Katherine Legge's long-awaited NASCAR Cup Series debut in Mexico City went slightly askew when the extreme heat in her cockpit melted the sole of her racing shoe. Legge was running in the top 20 in her first NASCAR race at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on Sunday when the unusual mishap occurred, forcing her to hit the brakes.
She eventually finished 32nd, five laps behind the race winner.
Extreme heat causes Katherine Legge's unusual pedal box malfunction
During this race, the constant hammering heat in the 2.7-mile road course caused Legge's shoe sole to start melting and adhere to the throttle pedal. Radio transmissions between her and the pit crew showed how serious the problem was, with Legge saying her shoe was 'literally fused to the pedal.'

Her team thought the lack of insulation around the pedal box deformed the rubber sole.
The crew successfully helped her get the foot free at some point during the race, but she lost time and had compromised control of the car as a result.
Katherine Legge's return to the Cup Series and future races
It was Katherine Legge's second start of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series, the first being in Phoenix earlier this season, where she finished in 30th place. Having had a successful career in open wheel and a more recent venture into sports cars, the 44-year-old has had the backing of e.l.f.,

However, it's still not all doom and gloom with Legge. She noted in a post-race statement that moving into NASCAR had not been easy, and it was 'one of the hardest championships to chase in the world.'
Team owner BJ McLeod said the same thing, noting the massive undertaking of the Gen-7 stock cars.
Looking ahead despite the setback
While Legge was disappointed that she came in the 32nd position, she will continue her Cup Series as per the schedule. This includes races in Chicago, Sonoma, Watkins Glen, and Richmond, which will be tough tracks. Thanks to her resilience and a stout lineup of sponsors, Legge will continue to learn as much as possible from each race and refine her stock-car driving craft.
A random glitch could have spoiled her weekend in Mexico City, but she seems determined to push to the absolute limit. It will be interesting to see how she develops into a contender in NASCAR's road course races as she accumulates more seat time.

'It was really hard': Tom Brady opens up about Gisele Bündchen split after mocking her on TV, blames himself for their divorce
Tom Brady has reflected on the emotional challenges of his divorce from Gisele Bündchen (Getty Images) Tom Brady may have stepped off the NFL field, but his personal life continues to make headlines. In a recent candid conversation, the former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback opened up about the emotional toll of his divorce from Gisele Bündchen and the unintended consequences of a joke made at her expense. Tom Brady reflects on life lessons from divorce and family Tom Brady, who now serves as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, has gradually embraced a more reflective tone when discussing his split with Gisele Bündchen. 'Not everyone is perfect,' he said during a recent interview, emphasizing that many people aren't equipped early in life to manage the complexities of family. 'It's all about having a clear purpose in life and improving little by little,' he added. That introspective approach comes in the wake of years of scrutiny over his marriage and career choices—especially his decision to return to football in 2020 after briefly retiring. That move, which saw him join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reignited questions about his priorities. 'She didn't feel like I was doing my part for the family. She thought I'd play the whole season, and she'd take care of the house,' Brady admitted, acknowledging the imbalance that may have led to growing tension at home. Regret over Gisele Bündchen joke during Netflix roast One moment that clearly still weighs on Brady is his participation in The Roast of Tom Brady on Netflix. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo While the quarterback appeared to take the jokes in stride during the show, including a jab from comedian Nikki Glaser—'You have seven rings... well, eight now that Gisele gave hers back'—Brady has since revealed the aftermath wasn't so humorous for his family. 'It was hard for my kids, for sure... You don't know what to expect, and I love to laugh at myself... but for my kids, it was really hard,' Brady said in a May appearance on the Impaulsive podcast. Brady has long admitted that his devotion to football shaped every decision in his adult life. 'I always felt that way when I stepped onto the field. So many people dedicated their time and energy to me and our team, and I never wanted to let them down,' he said. That mindset, however, may have come at a personal cost—a truth Brady now seems ready to accept as he enters a new chapter post-retirement. Tom Brady once choked up as he admitted he wasn't as good a father as his own dad: "When I think about being a dad..."
Throwback to when Tom Brady's voice cracked as he recalled how his dad shaped his life (Getty Images) For all his accolades on the football field—seven Super Bowl titles, a two-decade reign as the NFL 's most feared quarterback, and a legacy unmatched in modern sports—Tom Brady continues to credit his biggest victories to someone much closer to home: his father, Tom Brady Sr. Tom Brady gets candid about fatherhood, his hero, and the lessons he hopes to pass on Despite achieving unparalleled success with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and landing a massive $375 million contract with Fox Sports after retirement, Brady often steers the conversation away from himself. When asked who he admires most, the answer has remained consistent throughout the years. 'I think my dad is my hero, because he's somebody I look up to every day,' Brady once said, holding back tears in an emotional Father's Day clip shared by Fox. Brady's tribute to his father isn't just reserved for interviews. On Father's Day, he posted a heartfelt message on Instagram alongside photos of his parents and his children. 'Happy Father's Day to my dad who taught me everything about what it means to be a father,' he wrote. 'And to all the dads out there that who are great role models to their kids.' In his eyes, Tom Brady Sr. wasn't just a supportive father—he was the blueprint for how to live with purpose. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo 'My dad has always been my biggest supporter, my best friend, and my No. 1 teacher not just in sports but in life," Brady shared. "The values he passed on to our family — hard work, integrity, compassion, and unconditional love, shaped me in every way." Even years after stepping off the field, Brady's reflections on fatherhood continue to strike a deeply personal chord. In a 2022 interview with ESPN, he became visibly emotional while discussing how he tries to emulate his father in raising his own three children. 'When I think about being a dad, I think about him. Because of what my dad meant to me," he said. 'I know I'm not as good as dad to my kids that my dad's been to me. ' Brady's goal is not to mold his children into future NFL stars, but to guide them in becoming compassionate, respectful, and fulfilled individuals. 'We want our kids to be happy, I want them to be respectful to people, and I want them to be kind and make the world a better place,' he emphasized. Although Brady famously used his sixth-round draft snub as motivation to fuel his historic NFL journey, he hopes his kids won't inherit the same all-consuming drive. 'What I really want for them is to find something they love like I have,' he said. 'But I have taken it to an extreme too… there are imbalances in my life and I hope they don't take things as far as I've taken them.' He concluded with a candid truth many parents can relate to: 'I want them to find great success in whatever they do but there's a torment in me that I don't wish upon them.' Brady may have retired from football, but in fatherhood, his most meaningful legacy is still unfolding. Nagpur's Divya Stuns China's World Women No.1 Hou Yifan
Nagpur: World Junior No.1, Divya Deshmukh, stunned the World Women's No.1 Hou Yifan of China, on Monday, and finished the World Team Rapid, Blitz Championship on a high with three medals. In the second leg of the semifinal round in the World Blitz Team Chess Championship, which concluded in London, the best women chess player Yifan faced off with her junior counterpart Divya, of Nagpur. The face-off between Yifan and Divya in the shortest format of chess had similarities to the classical game played recently between World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen and the youngest world champion D Gukesh. While Yifan was representing WR Chess Team, Divya was playing for Hexamind Chess Club in the shorter version of the World Team Championships, played in both the rapid and blitz formats. Though Yifan had defeated Divya in the first leg of the round-robin semifinal, Nagpur's chess queen came back stronger in the following leg. Divya utilised her opening advantage with the white pieces well and made her moves faster to take control of the clock. In the dying stage of the rook vs bishop endgame 74-move thriller, Yifan made a blunder with her king and was left with no option but to resign. Realising her mistake, Yifan offered the handshake, and Divya became a bit emotional — reacting as if in disbelief, happily surprised to register her first victory over the world's best women chess player. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Though there was no drama as such, considering the recent 'Oh My God' moment of Magnus Carlsen, when the world no. 1 was surprised by world chess champion D Gukesh, the game between Yifan and Divya saw an emotional reaction from the Nagpur girl. Without much drama, Yifan laughed at her mistake and left the arena. Divya closed her eyes for a moment, made small chat with the arbiters, looked at the other results of her teammates, and went to prepare for the next round. Of the eight games that the 2343 Elo Divya played in the blitz event, she registered victories in six rounds, drew a board, and lost just one game while performing at a rating as high as 2606. Divya's heroics in the fastest format helped her register second rank. Later, in the third-place playoff, Divya won both the rounds as Hexamind Chess Club defeated the squad of Uzbekistan in both matches with 3.5:2.5 to clinch the bronze medal. Earlier, in the rapid format of the world championship, Divya played a pivotal role and helped Team Hexamind to clinch the silver medal. Of the 12 games she played in the rapid format, the 2386 Elo Divya won five games, drew six rounds, and lost just one game to score eight points with a performance rating of 2420. She also won the individual bronze medal for her play on board 6. With the three medals that she won, Divya posted, "Finally, what seemed like an eternity is over, world rapid and blitz team championships! Team finished second in rapid and third in blitz. Had an amazing experience with the team."
