Former AEW Star Makes Surprising Return on 'WWE Monday Night Raw'

Yahoo22-04-2025
A former AEW champion resurfaced on WWE TV during "Monday Night Raw."
The episodes of "WWE Raw" after "WrestleMania" have been known to deliver some surprises and memorable moments. Brock Lesnar's return to WWE in 2012 is a popular example of how unique "Monday Night Raw" can be in the aftermath of the biggest wrestling show of the year.

That tradition continued on Monday. Rusev has appeared on WWE programming for the first time since 2020. Rusev interrupted what would've been a World Tag Team Championship match between The New Day and Alpha Academy.
Rusev attacked Otis and Tozawa before the match could begin. He delivered a big boot to Otis and applied the Accolade submission.
After his first WWE run ended due to being released, Rusev joined AEW, where he was known as Miro. During his time with the company, he had a run with the TNT Championship. While many felt Rusev could be elevated up the card in AEW, his title reign ended up being the peak of his time with the promotion.

In February, Rusev was granted his release from AEW. Around the same time, Ricky Saints and Malakai Black also parted ways with the company. Saints has since become a champion on the "WWE NXT" brand, while Black is reportedly making his WWE return soon.

WWE Consumer Pricing In 2026 Is Way Less Expensive Than You Think

WWE announced a five-year deal to air on ESPN DTC. But as WWE's already plum bank account continues to grow, some fans are worried about their own finances when it comes to viewing WWE content in 2026. Of course, WWE and ESPN's joint announcement was accompanied by social media uproar as many fans misinterpreted the cost of WWE PLEs once the promotion moves to ESPN DTC. How Much Will WWE Content Cost On ESPN DTC? 'In addition to ESPN DTC subscribers, fans that access ESPN through a traditional pay TV provider, e.g. Comcast, DirectTV, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, will also have access to the new features through the enhanced ESPN App,' read an ESPN DTC fact sheet. The Total Cost of Watching WWE In 2026 Since the launch of WWE Network in 2014, WWE fans have become accustomed to paying $9.99 for PLEs. When WWE signed with Peacock, that price reduced to $4.99 per month before increasing to $7.99. The idea of having to pay an extra $29.99—a price point that will not apply to many viewers of ESPN DTC—sent some fans into a frenzy. In reality, the total monthly price of watching WWE programming is less than a WWE pay-per-view prior to April of 2014. It is also less than watching an AEW pay-per-view, which is typically priced at $49.99 or $7 per hour.

Pat McAfee goes off on ‘bum ass suits at ESPN' while praising $1.6 billion WWE deal

Not everyone with the WWE has glowing things to say about ESPN. Former wrestling commentator and current ESPN host Pat McAfee called out some of the mid-level 'suits' as bums after the announcement on Wednesday that WWE and the network are teaming up on a deal to broadcast the promotion's premium live events. 'Congrats to the @WWE and @espn on getting a historic PLE deal done,' McAfee said in a post on X. 4 Pat McAfee figures to see his role only grow in the coming months with this latest move bringing WWE to ESPN. Icon Sportswire via Getty Images 4 John Cena defended his WWE Worlds title against Cody Rhodes at Met Life Stadium on August 3, 2025. George Napolitano / 'Great to see 2 powerhouses of sports and entertainment come together. I assume all the mid-level, powerless, bum ass suits at ESPN will attempt to muddy this somehow (out of context leaks/ignorant anonymous opinions/etc.) but, in the end.. this agreement will outlive the dinosaurs currently guarding desks in Bristol and this deal will be great for ESPN. Cheers to the future.' The deal, which will run for five years and is worth $1.6 billion, will allow ESPN to broadcast WWE events such as WrestleMania, SummerSlam and the Royal Rumble as part of its new direct-to-consumer service that launches later this month. 4 Triple-H and the WWE will be on ESPN programming. WWE via Getty Images 4 Norby Williamson Getty Images McAfee, who stepped back from his WWE commentator duties earlier this year due to his busy schedule, has previously had issues with ESPN executives, with him accusing Norby Williamson of trying to 'sabotage' his eponymous show in 2024. Williamson was the company's executive editor and head of event and studio production. McAfee went hard after Williamson, who left ESPN in January, on multiple occasions, even saying 'I don't got a motherf–king boss' last February. ESPN and McAfee have been business partners since September 2023, when the former NFL punter inked a five-year $85 million deal.
