Time of Indiaa day ago

Surat: A middle-aged woman was kidnapped and beaten unconscious in the Pal area of the city by seven men and four women — relatives of the woman her son married and eloped with.
The victim's younger sister, Asha Makwana (44), filed an FIR at Pal police station against the eleven accused persons for kidnapping, assault and criminal intimidation.
Makwana said her elder sister, Sumita, lives with her two sons and daughter. Sumita's son, Aniket (23), married Naina Od in court on June 1, 2024. After staying at their own houses for a few months, the two eloped and began living together.
They presented themselves at Rander police station on May 28, declaring that they were married and would live together. After that, Naina began staying at Aniket's house.
On June 10, Sumita's son Vansh called Makwana saying his mother had been kidnapped in a car from near Care and Cure Hospital on Gaurav Path.
Another relative, who lives in Ambikanagar Society, called to say that Sumita was being assaulted by members of Naina's family.
Makwana rushed to the spot with some relatives and found the accused assaulting Sumita. They included Naina's relatives Rajesh, Jagdish, Dipak, Jatin, Nikhil, Sahil, Shubham, Urmila, Usha, Rekha and Vasanti. Makwana said Jatin and Nikhil were hitting Sumita with sticks while Rajesh was using a plastic pipe.
She added that the women were hitting Sumita in her private parts. Vasanti was screaming that Sumita would be burned with kerosene.
After Makwana called 181 and 108, paramedics arrived and took an unconscious Sumita to hospital.
Pal police inspector K L Gaadhe told TOI: "We have arrested the seven men; they are between 18 and 48 years old. We have booked them for kidnapping, criminal intimidation and other offences under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 140 (4), 189 (2), 190, 351 (3) and 54 and Section 135 of the Gujarat Police Act. We are investigating what prompted them to kidnap the victim. We will also call Aniket and Naina for their statements.

Minor found murdered in Dehu Road, cousin injured

1 2 3 Pune: The Dehu Road police are searching for a man who is on the run after stabbing a 16-year-old youth to death and assaulting the victim's 14-year-old cousin. The incident happened late on Wednesday night on an open plot near Sainathnagar. The victim's body was found in a forest area near Thomas Colony in Dehu Road in the early hours of Thursday. "The victim's cousin, who sustained a stab injury to his stomach, is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Dehu Road area," senior police inspector Vikram Bansode of the Dehu Road police told TOI. Bansode said, "Prima facie investigations revealed that the murder was the fallout of a dispute over the victim's relationship with a girl. We have fanned three teams to trace the suspect." The officer said that the victim just passed his SSC examination and was helping his father in their bakery business. "For the last few months, the youth was in a relationship with a girl from the Somatane Phata area. The suspect, who is the girl's friend, was against this relationship. A few months ago, he had heated arguments with the victim over the same issue," the officer said. Bansode said that on Wednesday around 10pm, the youth left home after receiving a call from the suspect. He went to an open plot near Sainathnagar. "The duo entered into a dispute over the girl, following which the victim called his cousin and told him to come there," Bansode said. He said that the victim's cousin told the police that when he reached there, he saw his brother and the suspect having heated arguments. The suspect suddenly stabbed the victim with a knife. When the cousin tried to intervene, the suspect stabbed him too. "The cousin then fled from there and alerted his friends and family members. His friends admitted him to a hospital and alerted the police," he said. Bansode said that the police rushed to the spot but found nothing there. "Our 50 men carried out searches through the night in the forest area and found the victim's body in the early hours of Thursday. He had injuries on his throat and stomach," Bansode said. The police have found a knife and a mobile handset at the spot. "Investigations so far revealed that the suspect hails from Gopalganj district in Bihar. He earlier used to stay at Chikhali and worked in a private company. We will soon arrest him," Bansode said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Two operatives of a trans-border narco-terror network, hiding in Zirakpur, were arrested following a tip-off. The accused have been identified as Paraspreet Singh alias Paras and Gurwinder Singh, both hailing from Rajoke village in Tarn Taran. They were living in a rented accommodation in Zirakpur after fleeing their native village to avoid arrest. Ravjot Grewal, AIG State Special Operation Cell, SAS Nagar, said that acting on a tip-off, the duo was kept under surveillance and arrested from Patiala Road, Zirakpur on June 10. Police recovered a Glock 9mm pistol, three magazines and 207 gm heroin from their rented accommodation in Badal Colony, Zirakpur. Jewellery group accused of 1,000cr fraud across state

Thiruvananthapuram: The Fort Police have registered eight cases against the owner of a prominent jewellery group in Thiruvananthapuram for allegedly defrauding thousands of customers by offering gold at discounted rates through misleading investment schemes. According to the complaints, customers were lured with promises of gold ornaments at reduced prices and no making charges if they booked gold in advance under various schemes. However, after payments were made, the promised deliveries were repeatedly delayed or never fulfilled. One such victim, Kiran R from Vattiyoorkavu, paid Rs 5.16 lakh on Jan 8, 2025, for 80 grams of gold. He was promised delivery by Feb 1. Despite repeated follow-ups, Kiran did not receive the gold or a refund and finally lodged a police complaint after waiting over five months. Similar complaints have emerged from across and beyond the district, with police estimating that over 2,000 people may have been duped. Investigations suggest that the scam could amount to nearly Rs 1,000 crore, allegedly executed through 40 branches between Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad. The company reportedly employed a network of agents, offering them a 10% commission to attract investors statewide. "We've registered cases under Sections 316(4) for criminal breach of trust and 318(2) for cheating under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," said the police. "The investigation is focused on collecting contracts, transaction records and other key evidence." The chief minister's office and the state police chief have also received petitions regarding the fraud. Authorities expect the number of complaints to rise as more victims come forward daily.
