EastEnders' Shane Ritchie's bid for David Jason to join soap

EastEnders' Shane Ritchie's bid for David Jason to join soap

Appearing on The One Show, Ritchie, 61, who plays Alfie Moon in the BBC soap, spoke about EastEnders' award-winning streak at the British Soap Awards last week.
The cast were presented the award for Best Soap by none other than Only Fools and Horses legend Sir David Jason – and it would appear that Ritchie would love to get him to become a Walford resident.
Speaking on The One Show last night (June 11), Ritchie told hosts Alex Jones and Angellica Bell that he is 'trying' to get David Jason involved.
"Well, we got presented the award by David Jason, and now this is between us," Richie joked with fellow guest, Marvel star Jeremy Renner, and the hosts.
"Davis Jason, big famous actor, say nothing, I'm trying to get him into EastEnders," Richie continued.
He jokingly turned to the camera and said: "Turn over, watch something else, you don't want to see this," before adding: "I'm trying to get him into it."
When Bell asked him whether he had spoken to Jason about it, Richie said: "I don't know yet! I might take him out for a beer."
It appears that Shane Ritchie would not be the only one who would love to see Sir David on the Square.
Fans were delighted that the 85-year-old presented the soap award to the EastEnders cast, taking to social media to sing his praises.
'Witnessing the David Jason presenting the award for best soap and then EastEnders winning might be one of the most surreal things I have ever experienced,' one person said on X.
'Sir David Jason announcing EastEnders for Best Soap?! My worlds have collided, and I can't cope,' another added.
Others tweeted: 'Dreaming that David Jason has joined #EastEnders' and 'David Jason would be brilliant in #EastEnders!"
During The Only Fools and Horses Story – a TV special that aired in 2021 to mark the 40th anniversary of the sitcom – Sir David suggested how EastEnders' Queen Vic could have been a "meeting place" to set the scene for more humour, like The Nag's Head.

David said: "What John [Sullivan] tried to tune into was a huge mixture of like real people are.
"They laugh, they cry. They take the mick out of each other. They go on trips together down the pub.
"One of the great things I think John (Sullivan) did, which I'm very pleased to say and I'd wished they perhaps taken note at EastEnders, is that the pub was the central meeting place and it's full of very, very amusing characters."
EastEnders airs on Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One.

BBC's The Gold viewers question if Charlie Miller existed

BBC's The Gold viewers question if Charlie Miller existed The second season of the BBC's The Gold is currently airing The second season of BBC's The Gold is currently airing, and viewers are once again curious about the line between fact and fiction. Each episode begins with a disclaimer stating: "The following is inspired by real events and the many theories that have surround the gold. "Some characters, elements and chronologies have been created or changed for dramatic purposes." ‌ The new series kicks off with South London gangster Charlie Miller, portrayed by Sam Spruell, concealing the gold in an abandoned tin mine in Cornwall. He later enlists the help of shady lawyer Douglas Baxter, played by Joshua McGuire, to launder the proceeds from the remaining half of the Brink's-Mat loot, reports the Express. ‌ Here's an examination of whether Charlie Miller is based on a real person. Sam Spruell reprises his role as Charlie Miller in The Gold season 2 (Image: BBC ) Is Charlie Miller from BBC's The Gold a real person? No, Charlie Miller is a fictional character created for the series. Article continues below Actor Sam Spruell sheds light on the character, explaining: "Charlie Miller is an amalgam of various alleged southeast London criminals involved in the Brink's-Mat robbery, he is no one specific. "You see Charlie really at the end of the first series as he's one of the Brink's-Mat robbers. "He ends up at the beginning of the second series in possession of half the gold. ‌ "Throughout the first series the police thought they were dealing with all the gold but actually there is another half that Charlie Miller kept for himself." The Gold's Charlie Miller who had the other half of the Brink's-Mat loot (Image: BBC ) In the first season, Charlie enjoyed a carefree life under the sun with his initial share of the proceeds but had to return to the UK for the rest after his money ran dry. ‌ Spruell remarked about his character: "Through his criminal network in South London, of which Charlie has been a part of for years, he discovers the presence of Baxter who is cleaning small amounts of money for establishments like pubs and other places like that in south London." He pointed out: "Charlie sees this guy with his Cambridge education as the right man to clean a very large amount of money that he is going to make from getting rid of this gold." Charlie Miller was depicted as hiding the gold down an old tin mine in Cornwall (Image: BBC ) ‌ Spruell continued: "Baxter is the initial point man for that but in the end, it takes someone with Logan Campbell's clout to put that back into the financial situation in terms of investments in all kinds of stuff, whether it be fossil fuels, a new business venture or housing companies, for example." Discussing Charlie's journey in the second season, Spruell conveyed that Charlie harboured "aspirations" to transform into a "more legitimate businessman". Regarding the curious use of a Cornish tin mine as a hiding place for the Brink's-Mat gold in the series, Neil Forsyth, the show's maker, revealed that the idea stemmed from a hypothesis put forward in a feature by the Evening Standard in the 1980s. Wynne Evans shares full apology video which he claims BBC 'cut short'

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Wynne Evans has shared a full apology video from Strictly Come Dancing which he claims the BBC ordered him to cut short. The Welsh opera singer, 53, was fired from the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour earlier this year, and recently dropped from his BBC Radio Wales rolling contract after a string of controversies. This week, he insisted during an interview with This Morning that an apology he and Katya Jones shared during last year's Strictly series was originally meant to be longer. The singer and his professional dance partner sparked controversy when she appeared to move his hand from her waist, which he said was 'just a body language experiment that was picked up on'. He added on This Morning: 'Katya said to me, 'Put your hand on my waist, I'll move it back, we'll see if anybody picks it up [on social media],' and boy did they pick it up.' The pair shared a brief apology video at the time, but he has now shared a different version which is 50 seconds long instead of the 10 second clip that got published. 'Hello everyone. We felt the need to clarify something,' Katya said at the start of the longer backstage video. 'We find it quite fascinating how people take time to look into in such detail every gesture, every look.' Wynne added: 'So we thought we'll mess around. And we said, 'Oh I'll put my hand on your waist, you pretend to move it away and let's see who notices it.' 'And now everybody thinks I'm a weirdo. But really I promise you I'm not. And we're doing this high ten thing as well where she blanks me from a high ten.' The pair insisted it was 'all sort of planned just to see if anybody notices', while Katya said they wanted to 'clarify that it's all just messing around'. 'He's not a creep,' she added. 'But he's a brilliant dancer.' Wynne captioned the newly shared clip: 'The video that was too long for @bbcstrictly @bbccymruwales I think this tells it as it was.' However, the BBC has insisted 'all parties agreed' that the shorter version was the best way forward. A spokesperson told The Sun: 'For the avoidance of doubt, the video in question was filmed twice and all parties agreed at the time that the second more concise version would be better suited for social media.' On This Morning, Wynne admitted he can 'totally understand' how people were confused and 'upset' by the stunt. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video He said: 'I don't want to sit here today, coming across as a victim because I'm not. I totally understand why people were upset by that and I get it.' However, he argued that the decision to only share a 10-second apology was still 'the wrong decision'. Earlier this year, Wynne was sensationally dumped from the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour over comments he made involving host Janette Manrara. The 'unacceptable' joke referenced having a threesome with the dancer, 41. Soon after he apologised, saying he was 'deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate action caused' and would take a break from the public eye for 'self-reflection' and to 'prioritise my wellbeing'. More Trending And the BBC later decided not to renew his one-year rolling BBC Radio contract following a four-month investigation. He confirmed in an Instagram statement: 'It breaks my heart to say the BBC has decided not to renew my contract, so I won't be returning to my radio show. I'm gutted. 'That show wasn't just work — it was home. It was us. We laughed, we cried, we sang like nobody was listening. And somehow, through the airwaves, we became a family.'
