9 Takeaways from Jaguars' Week 2 of preseason unofficial depth chart vs. Saints

Yahooa day ago
The Jacksonville Jaguars have released their second unofficial depth chart ahead of the team's Week 2 preseason matchup on the road with the New Orleans Saints.
Compared to the Week 1 unofficial depth chart, no real changes have been made, other than cornerback Levi Wallace no longer being listed after he was placed on the reserve/injured list.
I also want to point out that when it comes to unofficial depth charts, especially in the preseason, take it all with a grain of salt. While there may be a few noteworthy items, this isn't the be-all, end-all by any means when it comes to where things stand.
Below is the Jaguars' unofficial depth chart on both offense and defense, along with a few quick thoughts, given what we've learned over the last week or so.
Jaguars' Week 2 unofficial depth chart and takeaways
- With Anton Harrison out during Monday's practice, it was Edoga who got the starting right guard snaps while Mekari played right tackle. There is very much a competition taking place there. Whoever loses out, could end up pushing Harrison at right tackle.
- Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby are listed as the two starters at running back, which checks out given how first-team reps have been handled in most practices. Etienne also seems to be getting more of those opportunities in comparison to Bigsby lately.
- Trenton Irwin and Josh Cephus seemed to have separated themselves for those fifth and sixth receiver spots on the depth chart.
- Hunter Long and Johnny Mundt are both listed as the backup tight end behind Brenton Strange. While a well-rounded skill set is always valued, my guess is that the better blocker sees more snaps.
- Kiser and Muma are each listed as the backup behind Oluokun. Both saw extended action in the preseason opener on defense, while Kiser saw way more snaps on special teams. If Kiser beats out Muma, I'm not sure there is room for Muma on the roster at a crowded position.
- Also at linebacker, Dennis Gardeck and Yasir Abduallah are competing for the third linebacker role when the Jaguars are in their base look. Given how the coaching staff raves about Gardeck, my guess is he wins the job.
- The safety competition seems to still be somewhat wide open with Wingard, Savage, and Johnson all competing for the snaps next to Murray. I have a feeling, however, that Wingard has the upper hand right now.
- Travis Hunter is listed as a starting receiver and is competing with Jarrian Jones for the third starting cornerback role with Montaric Brown sidelined. Hunter's usage on defense could come down to making sure he's on the field during pass-heavy situations where his ball skills can be maximized.
- When it comes to that final potential cornerback spot on the 53-man roster, Prince is listed ahead of Braswell, but of note, during Monday's practice without Campbell, it was Braswell who got those reps with the ones.

Shedeur Sanders 'day-to-day' after suffering oblique strain, won't play Saturday against Eagles

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is "day-to-day after he suffered an oblique strain during Wednesday's joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The Browns also announced that Sanders will not practice Thursday, nor will he play Saturday when the two teams meet for a preseason game in Philadelphia. Sanders suffered the injury during warmups, according to ESPN, and underwent an MR to determine the severity. The team decided to hold Sanders out for the remainder of the session as the teams worked on 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. He stayed on the field for the rest of practice watching the Browns go through drills with the Eagles. With Sanders out, Kenny Pickett led the first team and rookie Dillon Gabriel headed up the second team during 7-on-7 drills. Joe Flacco worked with the starters in 11-on-11 drills, while Gabriel saw most of his action with the second team. The Browns have now seen three of their quarterbacks deal with injuries throughout training camp. Pickett missed three practices with a hamstring injury before returning to the field in a limited fashion. Gabriel has also dealt with a hamstring issue and is back working in team drills for a second straight day. After practice, Sanders talked with Eagles quarterback and reigning Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, who didn't reveal what the two discussed. Sanders started the Browns' preseason opener where he completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers.
