Lower House approves 2025 Customs Law amendments
AMMAN — The Lower House on Monday approved the 2025 draft amended Customs Law by a majority vote and referred the 2025 Buildings and Lands Tax Bill to the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Investment.
During a session chaired by Speaker Ahmed Safadi and attended by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and members of the government team, Articles 13 to 25 of the amended Customs Law were approved, following the approval of Articles 1 to 12 in a previous session.
According to its validating reasons, the amended Customs Bylaw aims to enhance efficiency, streamline procedures, and improve Jordan's investment climate and economic competitiveness, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
It also grants the Customs Department greater flexibility by allowing specialised personnel to handle clearance and cargo release, enforce relevant regulations and conduct post-clearance audits in line with international standards.
The amendments also accelerate clearance procedures, ensure access to necessary information while maintaining banking confidentiality, and introduce electronic notifications for customs-related decisions.
Additionally, customs officials can now conduct inspections remotely if electronic systems allow monitoring without requiring the physical presence of the concerned party.
Lawmakers also raised a series of parliamentary questions, with government responses on several key issues. MPs inquired about the Attarat project agreement, which was directed to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh. They also requested information on the progress of genetic mapping, directed to Health Minister Firas Hawari.
Lawmakers questioned the government regarding plans to establish a wastewater treatment plant in the Zarqa River area, requesting specific details on its exact location. In addition, MPs raised concerns about the use of smart applications in public transportation, to which Minister of Transport Wissam Tahtamouni responded that the government is currently reviewing the licensing regulations for the sector.
MPs also sought information on efforts to address traffic congestion in Amman. The minister explained that traffic-related issues are within the ministry's jurisdiction. Regarding the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project between Zarqa and Amman, the minister noted that it is still in the trial phase and has shown encouraging passenger numbers. On the Hejaz Railway project, she confirmed that feasibility studies are currently underway.

Nassar added that the tax exemptions, the doubling of the budget starting next year, and support for youth centers constitute strategic steps reflecting the government's belief in the importance of sports and its role in enhancing Jordan's international presence. These measures will also help sustain the association's activities and expand talent development programs across all governorates. She concluded by affirming that the government's continuous support serves as a major motivation to continue working diligently to achieve further accomplishments that raise the nation's flag in international arenas.

Government Retrieves Draft Laws to Advance Economic Modernization Vision - Jordan News
Prime Minister Jafar Hassan has instructed the retrieval of three draft laws from the Lower House of Parliament in preparation for consultations with relevant sectors on the executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision for the next three years. اضافة اعلان The drafts include the Building and Land Tax Law of 2025, the Social Security Law of 2024, and the Amendment to the Mediation Law for Settlement of Civil Disputes of 2019. The revisions reaffirm that no new fees or taxes will be introduced, while updating certain regulations to facilitate citizens' access to justice. The current law has been in effect for 71 years. The Social Security Law is being revisited in coordination with the upcoming results of an actuarial study mandated every three years to assess the institution's financial status. Amendments to the draft law will reflect the findings of this study to maintain fiscal sustainability. The draft law on mediation for the settlement of civil disputes, originally submitted in 2019, is being updated to reflect practical developments in dispute resolution. The amendments aim to increase amicable settlements, promote private mediation, and support the objectives of the 2022-2026 Justice Sector Strategy, launched in partnership between the Ministry of Justice and the Judicial Council to strengthen judicial mediation mechanisms.

Income Tax Refunds for 2023 and Earlier to Be Disbursed Starting Today for Two Weeks - Jordan News
The Income and Sales Tax Department announced that starting today, Wednesday, and for a period of two weeks, it will complete the disbursement of income tax refunds that have been audited and deposited into the Treasury for the year 2023 and earlier. The refunds are designated for eligible employees, workers, individuals, and companies. اضافة اعلان The department explained that the total refunds to be disbursed over the two-week period amount to approximately 22 million Jordanian dinars, covering employees, workers, individuals, and companies for the year 2023 and prior. This disbursement follows the directives of Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan issued last March to release refunds for previous years, which totaled 26 million dinars. During the two-week period, the department will send daily SMS notifications to eligible taxpayers on the phone numbers registered in its electronic system, informing them of the refund and confirming the transfer of the amount to their registered bank account via the IBAN provided.
