Celtics' Jaylen Brown discusses dealing with anxiety, depression: 'I've been to some very dark places'
Jaylen Brown will be in a different kind of spotlight heading into a new season — but when given the chance this week he turned that spotlight on an issue a lot of people are dealing with, mental health struggles. In an honest and candid interview with the School of Hard Knocks and posted on Instagram, Brown opened up about his struggles with mental health. 'I've dealt with anxiety, even depression. I've been to some very dark places. But I feel like those dark places have allowed my light to shine.' Brown joins a growing list of current and former players who have talked about their struggles with mental health as players. That includes DeMar DeRozan and Kevin Love, who have been at the forefront of the discussion. Brown was asked for his advice for people who feel like they are at rock bottom. 'I would say it's okay. Never let anyone break your spirit. Everybody is going to deal with adversity at some point... Even plants struggle to get sunlight.' Brown also credited his faith in helping him deal with issues. Brown's role with the Celtics will change this year. He is a four-time All-Star and NBA Finals MVP who was critical in helping the Celtics hang banner No. 18. However, with Jayson Tatum out for most or all of next season with a torn Achilles, Brown becomes the No. 1 option and the guy at the top of the scouting report, and that will be different. The Celtics, as currently constructed, will not be a contender next season, as management prioritizes saving money against the luxury tax with plans to retool and come back strong when Tatum returns at full strength in the 2026-27 season.

NBA analyst projects stunning shift for Boston Celtics in Eastern Conference
A drop-off is expected for the Celtics this season on the heels of Jayson Tatum's injury and several offseason departures creating a far different Boston roster. However, one NBA analyst sees a significant plunge looming for the 2024 NBA champions towards the bottom of the Eastern Conference. writer John Schuhmann put together his offseason East power rankings this week and projected Boston to finish 12th in the Eastern Conference behind teams such as the Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls. The main reason? A skepticism about the team's depth in the frontcourt after the departures of Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet and Al Horford. 'What talent remains in Boston is all on the perimeter,' Schuhmann wrote. 'As things stand, their bigs are Neemias Queta, Luka Garza and Xavier Tillman, with Niang probably set to play a lot of minutes at the four. That group is going to struggle matching up with the frontlines of the top six teams in these rankings. The Celtics could set another record for 3-point rate, creating high variance from game to game and quarter to quarter. But the quality of those looks will certainly go down without Jayson Tatum's creation and with opposing defenses able to help off of pieces of the rotation more than they could in years past.' The projection puts Boston only above deep lottery teams like the Hornets, Wizards and Nets in the East, putting Boston in range for a high lottery pick potentially. However, it's far different outlook from the betting odds consensus right now, which still pegs Boston as a East playoff team with an over/under win total of 42.5 for next season. Brad Stevens has made clear this offseason that the team plans on competing despite major losses from their title team. 'I never put a ceiling on any team,' Brad Stevens said in July. 'We were fortunate to have a number of teams there as we led up to this kind of window that were really fun, and that I thought never really cared about ceilings and had a chip on their shoulders. I expected this team will, too. The last time that Jaylen Brown was on a team that was doubted was a long time ago. The last time that Payton Pritchard's been on a team that was doubted -- he probably hasn't been. I mean, you go down the list, Derrick White and all these guys. I'm excited to see what this team has in store. I know Joe's excited.' The Celtics will open up training camp with their new-look roster in the first week of October. Should the Boston Celtics target Domantas Sabonis via trade?
The 2025 NBA offseason has seen the Boston Celtics endure a considerable talent drain at multiple positions. The loss of Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet and potentially Al Horford has left the franchise dangerously short of talent and depth across the front court. Luka Garza is the only notable front-court addition this summer. Losing Jrue Holiday also hurt, but at least Boston has the guard depth to help fill some of the void. Recently, a trade proposal that saw Boston send out Anfernee Simons, Sam Hauser, Georges Niang, Neemias Queta and two future first-round picks for Domantas Sabonis went viral. The fan base was split on whether that deal would be good business for the Celtics or whether that would be an overpay by the franchise. During a recent episode of the "Hold My Banner" podcast, hosts Adam Pellerin and Ountae Campbell discussed the trade proposal and whether they would make that trade if they were running the Celtics organization. The duo also shared some of the online fan reactions to the proposed deal, showing how split opinion was on the potential to add Sabonis to a core of Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, and, upon his return, Jayson Tatum.
