Nepal PM Oli confirms India visit, says timing depends on groundwork
He, however, did not specify any time.
Oli's comment about his visit to India comes amid speculations by some sections of local media that he didn't receive any invitation from India for an official visit, indicating that his relations with India became sour.
I will probably embark on a visit to India. My visit to India will take place after the two sides do necessary ground works, Oli said in an interview to a Nepalese Youtube channel Dishanirdesh TV late on Thursday.
It was in July last year that Oli, the chairperson of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) - popular as the CPN-UML - assumed the office of Prime Minister for the fourth time.
He had chosen to visit China for his maiden foreign visit, breaking the tradition of visiting India as the first destination after assuming the post of prime minister.
Oli also revealed that he had extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Nepal. Prime Minister Modi will probably visit Nepal towards November, he said adding, I have already sent the invitation to him.
My India visit will take place at an appropriate time, he added.
Modi and Oli met on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok on April 4.
Oli also dismissed rumours that India doesn't like him. India did nothing bad when I became the Prime Minister, he said.
In a different context, Oli pointed out, We have very good relations with both India and China.
India and China both are rising economic powers and it is good that our neighbours are moving in the path of development, he said, adding, Nepal may benefit from the spill over effect of their development.
They (India and China) should focus attention on their development, but it is not good to be involved in cut-throat competition, Oli advised.
There should be healthy competition between them. They should choose the path of cordial relations, but not a path that bears tension.
Answering a question how it will affect Nepal if tension prevails between its northern and southern neighbours, Oli said, Nepal will also benefit if there are good relations between India and China.
We can benefit from cooperation and collaboration with them and also we may benefit from their big market.

From JD to BJP and out: It's Dhankhar's turn
New Delhi: In a strange coincidence, the abruptly-resigned vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar is only the latest case of a bunch of political travellers -- with roots in the perennially bickering erstwhile Janata Dal (JD) mob -- who had travelled into the BJP , to bag prized posts in the Narendra Modi establishment only to be ejected at the sight of crossing the line or error of judgement. Ex-JD-Congressman Dhankhar, who progressed from the West Bengal Raj Bhavan to the Vice-President's office, shares the same zig-zag journey of fellow 'Jat farmer leader' Satyapal Malik , a former JD leader who moved to the BJP and held gubernatorial offices in Bihar, J&K, Odisha, Goa and Meghalaya during the Modi regime only to end up with a bitter and noisy parting. Many in the Opposition are now watching whether Dhankhar too will make noises or opt to play it safe. It was often said that in the post-2014 BJP surge propelled by the Modi effect, the premium was on ideological alignment and Sangh Parivar grooming, from ABVP-Yuva Morcha upwards, to be considered for key posts in the Centre, and flourish -- with a few exceptions for technocrats with ministerial briefs. Yet, some political aberrations became notable for the way they flourished in the BJP, mostly from the JD background, and some converts from the Congress. Yet, many of them eventually got grounded mostly for apparently failing to master the temperament and instincts of 'the homegrown'. However, a colleague of Dhankhar and Mallik in the Janata Dal platform, who too later moved to the BJP ecosystem, is Arif Mohd Khan , who is going steady in the Modi regime as a rare governor, who got a second posting -- that too in poll-bound Bihar -- after completing a full-term in Kerala. In between, the Modi regime also entered into an ambitious ruling coalition experiment in J&K with yet another Congressman turned Janata Dal-turned PDP leader Mufti Mohd Sayed, who was also with Khan in the VP Singh-floated Jan Morch (of Congress rebels) against Rajiv Gandhi regime, but that coalition in Srinagar unravelled due to in-built contradictions after Mehbooba Mufti became CM after her father's untimely death. Yet another JD-pedigreed man who found short-term luck as CM of Karnataka was Basavraj Bommai, son of former JD national president SR Bommai, who led the BJP to defeat. Incidentally, a BJP leader, who had held key ministerial posts in the Vajpayee regime and who later made a lot of noise when a 'marg darshak mandal' was created for 75+ old BJP leaders post-2014, was Yashwant Sinha, who too had travelled into the BJP from Janata Dal (from its Chandra Shekhar faction). It was from the Janata Dal camp that Maneka Gandhi (along with her son Varun) joined the BJP with much fanfare as the 'other half of the Gandhi family' during the Vajpayee-Advani era and flourished long before they were denied election tickets and grounded recently. India-UK free trade pact gets cabinet nod, signing set for 24 July in London
New Delhi: The Union cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday approved the India-UK free trade agreement, paving the way for the much-awaited formal signing of the pact during Modi's visit to London on 24 July, said two government officials, asking not to be identified. Advertisement The agreement, aimed at boosting goods and services trade between the two countries, will be signed by commerce minister Piyush Goyal and his British counterpart Jonathan Reynolds in the presence of Modi and British prime minister Keir Starmer, as per the first official, who is involved in preparations for the signing ceremony. Modi begins a four-day trip on Wednesday that will take him to the UK and the Maldives, with the signing of the free trade agreement (FTA) in London expected to be a key highlight. India and the UK had concluded negotiations for the deal on 6 May after more than two years of talks. UK Parliament must ratify The pact, which also includes chapters on services, innovation, government procurement, intellectual property rights and anti-corruption, will come into effect after it is ratified by the UK Parliament, which may take another six months. As per practice, the agreement will be signed by the commerce ministers of both countries, but officials said the Prime Minister's presence will add political significance to the event. The pact will mark India's first major bilateral trade agreement with a developed Western economy since the Modi government accelerated its FTA agenda -- part of a wider strategy to diversify export markets and attract investments. Separately, India and the UK have also concluded negotiations on a social security agreement—called the Double Contribution Convention—that will allow Indian professionals working in Britain on short-term assignments to avoid paying into both countries' social security systems. The FTA does not include the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) —the so-called carbon tax—at this stage, but both officials said it will be taken up for discussions later. The total bilateral trade stood at $21.34 billion in 2023-24, up from $20.36 billion in the previous year.
