Texas A&M tight end preview: A&M has many new faces in the room, who will rise to the top?
Due to graduation and transfers, the Aggie coaching staff had to quickly bring in several tight ends to fill the depth chart. The only returning scholarship TE was Theo Melin Ohrstrom, who flashed at times last season but has areas he needs to improve. The addition of a few transfers and freshmen, Kiotti Armstrong, it's a deep room with a lot to prove.

Final Thoughts
Texas A&M's tight end room is rebuilt, not reloaded. Niblack brings flash, Ohrstrom brings familiarity, and Riley brings intrigue. It's a group with upside, but also uncertainty. If blocking improves and chemistry clicks, this unit could quietly become a strength in Elko's second season.

Cowboys might have legitimate backup plan to one of league's most expensive positions
It might not be unfolding how most thought it would. It might not have been under the most ideal conditions, either. It's definitely not the player everyone thought it would be, but the Dallas Cowboys might have finally found their Plan B to the all-important left tackle position. Nate Thomas, the forgotten rookie from the 2024 NFL draft class, has seemingly come from nowhere and laid early claim to the backup LT spot. With Tyler Guyton possibly missing regular season action, the backup title probably means Week 1 starting offensive lineman. Finding a capable Plan B at LT isn't just about injury replacement on this Cowboysteam. Until proven otherwise it's also an alternative solution should Plan A never come to fruition. Guyton struggled mightily in his first year with the Cowboys. The 2024 first rounder from Oklahoma looked every bit as raw as scouts pegged him to be as a prospect. And while the potential and skillset is high, the performance has a long way to go before it can even be considered average. Though Guyton showed improvement early on in training camp, a fracture to his right knee robbed him of much needed practice time and development. He may pick up right where he left off or he might take a step back and take time to reach a modest level of play. Since there's no telling how well Guyton will be playing when he returns in September, having a solid option to fall back on is extremely important. When training camp kicked off late last month, everyone thought Asim Richards would be the guy providing insurance. Richards was steadily working his way up the depth chart and he was an improving player with a wealth of LT experience. But as things unfolded, it quickly became apparent the Cowboys had different things in mind for their offensive line. They saw Richards as a versatile swing option with OL6 capability in jumbo formations. They saw Thomas as the next man up at LT. Early returns have been understandably mixed. Thomas struggled against the LA Rams' all-star D-line in practices, but he posted a solid game against their rotational players in the first preseason game. It would be unrealistic to think he'd be a plug and play talent as a seventh rounder with no NFL experience to his name, so that itself constitutes a major victory. Not to mention, the preseason is far from over and there's plenty of development that can happen between now and the start of the regular season. Plan Bs are never ideal but they are often necessary. There are a number of scenarios that could involve Thomas playing a critical role for Dallas in both the short-term and long-term. Ex-UNC quarterbacks meet for joint practice ahead of NFL preseason matchup
New England Patriots' Drake Maye and Minnesota Vikings' Sam Howell, two of the best QBs ever at UNC, will meet for a joint practice and preseason game this weekend. Two of the best to ever play the position at North Carolina are meeting up in joint practices this weekend ahead of a showdown between their two teams in Week 2 of the NFL preseason. Drake Maye of the New England Patriots and Sam Howell of the Minnesota Vikings are together again, like they were at UNC for a short time. The two quarterbacks started back-to-back careers at North Carolina all their way to the NFL. Howell came first and played at North Carolina from 2019-2021. He played in 37 games, totaling 1,117 yards and 92 touchdowns with 23 interceptions. His best year topped 3,500 yards through the air and 38 touchdowns. Following Howell in 2021, Drake Maye took over. Maye was the starter from 2022-2023, where he won the 2022 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and the overall Player of the Year as well. In total, Maye threw for 8,018 yards in those two seasons, totaling 63 touchdowns and just 16 interceptions. In his best season, he threw for 4,321 yards and 38 touchdowns. The Washington Commanders drafted Howell in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was the No. 144 overall pick. After being traded from the Commanders to the Seattle Seahawks, he has since signed with the Vikings as the backup to J.J. McCarthy. Maye, on the other hand, was the No. 3 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Patriots. According to an article written by Shelby Swanson of the Star Tribune, Howell had some mighty things to say about Maye at training camp last week. 'He's my best friend. He means a lot to me. We're going through a lot of the same things, and he's just a great friend. We challenge each other to make each other better in the offseason. ... He's like a brother.' The two will face off as the Patriots take on the Vikings at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 16th. Spartans bringing a better O-Line to the table this year per comment from position coach
Spartans assistant coach Jim Michalczik provided an optimistic report on his offensive line on Thursday One of the areas that could make or break the Spartans this year is the offensive line, and it sounds like things are looking pretty good there as we progress through fall preseason camp. The Spartans have a number of weapons at the skilled positions this year, but if you're offensive line isn't any good then it doesn't mean much. Good thing for Michigan State is that offensive line coach Jim Michalczik is confident in that bunch after the first few weeks of fall camp. He met with the local media on Thursday and expressed some strong confidence in his offensive line compared to the unit from a year ago, while noting there is still room for improvement as they approach the season. "We have a bunch of dudes that can play," Michalczik said during his media availability. "The fun thing with this camp is that every day the bar just got higher. Every day we have improved, (but) I still think we have a lot of improvement to go... We are so much further advanced in understanding the offense, understanding football. We are talking about things we never talked about last year. We have so much more of the offense in now so (I'm) optimistic, yeah, but still have a lot more work to do." Michalczik added that a number of starting spots are still up for grabs, and that they should get some decisions made out of Saturday's second fall camp scrimmage. This goes in line with a comment from head coach Jonathan Smith earlier this week where he stated there's roughly 10 guys in the mix for a starting spot after the first two weeks of fall camp. Michigan State has a few more weeks of fall camp remaining before they open the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan.
