
Pedestrian struck, killed on Hwy. 401 near Mallorytown: OPP
A person has died after they were struck by a vehicle on westbound Highway 401 early Tuesday morning, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Police say they received reports at approximately 5:30 a.m. that a person who had exited their parked vehicle on the shoulder between Mallorytown and Lansdowne was struck by a moving vehicle.
The victim will not be identified to safeguard the privacy of their family, police said in a news release.
The OPP's Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Unit (TIME) and a collision reconstructionist attended the scene.
The investigation continues with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
The highway remained closed for several hours and has since reopened.

Man arrested after fiery 5-vehicle Gardiner crash in early July: police
A man has been arrested in connection with a fiery, five-vehicle crash that killed one person and injured several others earlier this month, Toronto police say. Police said they arrested a 26-year-old man from Caledon, Ont., after he turned himself in this week. He has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. Just after 5:30 p.m. on July 8, police were called about a multi-vehicle collision on the Gardiner Expressway near Lower Jarvis Street, Toronto police said in a news release Thursday. Three of the five vehicles caught fire following the crash. One of the cars that became engulfed in flames also flipped on its side against a highway barrier, police said. The driver of one of the vehicles, a 68-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Four people were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two others were treated by paramedics at the scene. The accused was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday, police said.
