The Star24-06-2025
PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister has urged that the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UMS) students involved in the recent Gempur Rasuah 2.0 rally not be expelled, says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
"Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said they may have made a mistake but their future and studies are far more important and should be prioritised," the Higher Education Minister said in a Facebook post Tuesday (June 24).
Earlier, UMS vice-chancellor Kasim Mansor had said that 13 students from the university who were identified as having taken part in the rally could face disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion, under the Universities and University Colleges Act 2012. BN to focus on rural seats, PH on urban areas in Sabah polls

Published on: Sunday, August 17, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 17, 2025 Text Size: PONTIAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to concentrate on rural seats while Pakatan Harapan (PH) takes on urban constituencies in Sabah under a seat-sharing deal concluded for the upcoming state election, the New Straits Times reported on Sunday. Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan ( pic ) said the arrangement highlighted the strength of the BN-PH alliance and reflected a clear strategy ahead of the polls. He said the number of seats allocated to BN would be announced by party leaders, but confirmed that PH would contest in urban areas through either DAP or PKR while BN would focus on rural constituencies. The Pontian MP, who also heads Umno's central war room secretariat, added that preparations this time were more structured compared with the 2020 Sabah polls. Ahmad said he had already visited 20 party divisions in Sabah, with five more pending inspection as part of the early groundwork. On Saturday, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that the deal with PH was finalised without overlaps and stressed that no negotiations were held with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) out of respect for PH. The 16th Sabah assembly will dissolve automatically on Nov 11 unless dissolved earlier, paving the way for the state's 17th election, with Ahmad expressing confidence that the alliance's preparations and combined leadership would yield better results. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Time for an elite school in Keningau: Ex-Principal

Published on: Sunday, August 17, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 17, 2025 Text Size: KENINGAU: It is time to set up an elite school here, said former principal Gundohing Peter Paun. Peter, who was also a senior officer of the Sabah Education Department, said Keningau is the largest town in the interior region and is rapidly developing. 'Therefore, there is a need to build an elite school to accommodate intelligent, bright and selected students in an elite environment. 'With the establishment of this elite school, they will not have to leave Keningau, and all the best students from the interior can be gathered in the district,' he said. Peter, who is also a prospective candidate for KDM in Liawan, made these remarks after participating in a grassroots programme visiting several villages in the Liawan constituency, including the Keningau central market. 'This is what needs to be implemented in the Keningau area, alongside various other development agendas, if given the opportunity to become the representative for Liawan,' he added. Elite schools refer to institutions known for their excellence in academics and extra-curricular activities, often associated with better facilities and more comprehensive programmes. This term can also refer to fully residential schools (SBP) or cluster schools of excellence. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
