NDA remains committed to build disaster-resilient India: Dharmendra Pradhan on Centre's approval funds for flood-affected states
Pradhan highlighted the government's commitment to supporting states in times of need. He emphasized that the PM Modi-led government is dedicated to building a disaster-resilient India.
In a post on X, Pradhan said, 'PM narendramodi ji's govt. stands shoulder to shoulder with States when they need the most. Approval of 1066.80 crore for flood, cloudburst and landslide affected States of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Kerala and Uttarakhand as a part of the central share under SDRF will bolster disaster preparedness and add more strength to rescue, relief, recovery, rebuilding and rehabilitation efforts. In addition logistic assistance, including deployment of requisite teams of NDRF, Army and Air Force is also being provided to complement disaster response. Under the leadership of PM Modi and stewardship of HM Shri AmitShah, the NDA govt. remains committed to build a disaster-resilient India.'
The Central government on Thursday approved the release of Rs 1,066.80 crore to the states of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Kerala, and Uttarakhand, which were affected by floods and landslides.Among the six flood affected states, Assam received Rs 375.60 crore, Manipur Rs 29.20 crore, Meghalaya Rs 30.40 crore, Mizoram Rs 22.80 crore, Kerala Rs 153.20 crore, and Uttarakhand Rs 455.60 crore, as Central share from State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), mentions a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) data.
'These states have been affected due to extremely heavy rainfall, floods and landslides during the south-west monsoon of this year,' said the MHA.
Highlighting the Centre's effort for the welfare of states, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said through a post on X handle that 'Modi govt stands resolutely beside the states in all situations.'
'...Today the central government has approved Rs 1066.80 crore for flood- and landslide-affected states of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Kerala, and Uttarakhand as part of the Central share under SDRF. More than Rs 8000 crore from SDRF/NDRF funds has been provided to 19 states this year. Apart from financial aid, providing all logistic assistance, including deployment of requisite NDRF, Army, and Air Force, has been our priority,' Shah mentioned.
This year, according to the MHA data, the Centre has already released Rs 6,166.00 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to 14 states and Rs 1,988.91 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 12 states. In addition, the data pointed out that Rs 726.20 crore released from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to five states and Rs 17.55 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) have also been released to two states.
'Central Government has also provided all logistic assistance, including deployment of requisite NDRF teams, Army teams and Air Force support to all the flood, landslides, and cloudburst affected States. During the ongoing monsoon, 104 teams of NDRF are deployed in the 21 states and Union Territories for rescue and relief operations,' It added. (ANI)

Madras high court stays OTP verification during DMK's 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' enrolment drive
Madras high court MADURAI: Madras high court on Monday ordered a limited interim injunction restraining DMK from sending OTP verification messages during the party's enrolment drive 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu'. The restraint order shall be in force until the issues of right to privacy and data protection are examined by the court in detail. A division bench of Justice S M Subramaniam and Justice A D Maria Clete, passed the interim orders on a PIL pertaining to DMK's 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu', which is a mass membership drive organised across the state by DMK. 'Digital membership drives conducted by the political parties in recent times are a new area of study, whereby there is a clear departure from the conventional modes of inducting party members. The bearing it has on the data privacy of the individual is a concern that has to be addressed. Hence, a clarity is required as to the means and infrastructure adopted by the political parties to collect, process and store data from the public. How this data is stored and processed and the implications on the right to privacy of the voter including the right to privacy of the political affiliation also ought to be examined," the judges observed. Hence, no force or coercion shall be employed in such membership drives conducted by the political parties, they said. The judges then directed the DMK to provide details on the data privacy policy employed in this membership campaign and ensure the security of the data collected and whether 'informed consent' is obtained from the individuals in this membership drive. It is also to be seen if other smaller or economically challenged political parties will be put in a disadvantageous position and will disturb the level playing field in the election thereby impacting Article 14 of the Constitution, the judges observed. Justice Maria Clete, in a separate order, observed that when a query was put forth as to whether any mechanism or designated authority exists to address violations under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the Centre responded that rules have been framed under the Act and that the authority concerned is the joint secretary. However, the Centre sought time to verify and respond on the specific operational aspects and the institutional framework under the Act. The judge observed that she agreed to the interim order particularly in light of the serious concerns relating to personal data protection and digital privacy. However, she made it clear that such relief is extended with circumspection, particularly in the absence of a counter-affidavit and without full knowledge of the programme's operational framework. She clarified that she did not agree with Justice Subramaniam's views pertaining to smaller or economically challenged political parties being put in a disadvantageous position. They were not immediately germane to the legal and factual matrix presently before the court, she said. The judges then ordered notice to the Centre, state and DMK and adjourned the hearing in the case by two weeks. The court passed the order while hearing a public interest litigation filed by S Rajkumar, a resident of T Athikarai village in Sivaganga district in Tamil Nadu.

Govt to pursue cases of Goans detained in US, says Sawant
Porvorim: Several Goans have been detained in the US over visa issues, and state govt must provide assistance to them at the earliest, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas said on Monday in the assembly. CM Pramod Sawant said any Goan families with members stuck in the US over visa issues should contact govt, and the issue would be pursued with Centre at the earliest. 'When cases come to the notice of the NRI commission and my office, we will help by following up with the embassy concerned,' said Sawant. Viegas said it is a grave situation concerning a number of individuals from India, including Goa, who were arrested and detained in jails and immigration detention centres in the US. These arrests are due to expired visas or lack of valid documentation.
