Marvel Studios Delays ‘Avengers: Doomsday,' ‘Avengers: Secret Wars'
Marvel fans will have to wait a few extra months to see the upcoming onscreen assembly of superheroes. Marvel Studios and Disney have announced they are pushing back the release dates of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday has been moved back from May 1, 2026, to Dec. 18, 2026, while its follow-up will now arrive in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027 instead of May 7, 2027. Doomsday is currently in production in London and the delay will give directors Joe and Anthony Russo more time to complete the film.

Marvel Studios hasn't revealed much about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday, but they did unveil the cast list during a five-hour livestream event in March. It's an expansive list of actors and characters, too: Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, James Marsden as Cyclops, Paul Rudd as Ant Man, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Wyatt Russel as U.S. Agent, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Danny Ramirez as The Falcon, Winston Duke as M'Baku, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijin as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic.
Last summer, Marvel Studios confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom (despite his longtime character Iron Man dying in Avengers: Endgame). 'If we're going to bring Doctor Doom to the screen — he is one of the most complex characters, most entertaining characters in all of fiction,' Joe Russo explained at Comic Con 2024. 'If we're going to do this… then we are going to need the greatest actor in the world.' Downey Jr. added, 'Same mask, new task.'
The next Marvel Studios film to hit theaters will be The Fantastic Four: First Steps, out July 25. It will be audiences' first introduction to the new Fantastic Four — Pascal's Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby's Invisible Woman, Quinn's Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach's the Thing. It also stars Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as villain Galactus.

There are also a slew of newcomers for the sequel, including Bad Bunny, Gilmore's caddie, whom he just met and is breaking in during the tour championship. Eric André, Margaret Qualley, Martin Herlihy, Eminem, Post Malone, Travis Kelce, and Kevin Nealon are among the cavalcade of stars who make appearances in the new trailer for the film. Sandler teamed with his co-writer for the original, Tim Herlihy, to co-write the screenplay for the sequel. The Kyle Newacheck-directed film arrives via Netflix on July 25. Netflix later shared a short video of the cast asking a 'special' Magic 8 Ball about the forthcoming season. In a joint interview with Rolling Stone after the Season 1 premiere, Brody and Bell discussed the series and why they wanted to bring back the rom-com. 'Rom-coms leaned into simplicity for a while, and the reason I liked this one is there are some very complex issues at play that do harken back to Romeo and Juliet, where you want them so badly to be together, you want the world to disappear for them,' Bell said. 'I liked the real-life complexity of a girl who doesn't really know how to have a good date because she's a self-sabotager [being] with a 'good boy,' where the world around him doesn't necessarily approve of this relationship, and then figuring out if and how they can make it work.' Brody added of his fan favorite character, 'I thought it was very charming, and I also liked the idea of playing a rabbi. Even though I've played Jewish characters before, I've never played somebody so faith-based. So to lean into that side of it, and something very different from my own personality, I thought would be interesting.' Lady Gaga performed to a record-breaking crowd Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, as an estimated 2.5 million people attended the singer's free concert on Copacabana Beach. The gig in Brazil marked the highest attended concert by a female artist in history, according to the singer's reps, eclipsing the 1.6 million people Madonna drew to the same venue last year.
