The partnership will deliver leading core banking infrastructure for The Co-operative Bank (through a phased full-platform migration) which will position the bank for future growth and continue to enable better banking for its 180,000+ customers.
The Co-operative Bank is 10x's first customer in New Zealand, underscoring their focus and investment in the APAC region. The announcement follows the news that 10x Banking is powering the UK's eighth largest building society, West Brom Building society, underscoring accelerating momentum for digital innovation across the mutuals and cooperative banking sector globally.
The Co-operative Bank was recently named Consumer NZ People's Choice Award winner for the fourth consecutive year. To further enhance its acclaimed customer experience with innovative digital solutions, the bank chose 10x Banking as the foundation for its next phase of growth. With personal banking customers across New Zealand, the bank sought a platform to improve efficiency and accelerate digital innovation - while preserving its customer-first ethos.
Mark Wilkshire, Chief Executive Officer at The Co-operative Bank, commented: "10x is a great partner for The Co-operative Bank because they fundamentally understand what matters to us as a customer-owned B-Corp - putting customers before profits. This partnership allows us to preserve our unique values while building leading, responsive banking services our customers deserve. For our customers, whether they're saving for a first home or managing everyday finances, this partnership helps ensure we'll be equipped to support their financial lives today and for the future."
Anthony Jenkins, Founder and CEO at 10x Banking, added: 'This partnership deepens our commitment to the mutual and co-operative sector globally, building on recent successes with member-focused institutions across APAC, Europe and the UK. The Co-operative Bank's customer-first values perfectly align with our mission to make banking ten times better for everyone, and as fellow B-Corps, we share a cultural DNA. We're proud to support their journey as they build the digital foundations for their next century of service."
A shared purpose and values
The Co-operative Bank's digital transition supports an objective to drive growth, attracting community-minded Kiwis, and develop deeper relationships with customers to support them in the long term. Notably, both organisations are B-Corp certified - a strong foundation for a partnership that will enable The Co-operative Bank to preserve its customer-focused heritage while building agile, leading digital services for the future.
The 10x platform will enable comprehensive transformation across a phased migration providing continuity for the bank's customers while unlocking real-time product innovation, a smooth experience across all platforms, and operational efficiencies - critical for long term sustainability for The Co-operative Bank and its profit-sharing model that has returned over $24 million to customers since 2013.
Lewis Ide, Senior Vice President, APAC at 10x Banking, said:
"New Zealand is a dynamic market undergoing rapid transformation. By partnering with The Co-operative Bank, we're bringing our cloud-native platform to a uniquely customer-focused, community-owned institution. We see this as a pivotal moment in APAC's banking evolution - one where technology empowers banks of all sizes to scale new heights and deliver the secure, and personalised experiences customers expect. We're excited to work together to build better banking experiences for New Zealand's customers over the next century."

Banking app with millions of customers launches new feature that could help you save £2,000 a year

A POPULAR banking app with millions of customers has launched a new feature that lets you save cash whenever it's sunny. Plum is known for its handy features that help people save away money without even having to think about it. 1 You can link the smart money app to your bank account so that it automatically sets money aside based on whatever "rule" you choose. It's now introduced a Sunny Day Rule that saves your money every time it's sunny where you are. The app checks when it's sunny in your registered location and will then automatically set aside whatever amount you choose. You can choose to put away as little as £1 or as much as £20 every time. These are the five options you can choose from: Shady Spot - Sets aside £1 when activated Sunny Side Up - Sets aside £2 when activated Summer's Here - Sets aside £5 when activated Beach Day - Sets aside £10 when activated Blazing Hot - Sets aside £20 when activated Plum estimates that if you turn on the Summer 's Here automation you'd save about £519 in a year, based on last year's number of sunny days in the UK. But if you turned on the highest savings mode, you could save a massive £2,078 in a year. The new feature has been inspired by Plum's popular Rainy Day Rule, which puts money away every time it rains. There is also the Naughty Rule, which sets aside a specific amount every time someone shops at retailers they've marked as guilty pleasures. If you're looking to save even more, you can try the 1p challenge. You start off by saving 1p on the first day and then an extra penny is added each day - so on day two you're saving 2p, day three you're saving 3p, etc. This can help you save up to £667 per year. Meanwhile the 52-week challenge automatically sets aside £1 per week that compounds over time to £1,378 in a year. There's no fee or penalty for withdrawing your money and savings stashed with Plum are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) up to £85,000. Nivedhitha Selvam, senior product manager of automations at Plum, said: "Saving can often feel like an uphill struggle, especially at the moment, with the cost of living challenges including rising utility bills, housing payments and council tax costs. "That's why many of our users find automation helpful when it comes to meeting their savings goals, so they don't have to actively do it themselves." What is the Plum app? PLUM is an app that works out how much you can afford to save and then sets it aside for you. There's no fee or penalty for withdrawing your money, and savings stashed away with Plum are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), which covers cash up to £85,000. You can earn up to 2.7% AER in Plum's easy-access interest account - but you could find better interest rates elsewhere. There are four different options when you sign up for Plum, each unlocks various benefits and has a different price. Here's the full list of plans available: Plum Basic (free) allows you to save automatically using the AI algorithm, with unlimited withdrawals and deposits. You can use some smart saving rules such as Round Ups and Pay Days, and money can earn interest of 3.51% AER. You can also invest in "Plum Interest" (a money market fund offering a variable rate of 5.12% VAR) or invest with 1,200 US stocks. Plum Pro (£2.99 a month) allows you to do all the above, plus invest in 17 diversified mutual funds via a Stocks & Shares ISA or GIA. You can also access the 52-Week Challenge and Rainy Days rule and earn interest at 3.72% AER. Plum Ultra (£4.99 a month) allows you to do all the above, plus a Plum debit card which can be loaded with cash for spending, more saving rules like the 1p challenge and Naughty Rule and a smart Spend Tracker to keep up with your spending habits. Plum Premium (£9.99 a month) allows you to do all the above, plus gets the best interest rate (4.21% AER), discounts on investment in 'Plum Interest', access to 26 funds and 3,000 US stocks plus further smart investment features. A savvy saver previously revealed to The Sun they were on track to save £6,500 in a year thanks to using Plum. Paul Twyman, from Suffolk, was using an automated savings function that sets aside money based on what you can afford. He also used the Weekly Depositor feature to arrange a balance transfer for a set amount each week. Another saver, Jacqueline Poutney, said she'd saved over £1,000 using Plum's weekly round-ups. That's when the app automatically rounds up the amount you spend and puts the difference into a pot. What other money saving apps are there? Plenty of other money apps can help you to budget and save, so it's worth looking into each to see which would suit you best. Most apps are free but some may give you the option to upgrade your subscription. They can be a great way to start saving but make sure you don't get sucked into paying for an app that isn't helpful to you. It's definitely worth trying the free app first and checking whether you can do what you need to without a cost. These are some money-saving apps that work in a similar way to Plum. Snoop You can connect Snoop to your bank account and credit cards. It gives you a personal robot to help you budget better and you'll be notified about where you can make potential savings, such as by switching a utility provider. You can also set up alerts so you don't overspend. Snoop can be downloaded for free onto your smartphone via the Apple or Google Play store. Monzo The online bank's app gives a clear summary of your spending in different categories and rounds up outgoings to the nearest pound to set aside savings. You can set up spending targets in categories, and a bill tracker flags if your direct debits are higher or lower than usual. It can be downloaded from your phone 's app store for free. Emma Emma is another free app that can be downloaded from either the Apple or Google Play store. You can see all your accounts in one place and track spending in dozens of different categories. You can set your own budgets, work out how you can save and receive regular bill and spending updates. It's a good way to get a snapshot of your overall finances and how to manage these best. Money Dashboard Money Dashboard is a free app for your phone that gives you spending categories to make budgeting simpler. They can be seen on your personal dashboard and include things like essential bills and food. You can set budgets and see what's left each month. The app will also let you know if you're spending more than you can afford. Banking apps You may also want to check the budgeting options in your banking app. Bank apps can alert you to your spending and they might round it up each day, which helps you keep a closer eye on your spending as you go along. Some of them will divide your spending into categories so you can see more clearly where your money is going and where you need to cut back. The Natwest app, for example, has a spending and budget tracker that categories your spending and lets you set a budget to help you keep track of your outgoings. If you bank with Barclays, you can download the free app to get spending alters to help to you stay on top of your balance.

Lloyds Bank introduces app to deposit cash in stores using a barcode

Lloyds customers will soon be able to scan a barcode generated in their banking app to deposit cash into their bank accounts. The banking giant has launched a new 'barcode cash deposit' feature which will allow customers to deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations around the country. The feature, a first from a big bank, will be available from 26 August when customers will be able to generate a cash deposit barcode in the 'Everyday' area of their Lloyds app. Customers must input the amount they wish to deposit in the app. Customers will then be able to deposit cash at a PayPoint store. These are multi-purpose counters, often found within petrol stations and supermarkets, where people can return or collect parcels, pay bills, buy gift cards or top up a mobile phone. The feature aims to make it more convenient for customers to deposit cash should the need to - 'ideal if they are popping in for milk or dropping off a parcel,' says Gabby Collins, payments director at Lloyds. Customers will be able to pay in up to £300 per day in notes and coins, up to a maximum of £600 a month, and the barcode will be valid for two hours once it has been generated. Once deposited, the cash will be visible in customers accounts within minutes according to Lloyds. Customers can find their nearest PayPoint location using the Lloyds app or on the PayPoint website. There are over 30,000 such services up and down the country and 99.5 per cent of people live within a mile of one, according to Lloyds. Lloyds customers will still be able to deposit cash through traditional channels such as at Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches, at over 100 banking hubs and at 11,500 Post Offices across the UK.

Poland's PKO BP posts 13% profit rise for second quarter

GDANSK, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Poland's biggest bank PKO BP ( opens new tab reported a 13.2% year-on-year rise in its second-quarter profit on Wednesday, driven by a higher net interest income. The largest Polish bank by total assets posted a net profit of 2.66 billion zlotys ($730.7 million) for the quarter, beating market expectations of 2.55 billion zlotys, according to consensus data it had compiled. Its quarterly net interest income grew 21.7% year-on-year to 6.15 billion zlotys, while net fee and commission income fell 0.2% to 1.28 billion zlotys. Net interest margin was at 4.91% in the second quarter compared to 4.95% in the first. The bank said the decline reflected lower interest rates, but was fully compensated by strong volume growth. Poland's Central Bank cut the main interest rate by 25 basis points to 5% in July, citing its expectation for a clear decline in inflation in the coming months and surprising markets which had expected the cost of credit to remain unchanged. While the bank's governor Adam Glapinski said that the cut was not the start of a broader easing cycle, he left the door open to another cut in September. Return on equity (ROE) ratio, a measure of profitability, reached 19.4% at the end of June. Under its strategy until 2027, the bank targets a ROE above 18%. ($1 = 3.6403 zlotys)
