Oasis dedicate song to Ozzy Osbourne as they begin series of gigs in London
Just three songs into their much-anticipated appearance, he declared the crowd was 'f****** beautiful', having bowed to the sea of raised arms before him.
Liam and brother Noel played with their band for the first of seven nights at the stadium on Friday – with five shows over the next week and two more scheduled in September.
It was the first time they had appeared together onstage at the London venue since July 12 2009, when they performed during their Dig Out Your Soul tour.
Towards the end of the gig, they paid tribute to Osbourne.
Lead singer Liam said: 'I wanna dedicate this one to Ozzy Osbourne, rock 'n' roll star.'
The Black Sabbath star's death at the age of 76 was announced earlier this week.
Oasis superfans in bucket hats and branded T-shirts had packed the Tube en route to the gig from earlier in the day, with international accents denoting the band's worldwide popularity.
As with previous gigs Liam and Noel walked onstage hand in hand, opened with Hello and proceeded to belt out many of their classics including Some Might Say and Morning Glory.
The packed-out stadium was in full voice throughout and at one point Liam threw a tambourine into the jubilant crowd, while later positioning one on top of his head.
Despite pledging to concentrate on his vocals rather than talking – telling those gathered 'every time I open my mouth at these gigs I seem to get myself into a lot of trouble so I'm just going to do the singing' – Liam later engaged in some light football banter.
The well-known Manchester City fan appeared to poke fun at Arsenal fans in the crowd, joking about their position in the Premier league.
Phone camera torches lit up the stadium as darkness fell and crowd-pleasers Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova closed the gig.
At various points Noel thanked the crowd, with Liam telling them they had been 'amazing', ahead of fireworks erupting into the London sky.
Friday's show – the eighth of the tour – followed a five-night run of homecoming gigs in Manchester's Heaton Park and the two opening shows in Cardiff earlier this month.
Following the first part of their Wembley stint, the band will head up north to Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium followed by Dublin's Croke Park.
The group will head to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America later in the year.
Oasis announced their reunion tour in August of last year – 16 years after their dramatic split in 2009 which saw Noel quit following a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris.
While fans were excited at the Britpop band's reunion, many were left outraged after some standard tickets in the UK and Ireland jumped from £148 to £355.
The controversy prompted the Government and the UK's competition watchdog to pledge to look at the use of dynamic pricing.

Liam Gallagher's cheeky reference after being filmed outside portaloo by fan
At the height of Oasis' fame in the 90s and 00s, the rock band were known to be big party animals. Liam Gallagher made a cheeky drug reference to fans who spotted him heading to a backstage portaloo toilet at Oasis Live 25' reunion tour. Never one to shy away from the camera, the 52-year-old waved to get fans' attention after he seen them filming him while he was outside the toilet. Alluding to his wild younger years, the Oasis star then mimicked snorting cocaine multiple times before heading into the toilet. At the height of Oasis' fame in the 90s and 00s, the rock band were known to be big party animals with drink and drugs being a huge part of their rock and roll star status. The Gallagher brothers have since scaled it down with their antics with Liam previously admitting he had stopped drinking ahead of their reunion tour in order to 'get healthy'. However, getting healthy does not mean he's lost his sense of humour as fans praised his light hearted nature after the clip was posted on TikTok by user 1981quarterpounder, the Metro reports. In the comments, one social media user joked: "What mysterious activity is he suggesting to us" while another wrote: "Just Liam being Liam." A third penned: "Never change. Honestly made me laugh so much." Meanwhile, other people were concerned the Oasis star was 'setting a bad example' for younger fans, sparking debate about his 'sense of humour'. One disapproving person remarked: "A good example for the young generation". Another fan responded to this comment, saying: "Not his job to bring kids up properly. Fair enough if he was straight up encouraging it but he's not so". Other fans argued Liam could have simply been struggling with hayfever or a cold and was miming blowing his nose instead. One joked: "He's trying to say he's going to blow his nose as his hayfever is giving him some grief… what else could he be saying?" Another chimed in: "Poor Liam suffering from hay fever, must be bad constantly blowing your nose when your trying to perform." Liam often made headlines back in the day for his tendency to overindulge in drugs and destroy one or two hotel rooms in his wake. Meanwhile, his older brother Noel, 58, who was generally seen as more reserved. Liam developed a reputation of causing a riot at after parties with drink and drugs fuelling his antics. He once smashed up the studio they were recording in with a cricket bat, which also ended up being used by Noel to whack his sibling on the head. In their Supersonic biography, Michael Spencer Jones, the photographer behind Oasis' first three album covers, said a local repairman declared they hadn't seen damage like that 'since Ozzy Osbourne and Sabbath were recording [t]here.' Speaking of the (What's The Story) Morning Glory album launch party, Liam said: "As soon as a line went up my nose, I could have been anywhere, mate". Speaking to The Guardian in 2017, the Champagne Supernova singer shared: "There are a few of my mates that ain't here no more, through drugs. There are a few that are in the nick. "So I think I wouldn't have got a proper job because I'm not that clever with that stuff. So I'd have been digging or dead or really badly into drugs, which would obviously lead to being dead. "Rock 'n' roll saved my life. And I am forever in debt. I am forever in debt to rock 'n' roll, and I would never, ever think of doing another form of music. Ever."

The series has won a number of awards but lost more than a million viewers over its six-week run OFF AIR BBC axe drama after just one series in huge surprise to show's Oscar nominated creator who believed it could 'run & run' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) STEVEN KNIGHT is a man in demand, with a James Bond movie script to deliver and Oasis' tour documentary to oversee. So hopefully his busy diary will soften the blow of the news I can reveal that the BBC has axed his critically-acclaimed drama This Town after just one series. Steven saw it as his next massive hit after Peaky Blinders and felt it could run and run, in the same way the Brummie gangster epic did. He made no secret of wanting to film more episodes of This Town, commenting at the time the first series aired: 'I certainly have enough ideas for more episodes going forward. 'I hope we are with these characters for a long time to come.' But cancelling the drama, a BBC spokesman said: 'We're hugely grateful to Steven Knight and the cast and crew for bringing This Town to life — in no small part due to Steven's passion for the West Midlands. 'We look forward to working with him on new projects in the future and we're in talks about what's next.' This Town won the Royal Television Society Award for Limited Series and Single Drama earlier this year. But it lost more than a million viewers over its six-week run, having pulled in more than 3.2million for the first episode at the end of March last year. A BBC insider confirmed that Steven's busy schedule, which also includes writing ten-episode World War Two epic Roads To Freedom, was not a reason for the decision. Neither can the blame be placed on the cast, which included Michelle Dockery, not being available. Businesses brace for impact on trade ahead of sold-out Oasis shows
Edinburgh business owners are bracing themselves for the arrival of Oasis, who kick off their three sold-out shows at Murrayfield this weekend. Up to 210,000 fans are expected to descend on the city over the three shows beginning on Friday. For some, it's a business bonanza, but for others, disruptions in the area mean they will lose trade. Graeme, who has operated a car garage right beside Murrayfield stadium for 20 years, says the road closures in place mean he could lose thousands of pounds of business. STV News Graeme claims he won't make any money during the concerts. 'I'll be obviously shut, all of Friday, most of Tuesday, not back open until Wednesday', he told STV News. 'Then we've got AC/DC the following week. 'Obviously, I can't make money, but I've still got to pay my rent, still got to pay my wages, still got to pay all my bills. 'I won't make any money. I'm a small business and I've been here 20 years. I know the council has given the green light for more and more concerts.' The closures will impact several streets around the stadium, including the surrounding ones by Ali's Deli. He says the disruption will mean his customers may be impacted on the first date of the run. STV News Ali runs a deli by Murrayfield Stadium. 'It's a very busy day', he told STV News. 'People are still coming back from holidays in the meantime so, I think it's going to have a really bad effect on the business that day because people will not be able to access the area. 'However, as a business owner and manager, it is going to affect our delivery, even the rubbish collection on a Friday. 'Compared to the May concert, which was really busy. That was good. Here's hoping the day will be the same, but on Friday, I'm not sure. 'We will just see how it goes.' The local council has urged Oasis fans only travel to Murrayfield and the surrounding area if they have a ticket to the sold-out shows. They have also appealed to those attending to 'remember our residents'. Extra trains, trams and buses will be put in place to accommodate the crowds, while key areas surrounding Murrayfield will be tidied up after each show. City of Edinburgh Council Leader Cllr Jane Meagher, said: 'Excitement is building in Edinburgh for Oasis Live 25 as it's our turn to witness rock history. 'With all of our partners in the city we've been planning for this for some time to make sure we're ready to welcome thousands of Oasis fans over three nights. 'There will be extra trains, trams, and buses to accommodate concert goers, along with those attending our summer festivals. With this in mind, we urge you to plan ahead. 'We are keen for everyone to have an enjoyable experience, not only at the show, but on their way before and after. Whilst we relish hosting the biggest and best events and want everyone attending to truly enjoy themselves, it's important that we remember our residents. 'We ask that visitors are considerate and respectful of them whilst enjoying our fantastic capital city. We're urging people to only travel to Murrayfield and the surrounding area if you have a ticket.'
