Seeing the sales predictions for the Nintendo Switch 2 it's clear the console is going to be a major success, much bigger than the PlayStation 5. You can complain about the mistakes Nintendo has made in the reveal, and some of the lesser games (I still haven't heard any explanation for why Kirby: Air Riders is a 2025 game) but the thought of a new Switch and a new Mario Kart is all a lot of people need to hear.
I don't say they're wrong either. I need a bit more myself, especially as Donkey Kong Bananza is an unknown factor, but while I am still somewhat tempted, the problem is that the Switch 2 is clearly going to be almost impossible to get, whether you want it or not.
Nintendo were probably unwise to talk about having so much stock that scalping will be irrelevant. But they are wrong because the console has proven 'too popular'. Unless you happen to be in the right place at the right time, for the few seconds stock is available, I don't think there's any real chance of getting a Switch 2 before launch. There aren't going to be any major pre-orders at all. At this point I doubt it'll be much easier even by Christmas.

What this excellent Oblivion remaster shows is how Bethesda have lost their way with their recent mainline games. I'm a big fan of theirs and have put a lot of time into Starfield, but all that procedurally generated nonsense just doesn't work for me. Their best work comes in their dungeons and handcrafted open worlds, the potato head characters have never bothered me one iota.
Oblivion was the first game I played by them, back on the Xbox 360, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. I managed to conquer it back then, but I never really mastered it. I closed the main quest and Oblivion gates way too early and never got to see half the dungeons. Playing it now feels like unfinished business, a beautifully enhanced unfinished business, may I add, in Unreal Engine 5.
I don't know if it's a lot harder than Skyrim, or I've just forgotten the map, but I'm having real difficulty in those Ayelid ruins on this playthrough. I vaguely remember some of the missions, but I've spent way too many hours in Skyrim to really remember things about Oblivion. I'm really enjoying this game again and I'm glad I bought it after first thinking it might just be another Bethesda cash grab. Let's have Fallout 3 and New Vegas next and welcome Elder Scrolls 6 in with open arms.

Seems to me, after reading your news of 2.2 million people wanting a Switch 2 in Japan, Nintendo have got the Switch 2 perfect for another generation. 2.2 million? How mad is that? Everywhere is sold out in the UK. You get the odd one or two available, but it's sold out within a second or two and if the USA pre-orders go live on Thursday it seems they're going to be gone in seconds as well.
By Xmas people will still be waiting for one. I really thought it wouldn't sell well and it goes to prove I know nothing about the gaming market or what people are willing to pay for it.

New information
Do you guys know how all my games from my Switch will transfer to my Switch 2 come launch? I pre-ordered mine on April 4th at Smyths toy store in York.
I want to sell my Switch whilst I can a better return on it. I have a lot of games I have bought digitally, and I don't want to lose them. Nintendo during the Direct mentioned that come late May they will put up on My Nintendo how it will work. I would rather know sooner rather than later.
On another note, the store I pre-ordered from is relocating to another area of York on 22nd May. They better not lose my pre-order in the move; I have my receipt though. I will be there at 9am on June 5th at the new location to collect my Switch 2.

GC: We had exactly this same question earlier in the week. Although that was before Nintendo decided to suddenly change its information about Zelda cloud saves. Hopefully that should make things easier though, so all you have to do is redownload your digital games and then transfer your saves from the cloud – although you'll need to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online to do that.

While everyone seems to be doing their best to manufacture controversy over the Switch 2, because it's generating clicks, I've been looking back through my Switch library to work out what to play on 5th June, other than Mario Kart, obviously.
I think it's about time I played XCOM: War Of The Chosen again. My laptop loads it almost instantly and runs it at 200+ fps with settings maxed, because it has no selectable frame rate cap. However, despite the low graphics settings, minutes long loads and choppy frame rate, there is something about just playing it slumped on the couch on the Switch.
The Switch 2 should do wonders for the experience, and now I've had the idea I'm already getting itchy fingers waiting.

Meant to write in a few weeks ago, with the news of Star Wars XCOM, which I'm very excited about. However, I always feel a bit sad that they created XCOM 2, one of the greatest games of all time, then brought out War Of The Chosen, which somehow made it even better and added some really interesting mechanics, and then instead of making 3, they made Midnight Suns instead.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a terrible game, it's actually quite good, but a card-based Marvel game was pretty doomed as it would alienate Marvel fans and XCOM fans from the start.
More recently I loved your review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33; 9/10 from Metro means it must be a seriously good game and it made me buck the trend and pre-order it (I swore I never to do that after agents of mayhem broke me), but so far it is living up to the hype and some!

GC: Thank you. We'd rate Midnight Suns much higher than you, though. If it wasn't for the overstuffed narrative elements back at the Abbey, we believe it would've been approaching XCOM 2 status – we thought the combat was excellent.
Next gen price hike
The new Street Fighter and Legend Of Zelda amiibo are currently in stock on Nintendo Store UK, available for pre-order on June 5th 2025. There is also a Street Fighter 6 amiibo Cards Starter Set which has three character cards for Kimberley, Luke, and Jamie for £24.99 available for pre-order too.
They are very expensive compared to previous amiibo prices. I've pre-ordered the Street Fighter amiibo myself. I would like to get the Zelda ones too but will have to get that at another time, as they are expensive compared to Switch 1 amiibo. The Zelda amiibo are cheaper than the Street Fighter 6 amiibo.

Multiformat option
Thanks for the recommendations from GC reader Andy F. After reading some reviews of Mario Golf: Super Rush I've decided to pass on that game and pick up Everybody's Golf, when it finally gets released onto the Switch, as this series has always been supremely enjoyable when I've played them on various PlayStation platforms in the past.
I still have a quandary with the Mario games I mentioned though. That's basically because I'm not very good at 2D Mario games and I tend to fare better in a 3D world. However, with Super Mario Odyssey I've read so many times that the moons feel too easily earned and superfluous. I adored the Galaxy games because each star was a challenge and meant something to me. I know this is a very divisive issue, however.
I'm currently looking up reviews of all three of the Mario games I mentioned, including Bowser's Fury.
I still do have a gripe with the Switch 2 though and feel that Nintendo have valued innovation over economics regarding the console being mostly flat in handheld mode. I'm going to have to purchase some aftermarket kit to make the Switch 2 usable for longer sessions in handheld as I have carpal tunnel in both hands. I'd also like a proper D-Pad from the company who invented it.
Seems crazy to say that my Xbox Series X/S controllers allow me superior control on 1 vs 1 fighters, like Street Fighter 6 (I have no issues pulling off special moves for example) over a Nintendo device. Anyway, that's my little rant out the way.

GC: Ignoring the New Super Mario sub-series, you'd be hard pressed to find any Mario platformer that wasn't an exceptional game. But Super Mario 3D World is right in the middle between 2D and 3D, so it seems perfect for you. As for the Switch 2, the Pro Controller has always been a very good joypad.
Inbox also-ransIt's interesting that Mario Kart World doesn't have any non-Mario characters in it, even though Mario Kart 8 Deluxe does. Is that a sign of DLC to come or that Nintendo is trying to pull things back in and avoid a Nintendo Kart situation – it's not like World doesn't have tons of characters as it is.

Just finished Indiana Jones And The Great Circle and it was overall a really good game, but that final boss battle was absolutely terrible. A 30 hour game and literally the final 10 minutes were the worst bit.

The Wednesday letters page is surprised at Sony's provocative State of Play annoucement, as one reader finally starts to get excited about Nintendo Switch 2. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@ No notes Pretty gutted to hear that there'll be no Nintendo Switch 2 reviews at launch but that was the rumour, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. I don't really need a review of Mario Kart World, especially with the previews out, but I would've liked to see a detail hardware review of the console and its peripherals. Do you think it's possible a hardware focused site like Digital Foundry or a similar YouTube channel could've been sent the consoles early to review just them, and not the games? I haven't pre-ordered, but I was probably planning to pick one up this week if I can, now I don't know what to do. I don't really buy the day one update excuse (what's the betting the patch notes don't explain anything?) but I also don't know why else they'd do this. Nintendo games always review well so it's kind of worrying that they don't think these ones will. Benjy Dog GC: It's possible Nintendo could've given hardware-only outlets early access, but as far as we know everyone in Europe is in the same situation (or worse) as us. Perhaps one or two of the bigger US sites will get them earlier but we don't think so, given they haven't got them yet. Less than perfect So there we have it, officially: there will be no Nintendo Switch 2 reviews before launch and I'm guessing not until next week. Although I'm sure we'll see a bunch from more unreliable sites anyway, which is a handy opportunity to make a note of who never to listen to in the future. I think probably Nintendo is not trying to manipulate anything exactly, but I have seen a number of previews, including GC and Eurogamer, have pointed out that the open world isn't really used for much, other than messing around. This is not something I'd considered before, I just assumed it would have all sorts of extra races and things, but it seems the extra missions are pretty trivial. Nobody seems entirely sure, because nobody has played more than five hours or so, but if this has been left intentionally blank for future DLC I think that's pretty cynical and will backfire badly, given the cost of the game. But I don't know what the alternative is? That Nintendo has lost its touch and made a big open world and forgot to put anything in it? No one seems to be complaining about the actual races, but I don't get the impression this is going to be getting any 10/10 scores. Focus Poke the bear Pretty shocking that Sony would have their State of Play try and undermine the Switch 2 launch. They can deny it is, but to announce it at the last minute like that, to take place literally an hour before the Switch 2 comes out. They knew exactly what they were doing. It's a long time since Sony has been this aggressive. I don't think they've even acknowledged Nintendo publicly since the PSP was battling the DS all those years ago. On the one hand it's childish and petty but on the other hand at least Sony did something. At least they woke up for a second and showed some fight. I worry that whatever's in the State of Play is just going to be more live service rubbish but if they manage to put out a good one then maybe this will be seen as a turning point and whatever it is they think they've been doing for the last two years can quickly become a memory. But I've just bought a new gen Fire TV Max stick and noticed you can stream Xbox games with Game Pass Ultimate. So, while I wait to buy a Switch 2 (not pre-ordered), I dusted off my last remaining Xbox Series X controller – a custom job by The Juve using my Microsoft Reward points – bought one month's Game Pass and had a quick blast. I have to say it works really well – no problems with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor or Atomfall so far, other than maybe around textures. Next up will be Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I recently upgraded to decent broadband though, so I doubt I'd have been as impressed a month ago. However, while I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it works, I still don't see the value in a persistent subscription, especially at the current price. The State Of Play will disappoint us once more. It will marginally fail on each and every count. Why wouldn't it? At this point, must I even shake my head at the people who will expect the world and collect the scraps? Shahzaib Sadiq GC: The last State of Play was pretty good. Shadows Die Thrice I'm very much looking forward to getting my Switch 2 on Thursday, but the wait has not been painful at all, as I've had the absolute pleasure of playing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for the first time. I think it might just be my favourite FromSoftware game. It probably has the best combat of any game I've played, definitely the best stealth ever, extremely satisfying traversal, and a fantastic 16th century Japanese setting. The balance between parrying, attacking, dodging, and countering is truly inspired, with the fights having a real feeling of flow and fluidity. The world and enemy design is top notch, with a welcome emphasis on more human rather than fantastical opponents. It's interesting that many people bounced off the game due to the difficulty. I don't think it's any more difficult than any other Soulsbourne game, probably easier. Even the famed final boss was not insurmountable once you learned his tricks. I remember Laurence and Orphan of Kos in Bloodborne being much harder to defeat, not to mention Ornstein and Smough in Dark Souls! (I hate dual bosses!). I would very much welcome a sequel, spiritual or otherwise, to Sekiro with lots more potential in the whole concept. I hope it isn't the last we've seen of the lone wolf! I wanted to ask, is the game a rougelike? With the tower set-up it made me wonder if it was, but there's been nothing from the trailers I've seen to totally confirm or deny this? Sunny GC: It's not a roguelike. Good enough I'm starting to get excited for the old Switch 2 now, finally. I've one booked and fully paid for at Argos, and a backup £20 deposit for a Smyths down the road ( not going at midnight, that's a young man's game. And I won't be scalping if I get hold of one of them). Mario Kart 8 has become an almost nightly ritual for me and my partner, so Mario Kart World is a no-brainer, especially with the bundle. I'm like 95% through Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, so intend to upgrade and finish that, and strangely I'm dying to play the original Ridge Racer via Arcade Archives. Is that the most amazing launch line-up I've ever encountered? No, but with Donkey Kong: Bananza in July, Metroid Prime 4 at some point, and maybe some bits and bobs before Christmas I'd say it's a strong enough suite of games for a launch window. My biggest worry is figuring out which SD card works and what to buy and transferring my games and saves from my launch Switch 1. New Nintendo Switch 2 bundles can be paid for in instalments
New Nintendo Switch 2 bundles will be available at launch, but not everyone will be able to buy them and not just because of limited stock. You're no doubt already aware how difficult it has been to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order, ever since they went live last month – despite Nintendo's efforts to make enough stock to meet demand. Now that launch week is upon us, some UK retailers have announced that they'll be able to supply a small amount of Switch 2 consoles on launch day itself, which is Thursday, June 5. Smyths is running a midnight launch across its stores, Argos has informed customers that it'll have new stock by launch day morning, and now a new set of bundles have been announced… although they do require some extra hoop jumping. These bundles will be exclusively available through mobile network operator and internet service provider EE and its own online store. Not everyone can just hop on and purchase them though; you need to already be an EE mobile customer. If you are, then this is a golden opportunity for scoring a Switch 2 at launch. Plus, you don't need to pay the full price straight away, as EE is offering monthly plans. The first bundle is for the console and a copy of Mario Kart World (EE hasn't specified if it's a digital or physical copy). Normally, Nintendo sells this for £429.99, but EE's deal asks for £20 upfront followed by monthly payments of £22 on a 24-month plan. More Trending This does come to £548 in total, but the bundle also includes a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription (the one that'll let you access GameCube games) and 24 months of Gamer's and Video Data Passes for streaming and playing games without using up your mobile data allowance. The second bundle is the same as the first, but it throws in the Switch 2 camera accessory as well. For this, you pay £20 upfront and then £25 a month on a 24-month plan. The third and final one has all the same content as the second one, plus an extra pair of Joy-Con 2s and £50 of game credit. It is the most expensive of the lot, requiring the usual £20 starting fee and then £30 a month on a 24-month plan. If you meet the criteria, you'll be able to purchase one of these bundles on EE's own online store on June 5. Unfortunately, EE doesn't mention an exact time for when they'll go live, and you know these will sell out super quickly, despite being limited to EE customers. Dark EastEnders scenes as Joel makes horror move in story with Tommy
Joel Marshall (Max Murray) continues to prove a bad influence on Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) in upcoming scenes on EastEnders. Joel took Tommy under his wing soon after arriving in Walford, and the pair quickly became thick and thieves. Already lonely and troubled, Tommy found (human) friendship in Joel, bonding as they bullied Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) and unleashed all manner of teenage mischief over Albert Square. Newcomer Joel's behaviour has taken an increasingly dark turn however, after he slept with Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) and then shamed her for it online. This week, the pair stole Alfie Moon's (Shane Richie) credit card, using it to watch a pornographic video online. Dad Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) and Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) are still under the impression that his friendship with Tommy is good for Joel… but are unaware that the situation is about to drastically worsen. Vicki is disturbed when Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) reveals that no-one wants to be friends with Joel because he shamed Avani online for sleeping with him. Meanwhile, thinking Alfie responsible for the pornographic video on his laptop, Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) finally confronts him. The pair soon work out that it was Tommy who had been watching it. Elsewhere, Vicki tells Ross about Joel's actions toward Avani. The pair agree that he needs more positive male role models in his life. Later, they see Joel helping Tommy with his speech for Kat and Alfie's wedding. The pair breathe a sigh of relief, hoping that the friendship will be good for Joel. The next day, Kat and Alfie prepare to celebrate their wedding. However, concerns over Tommy and the video prevent them from enjoying the day. Alfie promises to talk to Tommy – but is it too little, too late? Elsewhere, Joel shows Tommy a video by a social media influencer who says derogatory things about women. More Trending Is Joel about to lead Tommy down an even darker path? This is just the latest worrying development from Joel, who's consistently proved himself to have an alarming attitude toward women. It was recently revealed that the reason Joel and Ross are no longer welcome back in Australia is due to Joel's past – making an 'upskirting' video without the other party's knowledge or consent. View More » Since arriving in Walford, he wasted little time in reverting to bad habits, making a recording of his time in bed with Avani. Ross discovered the footage, but chose to keep it a secret, so long as Joel kept his nose clean.
