underestimated — especially when it comes to physical strength. Bimini's been dancing their whole life, performing cartwheels down the aisles of Tesco, totally unapologetic even when bullied at school. 'I was told I didn't have the genitals I have because I can do the splits,' they tell me, with an eye roll. But anyone who's been to a Bimini show can attest to their athleticism, gasping as they backflip in 10-inch heels and bend their legs behind their head without barely breaking a sweat. One DS even told them they were 'wasted in drag,' as though they don't already channel the full force of their body on stage. 'I don't know why drag queens are underestimated, considering what we put our bodies through. I told one of the DS staff to wear a pair of 10-inch Pleasers for 12 and a half hours and then see who thinks they're hard. 'We take to anything like a duck to water. We throw ourselves into it. So I really enjoyed the fact there were so many physical tests — this was once-in-a-lifetime stuff.' The physical challenges were a breeze. The real challenge was the constant anticipation of being shouted at or summoned by the DS. 'I only had two showers,' they say, mortified. 'It was gross. But you're on edge the whole time — you don't know if they're going to shout at you, so no one dared take a shower.' Thankfully, they emerged from the process unscathed — unlike some of their co-stars. X Factor star Lucy Spraggan tore her vulva so badly she required reconstructive surgery after filming. More Trending 'That was crazy — she's got a designer vagina now,' they tease. Instead, Bimini left with a deeper sense of self and more conviction in the strengths they always knew were there. 'It cemented me to my core,' they say. 'I'm Lara Croft, and no one is going to tell me otherwise.' Panic as beloved Coronation Street resident is found collapsed in new video
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video There's panic for Coronation Street favourite Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) when she collapses at number 13 and requires urgent medical attention. When she began to suffer symptoms she originally attributed to the menopause, Debbie sought medical advice. After the doctor learned that Debbie had been suffering blackouts, chronic mood swings and increasing levels of forgetfulness, he diagnosed her with young-onset dementia and told her that the blackouts were probably due TIA's (mini strokes) and warned that they were likely to continue. Debbie, utterly rocked, resolved to keep her diagnosis secret, particularly from brother Kevin (Michael Le Vell) who was battling testicular cancer and long-term partner Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), who she broke up with, determined not to become a burden. Following further incidents, including passing out in front of her family, Debbie finally revealed the truth about her condition. As more and more people learned of her dementia, including Ronnie, he set out to reunite with his ex. Debbie put up a fight, but ultimately accepted that Ronnie wanted to support her, and the two reunited. They further solidified their love when Debbie proposed at the wedding of Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) and Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove). Upcoming episodes will see Debbie decide to let herself into Kevin's house to do a touch of cleaning while he and his family are away on holiday. Debbie is, however, unaware that Abi (Sally Carman-Duttine) has faked the loss of her passport in order to stay at home and continue her clandestine affair with her husbands brother, Carl (Jonathan Howard). More Trending In fact, when Debbie enters number 9, Carl is upstairs while Abi is at the shop, fetching drinks. Debbie begins to falter, speaking incoherently and eventually collapsing, Carl comes down to investigate, finding his sister in a bad way. As Abi returns home, she's relieved that Debbie didn't see him before her incident and shoos him away before calling an ambulance. Amanda Holden suffers blow as controversial Netflix show axed despite success
Despite a very successful first season, Amanda Holden's Netflix show has landed on the scrap heap. In April, Cheat: Unfinished Business arrived on the streaming platform, with Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda, 54, and Celebs Go Dating expert Paul Brunson, 50, as hosts. The format raised eyebrows before the first episode had even landed, as many were sceptical upon learning participants would be reunited with their cheating exes. Filmed in Majorca, Spain, eight former couples, who broke up because one was unfaithful, visited a luxury retreat to see if it was possible to work through their differences. Cheat proved extremely popular with streamers, finding itself in Netflix's top 10 most-watched shows in 22 countries, including the UK and the US. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. Alas, it seems those stats weren't enough to convince commissioners that a second season was viable. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A source told The Sun that the reality series won't be back, explaining: 'Despite Cheat being popular with audiences, Netflix has decided to pursue new show formats.' A Netflix spokesperson also confirmed: 'Cheat: Unfinished Business won't be returning.' However, this might not be the last we see of Amanda on the service. 'Bosses love Amanda and are in talks with her on three different show ideas, so it's likely fans will see a lot more of her on the platform in the future,' added the insider. 'Amanda is still very much one of the hardest-working women in showbiz and is booked and busy for the foreseeable future.' Indeed, there's no shortage of work for the TV personality, who co-hosts Heart FM's breakfast show each weekday morning, alongside Jamie Theakston. Listening figures for the show have soared in recent months, seeing Heart overtake BBC Radio 2 to become the biggest commercial breakfast show in the UK with 4.2million weekly listeners. On top of that, Amanda is due back for BGT auditions filming in October, as well as a fourth series of her renovation show with comedian Alan Carr, having been shooting in Greece this summer. And as if all of that isn't enough, Amanda's quiz show, The Inner Circle, launches on BBC One in October, with a cash prize on the line for players to take home after testing their general knowledge and strategic thinking. Relationships expert Paul has also seen a spike in popularity this year, thanks to his We Need To Talk podcast, which has featured celebrity guests such as Tulisa, Maura Higgins, Katie Price, and Cher Lloyd. Before Cheat launched this spring, the Washington-born star expressed his excitement to be working alongside Amanda so they could dive into 'all the grey areas of infidelity' together. 'To work with Amanda Holden has been a dream of mine, so with her on board, there was no way I could say no,' he praised. Amanda was also 100% in, having hailed Cheat as her 'dream' job, most likely making its cancellation all the more gutting. More Trending She told the Daily Mail: 'It is my dream job; if I could have manifested a job… this would have been it. It is the job I have wanted my whole life, and it's finally happening. 'A series about second chances and unfinished business. I can't wait, along with Paul, to meet and help these couples work out whether they can forgive and forget. I'm absolutely thrilled to be part of it.' Season 1 of Cheat: Unfinished Business is available to stream on Netflix. Got a story?
