Demolishing religious sites will invite divine wrath, increase disasters: Ex-SP MP ST Hasan
Reacting to the natural calamity that hit Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand last week, he also said that ecological imbalance caused by massive destruction of the environment has led to increased instances of such disasters.
Moradabad/Ballia (UP), Aug 10 (PTI) The Samajwadi Party's former MP S T Hasan courted controversy on Sunday after he claimed that demolishing places of worship 'out of arrogance' would anger the 'creator' and lead to an increase in natural disasters.
'We have angered Him (God) by running bulldozers over temples, mosques and dargahs, places where His name is taken and where He is worshipped. If we destroy such places in arrogance, his mercy will not be with us, and disasters will only increase,' he said.
The former MP stressed that all communities turn to their respective places of worship in times of distress. 'Hindus go to temples and pray to God to save them; Muslims go to mosques and beg Allah for mercy. Even the most difficult of problems get resolved and prayers are accepted,' he said.
Hasan added that tampering with such sacred spaces disturbs the spiritual balance. 'If we bulldoze the places where the creator's name is taken, then it is obvious that his blessings will not be with us,' he remarked.
The former Moradabad MP went on to say, 'We have destroyed the ecosystem by cutting trees indiscriminately. This ecological imbalance has resulted in an increase in natural disasters.' Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh's Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Transport Daya Shankar Singh on Sunday advised Hasan to show sympathy towards the families affected by the disaster in Uttarakhand and provide help.
'It is a natural disaster; there should be sympathy towards the affected families, on how to help them and share their grief. This is not the time for such political statements,' Singh told PTI in Ballia.
About Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav slamming the Election Commission, Singh said that they like the EC when they win, and accuse it of graft when they lose.
He countered the statement of the SP chief, terming the BJP a 'university of corruption', and said the public has rejected such leaders. PTI COR ABN NAV NSD NSD

Demolishing religious sites will invite divine wrath
Moradabad: Reacting on the natural disaster in Uttarakhand, former Samajwadi Party MP S T Hasan on Sunday cautioned that demolishing places of worship 'out of arrogance' would anger the 'creator' and lead to an increase in natural disasters. Talking to PTI Videos, he said India is a religious country where people of all faiths — Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians — believe that the events in their lives are determined by the Almighty. 'We have angered him (God) by running bulldozer over temples, mosques and dargahs — places where his name is taken and where he is worshipped. If we destroy such places in arrogance, his mercy will not be with us and disasters will only increase,' Hasan said. The former MP stressed that all communities turn to their respective places of worship in times of distress. 'Hindus go to temples and pray to God to save them. Muslims go to mosques and beg Allah for mercy. Even the most difficult problems get resolved and prayers are accepted,' he said. Hasan added that tampering with such sacred spaces disturbs the spiritual balance. 'If we bulldoze the places where the creator's name is taken — the one who created the entire universe — then it is obvious that his blessings will not remain with us,' he remarked. The former Moradabad MP also linked the worsening of natural calamities to environmental destruction. 'We have destroyed the ecosystem by cutting trees indiscriminately. This ecological imbalance has resulted in an increase in natural disasters,' he said.

Centres advertising budget up by 84% since 2020-21: TMC quotes official data
New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) Trinamool Congress on Monday flagged that there has been over 84 per cent increase in Union government's expenditure on advertisements between 2020-21 and 2024-25. The party also slammed the government for not furnishing this information in Parliament, and stating instead that the figures were available on the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) website. On August 8 in Rajya Sabha, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O'Brien had asked for details of the Union government's expenditure on advertisements and publicity campaigns in newspapers and television media in the last five years. In a written reply, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan said that the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) issues advertisements on behalf of various ministries and departments, and details of this expenditure were available on the CBC's website O'Brien slammed the government for not giving a reply. The TMC also collated and analysed the data from the website. 'This shaky Modi coalition has found another way to mock Parliament. Now, instead of giving answers directly during the Question Hour, they are directing the MPs to go visit websites. We went there and look what we found!" O'Brien told PTI. TMC's analysis of the data on the DAVP website shows that the government spent Rs 349.24 crore on advertisements in 2020-21, which went down to Rs 274.87 crore in 2021-22. In 2022-23, the government spent Rs 347.38 crore on advertisements, which increased to Rs 656.08 crore in the pre-election year 2023-24. In 2024-25, the expenditure was Rs 643.63 crore. 'Startling figures that show how the PM (Prime Minister) has become PRM (Public Relations Minister). That and not tabling answers in Parliament. New lows," O'Brien said. The total ad spent from 2020-21 till August 2025 is Rs 2,320.14 crore. The average expenditure per year for 66 ministries is Rs 454 crore.
