Former Nebraska basketball player Keisei Tominaga drops 12 points in the NBA Summer League

USA Today6 days ago
A former Husker put together his first double-digit outing in his final game of the NBA Summer League. Keisei Tominaga delivered 12 points for the Indiana Pacers in his first start of the Summer League.
Tominaga played for just 19 minutes in the Pacers' 113-104 win over the New Orleans Pelicans but made substantial efforts to close out the tournament with a solid performance.
He shot 4-of-13 from the floor, 2-of-8 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. Tominaga had previously played in only two games for Indiana in the Summer League, accumulating three points in 15 total minutes of play.
Indiana concludes the Summer League with a 3-2 record, missing out on the Summer League playoffs.
Tominaga was picked up by the Pacers in 2024 after playing three seasons at Nebraska. He then appeared in 14 games with the Indiana Mad Ants, the Pacers' G League affiliate, before being called up to play in the Summer League.
In his three seasons with the Huskers, Tominaga scored 1,074 points and finished seventh in school history for career 3-pointers, with 178 made. In his final season with the Huskers, he averaged 15.1 points per game, helping the team to a 23-11 record and a third-place Big Ten finish.

Ben Shelton takes down Francis Tiafoe in DC Open quarter-finals

Ben Shelton continued his dominant run at the Mubadala Citi DC Open on Friday night with a 7-6(2), 6-4 victory over Francis Tiafoe, who was the hometown favorite in Washington. Shelton and Tiafoe are no strangers to one another. They played doubles together a few days ago and have now met four times in ATP Tour events. "We know tennis is a long journey. We're going to play each other a bunch of times. Especially, we've already played on the hard courts, we've already played twice at the US Open, and he beat me the most recent time. It's tough not to cheer for a guy like that,' Shelton said. The first set stayed on serve until the 11th game, when Tiafoe broke Shelton to love. The former Florida Gator bounced back immediately, breaking Tiafoe and forcing a tie-break. Shelton used his power forehand to claim the first set, delivering a 144 mph serve in the process. Shelton broke first in the second set at 3-3, and it was cruise control from there. The win puts Shelton ahead, 3-1, in the Head2Head series. Shelton already secured the No. 7 spot on the rankings by making the quarter-finals, but every win gets him closer and closer to No. 6 Novak Djokovic, who many consider to be the greatest of all time. It's a 600-point gap to close, but winning this tournament would cut that number in half. Winning the Washington 500 seems very doable with top-seeded Taylor Fritz falling in the quarters against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Shelton is now the highest-seeded player remaining in the tournament. Still, he will have to get by Davidovich Fokina before facing the winner of the 7-seed Alex de Minaur vs. lucky loser Corentin Moutet. De Minaur and Moutet are scheduled to begin not before 7 p.m. ET, and Shelton vs. Davidovich Fokina will follow — so drink some coffee. Iowa football safety reveals reason he didn't transfer from program

The college football transfer portal has run rampant in the sport for the past couple of years. It's affected every college football program in the country, including Iowa, who has seen talented players come and go over the past few years. But, not every player is like that. Some players still have a lot of love and respect for the Hawkeyes' approach and track record of development. These are players who stick around despite not playing much early in their tenure with the program, but who then get rewarded for their patience. Koen Entringer is one of those guys. The 6-foot-1, 211-pound junior safety out of Ypsilanti, Mich., has appeared in 30 games as a Hawkeye, with only one start to his name. Entringer has recorded 27 tackles and an interception across those 30 games. The Michigan product is very talented and could've easily left early in his career to go somewhere for more playing time. But, Entringer stuck it out and was able to represent Iowa at Big Ten media days in Las Vegas on Thursday. Entringer spoke about his decision to stay at Iowa, even when the playing time wasn't there. "I think the main reason I didn't leave is just because I'm committed to the team and I'm committed to the players. I knew that Quinn (Schulte) coming back was going to help the team and if I was good enough to beat him out, I would've beat him out. Coach (Phil) Parker is a fair guy and he found a way for me to be on the field. "I know it's not common for a lot of guys. They want to play right away. But, I just looked at it in the long term. Playing at Iowa is just a tremendous opportunity," Entringer said. Entringer's comments say a lot about him as a player and as a person, and speak to Iowa's overall approach. Guys like Jay Higgins, Luke Lachey, and Sebastian Castro are good examples of sticking around the program, even when playing time isn't there early, and being rewarded for it. Entringer is hoping his name can be added to that list of successes, as he's projected to start at safety in 2025. Fans will get their first glimpse at Entringer and the Hawkeyes when Iowa hosts Albany in the season opener on Aug. 30. Nebraska offensive lineman Henry Lutovsky excited for season opener at Arrowhead Stadium

Nebraska football offensive lineman Henry Lutovsky is excited to get the 2025 season started, with the opener against the Cincinnati Bearcats a little more than five weeks away. The offensive lineman expressed his excitement for the upcoming season as he spoke at Big Ten media days on Tuesday. His growth and development will be necessary for the offensive line moving forward. The line itself should be a much-improved unit, with the offense looking to take that next step overall. Lutovsky said that he can't wait to see how Nebraska fans take over Arrowhead Stadium, home of the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs, in the season opener. "I was in attendance for the AFC Championship Game and that place was crazy. I can only imagine what it's gonna be like with our fans there." Lutovsky made 11 starts in 12 games last season, after getting his feet wet in 2023. He was able to solidify himself as a mainstay on the offensive line last season, after beginning his collegiate career in 2021. Now, it appears that he is in a position to play a featured role on the offensive line. This is one of the many intriguing subplots that should make for an exciting 2025 season. Nebraska will open the 2025 college football season on Thursday, August 28, when the Huskers face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The kickoff time is set for 8:00 p.m. CT. Contact/Follow us @CornhuskersWire on X (formerly Twitter), and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Nebraska news, notes, and opinions.
