Travelers need to upgrade to REAL ID for an enhanced driver's license from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport now accepting Apple Wallet for TSA ID check
While the transition varies from state to state, in Ohio the REAL ID will have a star on the upper right side of the card.
'Our mission is to protect our nation's transportation security system. Make sure our passengers are getting where they're going safely,' TSA regional spokesperson Jessica Mayle told FOX 8.
Some jet setters we spoke with at the airport Monday said they were already prepared, getting a REAL ID years ago.
Obtaining a compliant card requires more documentation than the standard card. You'll need documents to provide your full legal name, date of birth, legal presence in the U.S., social security umber and the two documents for proof of Ohio residency.
Before leaving the BMV your current drivers license will be perforated on the upper left side to visually indicate the license is in process.

Mayle said that card would be accepted to board a flight, as well as a passport, during the transition.
TSA also says expect some delays if you're not in compliance, as additional screening may be required.
'So you might be able to fly and make it through the checkpoint, but definitely you want to give yourself extra time if you're going to the checkpoint without a REAL ID after the deadline,' Mayle said.
TSA said extra agents and officers will be on hand to handle the crowds during their busiest travel times.
Congress passed the law back in 2005, after Sept. 11, but it is finally moving into place next month.

Forgot your driver's license of passport but trying to travel at an airport? You might soon be able to choose facial recognition identification instead. The Transportation Security Administration has pioneered a pilot facial recognition identification program, and four major airlines have now joined it. They are Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and American Airlines, according to Aviation Week. TSA Has Rolled Out the Pilot Program in Summer 2025 at 14 Airports According to Aviation Week, the pilot program is occurring for the first time this summer at 14 airports. Passengers must have an "active profile" with the airline they are flying with to participate. Passengers also "must already be members of TSA's trusted traveler PreCheck program and upload valid passport information to an airline profile," Aviation Week reported. If they do so, they don't need to have an ID in hand to get through security if they pass the facial comparison technology. The latest airport to join the TSA's "PreCheck Touchless ID program" is Denver International Airport, which "opened two security screening lanes in which eligible passengers can move through checkpoints using biometric facial recognition as their sole form of identification," the publication noted. "Identity verification is foundational to the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) risk-based approach to transportation security by verifying each traveler receives the appropriate level of risk-based screening," TSA explains. "TSA strives to enhance security effectiveness and improve operational efficiency, while creating an enhanced traveler experience and strengthening privacy." TSA "introduced facial comparison technology into the screening process at select airports. The facial comparison technology represents a significant security enhancement and improves traveler convenience," TSA added. "A traveler may voluntarily agree to use their face to verify their identity during the screening process by presenting their physical identification or passport," the agency noted. "The facial comparison technology TSA uses helps ensure the person standing at the checkpoint is the same person pictured on the identification document (ID) credential. Photos are not stored or saved after a positive ID match has been made, except in a limited testing environment for evaluation of the effectiveness of the technology." Added TSA: "TSA is grounding its exploration of facial comparison solutions in rigorous scientific study and analysis to include alignment with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards and applies stringent safeguards for traveler privacy and convenience" The agency noted: "TSA is currently updating CAT-2 screens with clear language that notifies travelers they may decline having their photo taken. TSA also has signage posted at the checkpoint indicating that the technology is optional and travelers may decline having their photo taken. Orlando International Launches Dedicated TSA Family Lanes to Ease Travel With Kids
If you take a look around, you will find strollers, little luggage and stuffed animals. Orlando International Airport is full of families. 'Kids want to go on trips, kids want to see Disney World,' said visitor Tatiana Terry. That is how the story usually goes for many: fun at the parks, frustration at the airport. 'We come every year, and so we're excited to go through the family lane this year, because we've never had an easy travel out of MCO before,' Terry said. But today was different for her group. They went through TSA's new dedicated family lanes. 'It's really an option for those traveling with children, 12 and under,' said Michael Silata, Assistant Federal Security Director for MCO. Silata says the new lanes benefit everyone. 'For the other travelers, it actually helps out the other lanes, because it helps to decongest those lanes. So, for example, like the larger items of the strollers and so on in those lanes,' he explained. Over the busy summer months, Orlando International's average wait time has been hovering around 10 minutes. With these new lanes, the hope is that it moves even faster, family or not. 'I feel like, not saying that they do, I'm slowing them down, because I'm like ok come on gotta get your backpacks off and put them in the bucket,' said visitor Connie Fulton. You will find the family lanes at all security checkpoints across Orlando International. Launching the lanes here was a natural choice given the number of families. Airport staff believe MCO processes more car seats and baby strollers than any other airport in the world. 'With two kids it is hard, it is very hard,' Fulton added. Right now, the lanes are also available at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii. Under this new program, families will also be eligible for discounted TSA PreCheck. This new program is part of TSA's push to modernize travel.
