Arsenal rule out summer move for Real Madrid rising star

Yahoo3 days ago
In recent days, speculation over Rodrygo's future has only intensified, with Liverpool, in particular, accelerating their pursuit of the young forward.
The Reds are determined to bring in a new face in attack amid uncertainties over Luis Diaz's future at the club.
Liverpool, therefore, are ready to do whatever it takes to sign Rodrygo. However, they are not the only Premier League club interested in the Real Madrid.
In recent weeks, Arsenal, too, have been linked with a move for the Brazilian international, who even reportedly harbours the dream of playing for the Gunners.
Arsenal won't make Rodrygo move
However, a recent update from Anton Meana on Carrusel claims that Arsenal have closed the doors on a move for Rodrygo this summer.
It appears the arrival of Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres has significantly reduced the London club's need for a new attacker.

The deal for Rodrygo has now become 'very complicated' and that the door is essentially closed, at least for now.
Arsenal had previously shown interest, even fielding enquiries through the player's entourage. But they could not wait for Real Madrid to put him on the market, and have moved on.
Real Madrid, for their part, are not actively looking to offload Rodrygo either. The club have set a price tag of €100 million.
While Liverpool have shown a lot of interest in recent days, it remains to be seen whether or not the Reds are ready to meet such a steep valuation, especially after spending a fortune on Florian Wirtz this summer.
Rodrygo, for his part, is not too keen on the idea of leaving Real Madrid as he truly loves the club. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how things transpire in the coming days.

When can Arsenal make Viktor Gyokeres signing announcement?

Arsenal may soon have a new striker leading the line — and his name is Viktor Gyokeres. After weeks of talks, the Gunners have apparently reached a full agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign the Swedish forward for a total of £63.8 million. That includes a guaranteed £55.1 million fee, plus £8.7 million in add-ons. According to Sky Sports, Gyokeres is in London today for his medical. If all goes smoothly, Arsenal are expected to announce the signing within 48 hours. The 27-year-old has been Arsenal's top target all summer. With Benjamin Sesko staying put at Leipzig, the club shifted its focus entirely to Gyokeres. And who could blame them? He scored 54 goals in 52 games last season. That's not just hot form — that's barbecue level sizzle. Sporting are happy with the bonus structure, which includes payments for appearances, goals, and Champions League qualification. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Gyokeres' agent even waived his £5.6 million commission to help seal the deal. Now that's a striker willing to assist off the pitch too. Will Viktor Gyokeres join Arsenal for pre-season? With Arsenal already in Singapore for their pre-season tour, fans are asking the big question — will Gyokeres join them in Asia? Mikel Arteta gave a hint, saying, 'Obviously, once we have finalised everything with a player, we want to integrate him with the team as quickly as possible.' If the medical checks out, Gyokeres could hop on a plane and link up with the squad in time for Sunday's friendly against Newcastle. Arsenal also face Spurs in Hong Kong later in the week, and Arteta is keen for all new signings to settle in early. Gyokeres would be returning to English football after spells at Brighton and Coventry. This time, though, it looks like he's arriving not as a prospect — but as a game-changer. Liverpool to Open Talks Over £70m Deal for Forward

Bayern Munich Intensify Pursuit of Luis Diaz as Liverpool Stand Firm Bayern Munich have re-engaged with Liverpool over the potential signing of Luis Diaz, as reported by The Athletic. Having seen an earlier offer of €67.5million (£58.6m) rejected, the German champions are now in continued discussions with the Merseyside club, signalling their ongoing desire to land the Colombian international. Although no second bid has been tabled yet, Bayern's interest is far from waning. According to The Athletic, Diaz 'has made it clear that he wants to leave the Anfield club', a stance that will no doubt add pressure to Liverpool's hierarchy during the latter part of the transfer window. Diaz remains under contract until the summer of 2027 and continues to train with the squad, currently on tour in Hong Kong. However, his absence from recent pre-season fixtures against Preston North End and Stoke City raises questions over his short-term future. Photo by IMAGO Bayern's Summer Search for a Forward Bayern's pursuit of attacking reinforcements this summer has been well documented. Their failed attempts to sign Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams, both of whom opted for Liverpool and Athletic Club respectively, have intensified their search for a wide forward. Diaz has emerged as a primary target due to his flexibility across the front line. Bayern view him as a dynamic option who brings creativity, directness and an aggressive attacking profile. His output since joining Liverpool supports that view: 41 goals and 23 assists in 148 appearances is a strong return for a player often asked to perform various tactical roles. Luis Diaz's Rise at Liverpool Signed from Porto in January 2022 for an initial £37.5m fee (rising to £50m with add-ons), Diaz quickly established himself as a fan favourite. His aggressive style and fearless ball-carrying suited the high-intensity demands at Anfield. Over the last three seasons, his contribution has grown, culminating in a key role during Arne Slot's remarkable debut campaign that saw Liverpool reclaim the Premier League title. Diaz's 13 goals in 36 league appearances last season were critical in Liverpool's run-in. His ability to carry the ball through tight spaces and apply pressure off the ball aligned perfectly with Slot's evolving tactical approach. Liverpool's Response Remains Resolute Despite Diaz's desire to leave, Liverpool are under no financial or contractual pressure to sell. With his deal running until 2027 and Slot known to value his tactical flexibility, any potential exit would need to represent significant value. Whether Bayern's next bid will meet that threshold remains to be seen, but regular dialogue between the clubs suggests a deal is far from dead. The next fortnight could be decisive, particularly as Liverpool begin their preparations for the Community Shield and the start of the new Premier League campaign. Our View – EPL Index Analysis This report from The Athletic will leave many uneasy. Luis Diaz has not only improved season by season, but under Arne Slot he has flourished into one of the side's most dependable performers. With 13 league goals and a reputation for turning up in big moments, he played a massive role in returning the title to Anfield. Fans may be surprised at the clarity of Diaz's intention to leave. If those reports are accurate, it begs the question: why now, after a title-winning season and with Champions League football ahead? There's also the concern about replacing Diaz. Liverpool have talent in abundance, with the likes of Darwin Núñez, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa all capable of filling in, but none possess Diaz's unique ability to shift momentum in a game single-handedly. Slot's system values positional interchange and pressing intensity. Losing a player like Diaz would affect the left-sided balance of the team. While Bayern's offer may rise, many fans would hope Liverpool hold firm or secure a replacement of similar calibre before sanctioning any sale. This feels like a potential sliding doors moment. If Diaz departs, it must be on Liverpool's terms, not as a reactive decision driven by player pressure.

Liverpool duo's absence from preseason squad sparks departure rumours

Liverpool have been extremely busy in the transfer market, and while they have made some statement signings, they are also looking to sell a few players. One such player is Darwin Nunez, who is considered surplus to requirements at Anfield after misfiring last season. Another player who has been linked with a departure is Luis Diaz. Liverpool are in no mood to sell the Colombian, but if they get a substantial bid, then they will consider. Bayern Munich have shown interest in the 28-year-old winger, and they are in constant contact with the Reds to reach an agreement. Amidst the talks, Nunez and Diaz were omitted from Liverpool's squad for the preseason fixture against AC Milan in their Hong Kong tour. Once Liverpool announced their squad list for the fixture, fans were shocked to see that both the forwards were left out. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp In the last two friendlies, Nunez was in fine fettle as he scored four goals, whereas Diaz didn't feature in either of the games. Their absence from this fixture has indicated that the Reds are preparing for life after the attacking duo's departure. A look at Nunez and Diaz's stats from the 2024/25 season While Diaz has attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona, Nunez has also been a popular name in the transfer window. Napoli tried their best to sign the Uruguayan, but they failed to reach an agreement with Liverpool. As per recent reports, Nunez is linked with a move to Al Hilal, who are seeking a replacement after getting rejected by Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. Last season, Diaz played a big role in helping the Reds win the Premier League. He primarily played on the left wing and also occasionally featured as a striker. The 28-year-old netted 17 goals and provided five assists in 49 matches last season across competitions. He stepped up in crucial games and provided Arne Slot with dynamism on the left flank with his pace, dribbling and work ethic. Meanwhile, Nunez wasn't at his best last season, but registered seven goals and four assists in 45 games. Only time will tell if it is a temporary absence or if the two players will eventually move away from the Liverpool squad this summer.
