The latest installment of the Housefull franchise has earned Rs 24 crore net in India
Akshay Kumar's latest comedy film Housefull 5 is getting a positive response from the audience. The film, also starring Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Nargis Fakhri, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Soundarya Sharma in lead roles, was released on June 6. Well, recently he shared a video wearing the now-viral killer's mask and walking among the public to gauge their real-time reaction — all while remaining unrecognised.
Sharing the video on his Instagram handle, Akshay Kumar wrote, 'Bas yun hi I decided to wear the killer mask and interview people coming out of the Housefull5 show at Bandra today. Pakda jaane wala thaa end mein but bhaag gaya us se pehle. Mast experience." In the video, he is seen wearing the killer mask and asking netizen about their reaction. Many called the film superb. However, no one noticed Akshay Kumar behind the mask.

The latest installment in the Housefull franchise is off to a strong start at the box office. According to data from Sacnilk, the comedy entertainer earned Rs 24 crore net in India on its opening day. The worldwide collection on Day 1 stood at Rs 40 crore. Day 2, a Saturday, saw an upward trend with the film bringing in an estimated Rs 30 crore net domestically — taking the total to approximately Rs 54 crore so far.
The movie maintained a nationwide occupancy of 33.18%, with figures climbing steadily through the day. Chennai, in particular, stood out with a 52% occupancy rate — a strong number for a Hindi-language comedy.
With Sunday still ahead before the weekday slowdown, fans and analysts alike are watching to see how far Housefull 5 can go in its opening weekend.
A major talking point around the film is its unique twist — it's been released with two alternate endings: Housefull 5 A and Housefull 5 B. Director Tarun Mansukhani shared the origin of this bold move:
'Sajid (Sajid Nadiadwala) sir had this idea about 30 years ago. And finally, he brought it to Housefull 5. And that was one of the most exciting things for me as a director to make a film with two different climaxes."
This fresh concept appears to be resonating with moviegoers, adding curiosity and repeat viewings to the film's appeal. However, the film is getting mixed reviews from the critics. News18 Showsha gave it 2.5 stars. An excerpt from the review read, 'What makes the movie slump even lower is the music and the number of songs pushed into the scenes and the screenplay to make the film longer. Imagine dealing with an already stretched script, and then you have to tolerate even the unnecessary dance numbers. If this is the standard of comedy we get from the Housefull franchise, then Nadiadwala has to step up and raise the bar in the next instalment."
