Dept. Q star Chloe Pirrie says filming in her hometown let her reconnect with family
Her career to date has seen her travel the world, including a stint filming in Canada alongside Hollywood stars Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones. But Scots actress Chloe Pirrie, 37, insists she was more excited by the opportunity of shooting in her home town of Edinburgh for six months as it allowed her to reconnect with family. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, she is currently starring as prosecutor Merritt Lingard in Netflix crime drama Department Q. Discussing what it meant to be back in the city of her youth, Pirrie, who is known for her roles in The Queen's Gambit and The Crown, said: 'I've got family there that I hadn't seen for a while so it was great to be able to spend time with them. 'A family member came to set – I've never had that before. That kind of stuff is really special.' The actress also told how she and her Scottish co-stars proved themselves expert at delivering the expletives written in the script. She joked: 'We're just good at it. It's like a national sport.' Pirrie's co-stars on the new show include Downton Abbey's Matthew Goode, Harry Potter and Bridget Jones star Shirley Henderson, Trainspotting alumni Kelly Macdonald and Game of Thrones actress Kate Dickie. However, despite spending six months in Edinburgh, Pirrie revealed she didn't have time to let her hair down with them. Speaking on the red carpet at the show's premiere in London, she said: 'I didn't get to socialise with people as much as I probably would have liked because my schedule was so different to everyone else.' Based on a series of books by Danish writer Jussi Adler-Olsen, the series follows Goode's character DCI Carl Morck, who sets up a cold case unit while struggling with guilt over an incident that left a young police officer dead and another paralysed. As Goode's character brings his team together he is reluctantly paired with rookie assistant Akram Salim, played by Swedish actor Alexej Manvelov. And while Pirrie might have struggled to socialise, the same can't be said for Goode and Manvelov. In an interview to promote the show, Goode revealed that he and Manvelov hung out together as most of the home-grown cast decided not to stay in Edinburgh. He said: 'Most of the actors lived in Glasgow. It was only me and Alexej in Edinburgh.' Explaining how the pair bonded, he said he invited Manvelov to meet him at a French restaurant on their second day in the city. He added: 'We had lunch and were still there five hours later sort of six bottles of red wine down. If you become friends off-screen then it really helps on screen.'

Stranger Things season 5 - What fans can look forward to, plus five predictions
The latest series of Stranger Things is due to be released later this year, with everyone talking about the highly anticipated release, including some predictions on how the horror series will finally come to an end Although the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers, haven't given too much away about what will happen in season five, they have dropped some exciting hints. But what exactly can Stranger Things fans expect in season 5? It's been almost 10 years since Stranger Things first graced our TV screens back in July 2016 becoming a huge Netflix hit but the show will be back for its fifth - and final - season later this year. We don't yet have an official date for the release of season 5, but we do know that well-known faces Millie Bobby Brown, Sadie Sink, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, and Jamie Campbell Bower will all return for the last series. And while most details about Stranger Things season 5 have been kept under wraps so far, the creators have been teasing fans with a few clues about what they can expect. Though Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) has not been a huge character in the show so far, new Stranger Things set pictures have prompted audiences to speculate about her increased involvement. The pictures in question show Vecna standing near Holly, hinting that she could become integral to his final plan, according to Screen Rant. But perhaps even more interestingly, season 5, episode 2, is titled "The Vanishing of...", leading many long-time fans of the show to note the similarity to the season 1 disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) and speculate that the title could refer to Holly. If Stranger Things season 5 does see Holly become Vecna's next victim, Karen could become a much bigger character as she tries to find her daughter. And if the theories about Holly are correct, the Wheeler family may finally get more screen time and a bigger storyline. Producer Shawn Levy previously revealed that the Netflix series will bow out on a high with a more than satisfying conclusion. He told Total Film: "We don't want to be one of those shows that is flailing while it searches for a way to stick the landing … We really want to stick the landing". The show still has a lot of questions to answer - in particular how its main characters will finally defeat Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). Given that Stranger Things season 4 ended with Max (Sadie Sink) still in a coma and the Upside Down creeping into the real world, it seems likely that the group will face even more challenging circumstances than ever, Screen Rant adds. Meanwhile, fans have been coming up with their chilling predictions after a short video teaser was released ahead of the Netflix TUDUM event which takes place today, Saturday May 31. One Buzzfeed user predicts that Eddie comes back: "Kas died via bat bites, like Eddie, but was resurrected as a half-vampire to eventually defeat Vecna himself. He also wielded a sword and shield, like Eddie, and they thought Vecna was defeated until Will said that he still felt him JUST LIKE IN THE CAMPAIGN. "The Duffers don't add details like that for no reason. Plus, I'm just holding out hope that Eddie comes back somehow. I refuse to believe that they just left him in the Upside Down, but who knows." While another suggests: "Eleven will definitely have to sacrifice herself to destroy the Upside Down forever." A third thinks there will be a twist unveiled, predicting: "I read a theory that Vecna is actually Eleven's biological father, and I can't get it out of my head." Another Buzzfeed user suggests: "I think that Max is going to be used as some sort of go-between for Vecna and Eleven, either for communication or even used as a puppet for battle." Meanwhile, one fan predicts: "I could see those lost to the Upside Down (Barb, Chrissy, Billy, etc.) coming back in some sort of spirit form to help defeat the monsters in the final battle." Since the clip was released, fans have been scratching their heads over what it could mean. The clip is unclear but seems to feature several overlapping sounds, including banging and radio static waves. It also includes someone's voice, but it is hard to make out before the note "can't transcribe message" pops up. All we do know is that viewers can expect film-length episodes in the latest series as it concludes the fan favourite show, and that its creators say they won't be disappointed.

According to the streaming platform's website: "It is Netflix's biggest celebration of fandom and culture-defining storytelling — spotlighting movies, shows, stars and creators that fans around the world love." Dressed in a black lace outfit, teamed with elbow-length black gloves, she shared with viewers: "Hi little monsters. I just wrapped Copacabana. I'm headed to Singapore and then I'll see you at..." Lady Gaga then simply flashed the name of the event as she smiled to the camera. Speaking to HOLA! ahead of the event, Sofia told the publication: "It's been a really exciting process and a really collaborative one with Netflix, which is always how it goes with them." She added, "I was invited to host about a month and a half ago and immediately got on creative calls with ideas that I wanted to bring to life with them." She continued: "As a performer, I've been so lucky to perform on some of the biggest stages in the world… but every time I get to do something that's a little bit different than what I'm used to, it's always a little nerve-wracking.' Sofia explains she was immediately involved in rehearsals and script writing once she agreed to take part in the global event. Now, with just a few hours until the hotly anticipated live show, Sofia will be finalising her jaw-dropping outfits.
