Lisa Wilkinson's pride as her son walks down the aisle with fellow journalist at intimate Sydney wedding

Daily Mail27-04-2025
could not wipe the smile of pride off her face as her eldest child married this weekend.
The television star's son, Jake, 30, married Sydney Morning Herald journalist Mary Ward in Sydney in a low-key wedding shared to social media by his younger sister.
In posts on Instagram made by journalist Billi, 26, Lisa beamed as she cuddled up to her daughter at the family event.
'The bestest weekend for the eldest brother' Billi wrote in her caption alongside the series of photos and short video.
Other images showed Jake and his blushing bride posing outside their wedding venue before heading into a relaxed reception.
A clip depicted the pair dancing into their reception holding hands as a small group of family and friends applauded.
Jake's father Peter FitzSimons also beamed in photos shared by Billi, the family appearing in excellent spirits despite recent hardships.
Lisa frocked up for the occasion in a bold red gown with a floral design and a retro feel.
Billi also looked glamorous in a bright orange, sleeveless column dress with a ruffled feature at the front.
She attended with her new boyfriend, finance whiz kid and former bartender Jared Ellison.
Groom Jake was smart in a classic tuxedo while his bride Mary opted for a high fashion wedding gown with a pointed bodice and fairytale sleeve puffs.
Mary is a seasoned journalist who has worked for the Sydney Morning Herald, HuffPost, MSN Australia, Good Food, The Daily Beast and The Age.
Jake is also active in the media as Editor of Commander's Herald, as well as a historical researcher with Woosel.
Lisa and broadcaster Peter, who married in 1992, share three adult children, sons Jake and Louis, 28 and daughter Billi.
The TV host previously expressed her joy in 'defying the people who said they wouldn't last' after she and Peter walked down the aisle in 1992 nine months after they first met.
'When Pete and I met way back at Xmas in 1991, there were many - including my sweet, protective mum - who said we wouldn't last,' she said in an Instagram post.
'[We] are still defying those who thought we wouldn't make it.'
Last year, it was revealed that Lisa's daughter is following in her parents' footsteps in the media, being appointed 'editor-in-chief' of social media news site The Daily Aus.
Billi FitzSimons announced the promotion after having previously been an editor.
'I'm looking forward to growing our diverse content offerings, including podcasting, polling, video and newsletters,' she wrote.
'We have big plans this year, and I can't wait for you to see what we have in store.'
The Daily Aus is a social media-based news aggregator with over 500,000 followers on Instagram.
It targets Gen Z and Millennials with easy-to-digest news stories and explainer articles.
'RAHHH!', her father Peter FitzSimons - the former rugby international turned writer - posted in response to the news.
Journalism runs in the family - Wilkinson started editing women's magazine Dolly at the age of 21, where she reportedly tripled the circulation.
After this impressive feat, she was personally approached by billionaire news magnate Kerry Packer to head up women's lifestyle magazine, Cleo.
Wilkinson went on to forge a successful career in television journalism, hosting the Today show and later becoming a panellist on The Project.
However, her career has stalled amidst the ongoing fallout of her controversial interview with former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins, and has not been seen on TV in some time.
While not be on the same scale as her mother, FitzSimons has had to deal with her fair share of turbulence since first landing the role as editor of The Daily Aus before her 25th birthday.
In June 2022, the website photoshopped the German flag on the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, rather than the Aboriginal flag, which also contains red, yellow and black.
Just a day later FitzSimons posted a job listing looking for a fact checker who has 'meticulous attention to detail'.
The youngster has been listed as one of Australia's 'nepo babies' given she is the offspring of journalistic royalty.
Her mother got FitzSimons her first job as a writer on news website Mamamia when she was still at university by calling in a favour with her old protégé Mia Freedman.
FitzSimons worked for Mamamia throughout university before landing a job as a political writer at the Daily Aus straight after graduating.
She gained a Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications), Government and International Relations, Digital Cultures from the University of Sydney in 2019.
But not everything has been handed to FitzSimons.
Her father previously revealed how she used to toil part-time at Domino's for four years from the age of 14 to earn money while at school.
It comes after news that Lisa wants to make a return to TV screens following months of inaction and tedious weeks spent in a courtroom, sources say.
The Channel 10 star and former darling of breakfast TV is keen to get back to delivering more 'blockbuster interviews' in the New Year, friends told the Weekend Australian.
Wilkinson quit The Project in November, 2022 and she hasn't appeared on TV in a regular role since.
Lisa also recently shared a cryptic post to social media revealing she was ready for 'new beginnings'.
After two years of gardening leave to the tune of $1.7million a year, her time at Channel Ten ended with a whimper over the Christmas holidays.
Her multi-year contract lapsed on New Year's Eve and wasn't renewed.
Lisa joined the network in 2018 after an infamous pay dispute at Nine when she discovered her Today co-host Karl Stefanovic was earning significantly more than her.
Everything was going well when she signed a new deal with Ten in 2021.
But just a year later, she stepped down as host of The Project—her sole on-air role—citing the toll of 'relentless, targeted' media coverage.
In the two years since vanishing from our screens, she continued to collect a monthly paycheck from Ten, commercial TV's forgotten child, despite industry-wide cutbacks.
Lisa has since since been slowly building back her public image, as the embattled TV star made quiet appearances at red carpet events in recent months, and last year showed up at a trendy influencer shindig.
She surprised guests at the launch of wellness brand Vegamour's new GRO+ Advanced Hair Serum at Bondi Icebergs, the Daily Telegraph reported.
It was the latest in a string of appearances in an effort for Lisa to 'ease back into the Sydney social scene' the publication claimed.

Inside Lucy Spraggan's marriage and X Factor judge who walked her down aisle

Lucy Spraggan has been roughing out the challenges of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins in the latest season. The former X Factor contestant gained the mass support of fans after openeing up about her sexual assault in 2012, and made us all wince when she tore her vulva on the show. Across the season she has also almost knocked a tooth out, fainted and landed face-first in the sea after attempting to jump from a helicopter into a boat. She was left with a black eye for her wedding day earlier this year when she tied the knot with Emilia Smith in a picturesque ceremony. They had been friends for more than a decade before their friendship blossomed into something more, and its been a whirlwind from there. Lucy and Emilia began dating in December 2023 after knowing each other for more than 10 years. They began dating after Lucy split with her ex-girlfriend, Evangelina. Emilia is a wedding and lifestyle photographer and, away from the camera, is a mental health advocate. Speaking to The Wedding Edition, Lucy said: 'We actually met more than a decade ago. She was going out with someone I knew, and we just became friends. 'We got really close over the last five or six years – I got sober in 2019 and that's when we started being more aligned.' She added that the couple had known for some time that they wanted to get married, and Lucy popped the question in March 2024. 'For the engagement, we realised quite early on that we wanted to get married to each other, so I organised a games night with all her family,' she continued. 'I made a Play-Doh ring and pretended to propose to her with that. She went 'Get down on your knee then!' and when I did, I actually had a proper ring.' Lucy wrote in an Instagram post after they got engaged: ''When you know you know'. That's the response we've heard the most over the last few weeks when Emilia & I have told our people that we are, in fact, getting married in June. 'That's a phrase I really thought I understood throughout my life, that I believed I had a full appreciation of but… It wasn't until I fell in love with my friend of 10 years that I truly felt it.' Lucy and Georgina tied the knot in June 2024, just months after getting engaged. Among the guests to see the couple tie the knot at Saltmarshe Hall, a historic country hotel in East Yorkshire, were Lauren, Ru Paul's Drag Race star Bimini Bon-Boulash, and Love Island star Adam Collard – not to mention Lucy's dog Steve dressed in a black bow tie. Emilia wore a stunning strapless white gown by Australian label Chosen by Kyha, while Lucy donned a crisp white suit from King & Allen. Lucy was walked down the aisle by former X-Factor judge Simon Cowell, whom she previously described as a surrogate parent to her. 'It was perfect,' Lucy said, talking about the big day. 'Simon and I were standing outside the door and my song started playing. I was already crying, and Simon definitely had a tear in his eye. I was linking arms with him but then I realised I was holding on to his arm. 'He kept saying, 'You're OK, you're all right'. Then when Emilia walked in with her dad I just sobbed,' she told Hello! magazine. Reflecting on the moment, Emilia also said Simon 'looked so proud'. Of being asked to walk Lucy down the aisle, Simon told the publication: 'I was very honoured to be asked to walk Lucy down the aisle. I considered it a very big deal. As soon as she asked me, I said yes. 'On the day I was actually quite nervous because l've never been asked before. And then very proud and happy and emotional. 'The best way of describing our relationship is that it feels like we've been friends for life.' Lucy was previously married to Georgina Gordon from 2016 to 2019. They began dating three years prior after meeting in a bar following Lucy's stint on The X-Factor. Lucy proposed to Georgina in 2015 during a romantic boat ride, telling OK! Magazine at the time: '[Georgina] didn't have a clue and she turned around and I was on one knee – it was amazing. 'I think I knew that she'd say yes, but it was still scary. 'I got a boat – she didn't know we were going on a boat, we went underneath Albert Bridge and her friends and family, her mum was on the bridge with all of her mates.' They tied the knot the following year, and in 2017, they announced they were trying for a baby. While undergoing fertility treatment, Lucy and Georgina became foster carers and welcomed 12 children into their home. In 2019, Lucy announced their split after 'six years of joy.' More Trending She wrote in a statement: 'It's with sadness to let you know that after nearly 6 years of joy, fun, and true love, Georgina and I have decided to part ways. 'We have shared the most amazing times and life together, and we are truly grateful for knowing love at its full capacity. 'We will continue on our paths as ultimate friends and dog Mums, united by the bond and memories we will always have. It was revealed last month that the Saturday Night Live star, 31, was to become a first-time father with his model and actress partner whom he has been romancing since the start of the year. In an appareance on The Breakfast Club, Pete discussed how the pregnancy had become headline news and how he "felt bad" that Elsie will have to deal with many things publically as a result of being attached to him. Pete was previously engaged to Ariana Grande in 2018 and was Kim Kardashian's first boyfriend after her messy split from long-time husband, Kanye West. Speaking to The Breakfast Club's hosts, Pete said: "I feel bad for my girl because I bring a lot of s***. "Anything I do or she does now is gonna be a thing. "She's a very private person and she's the one doing all the work. It's supposed to be a beautiful experience." Pete went on to say: "She's never made me feel this way or said anything but I feel so guilty and horrible that I could not allow her to have the ideal pregnancy that almost every woman gets to have and enjoy." Pete and Elsie were first linked in March of this year after they were spotted together in Miami. They could be seen packing on the PDA and were quick to make their relationship Instagram official just a week later - three months before confirming their pregnancy to the world. Pete Davidson admits 'I need to get out of my head' after Elsie Hewitt debuts bump ahead of stars welcoming baby Elsie has previously gushed over her love for Pete to People magazine in May when they made their red carpet debut with one another. She told the publication at the time: "He's so incredible. "Honestly, best person I've ever met, and I'm so grateful that he's here tonight." Elsie, 29, first announced the news on Instagram, cheekily captioning the post with "welp, now everyone knows we had sex." She included a sweet video of herself getting an ultrasound, with an accompanying ultrasound image, along with several loved up snaps of herself with the Saturday Night Live alum. A source close to Pete told The U.S. Sun that Elsie is due this winter. As an insider previously revealed to The U.S. Sun, the funnyman and the model/ foodie had both hoped to start a family together. "They've been living together for several months now, and while things seem to be moving fast from an outside perspective, Elsie sees a future with Pete and wants to take things with him to the next level," the insider said at the time. "She very much sees herself having a family with Pete. She loves the way their relationship is going and she envisions bringing children into that equation," the source claimed. They moved in together in a Brooklyn apartment just months after meeting. Pete was engaged to Ariana Grande for six months in 2018 before they split. He went on to enjoy brief romances with Kate Beckinsale, model Kaia Gerber and Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor, the daughter of Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor. Pete was then with Kim Kardashian for ten months between October 2021 and August 2022.
