Now, bus shelters inadequate at Mannarpuram, TVS Tollgate
Trichy: With more moffusil passengers relying on bus stops at TVS tollgate and Mannarpuram to leave or enter Trichy city instead of travelling to KKBT at Panjapur to catch their buses, the existing shelters have turned inadequate. New stoppages having cropped up at crucial road junctions, passengers have sought additional bus shelters and streamlining of halting points for mofussil buses leaving the city. More than 1,500 mofussil buses are operated from the newly commissioned Panjapur KKBT. However, daily commuters travelling to Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Pudukottai and Dindigul are using Mannarpuram and TVS tollgate stops to board these buses. Besides existing bus shelters, passengers have started using service roads of Trichy-Chennai NH to board and disembark from buses. At Mannarpuram, the service road connecting the NH with Trichy junction RoB's Chennai arm is being used to board mofussil buses to Manapparai. Buses are now stopping at a distance before the existing bus stops. "In recent rains, passengers were drenched as there was no shelter. As monsoon is fast approaching, new shelters are needed at Mannarpuram," Sakthivel Rengasamy, a commuter to Manapparai, said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This year's most comfortable shoes are a hit with the over-40 crowd Ultra-Comfortable Shoes Undo While city buses are halting at designated stops, mofussil buses pick up passengers on the service road. The practice chokes vehicles entering the city as free-left is blocked by the buses at Mannarpuram. As a solution, city police suggested developing new shelters near the starting point of the service road at Mannarpuram, to avoid buses blocking the free-left for other vehicles entering the city. At TVS tollgate, where passengers board buses to Pudukottai and Thanjavur, existing bus shelters have become inadequate too. District collector V Saravanan promised to look into the demands for new bus shelter. New traffic signal on cards at TVS Tollgate Trichy: City traffic police are planning to survey the entries and exits of TVS tollgate junction on Trichy-Chennai national highway where Trichy-Pudukottai national highway and multiple city roads converge. "We have requested a traffic signal system developer to survey TVS tollgate as we are unable to manually manage the vehicular movement. Buses criss-cross the junction frequently, especially after the commissioning of KKBT," a police source said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Roads crumble, craters surface in Noida after rain
Noida: Intermittent rainfall over the past few days has stalled repair work on the Mahamaya Flyover's expansion joints and left several key stretches pockmarked with rough patches and potholes. Officials now say that the project will now be finished by Aug 31. Meanwhile, key stretches from Kalindi Kunj to Sector 37 have developed fresh potholes, slowing traffic and increasing the risk of accidents. A speed breaker near the Botanical Garden metro station is also badly damaged, adding to commuter woes. In May this year, Noida Authority began repairing the Mahamaya Flyover's expansion joints and said the project would be completed within two months. Vijay Rawal, deputy general manager (Civil) at the Noida Authority, said, "The road sees heavy traffic during morning and evening hours. The traffic police do not allow the project work during peak hours. Therefore, the work has been delayed as we can only conduct it in the afternoon. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? The 450-metre-long flyover, built in 2006 to facilitate smooth vehicular movement between Noida and Delhi, has seen several rounds of repair and resurfacing over the years. However, this is the first time that all 36 expansion joints are being replaced. Govind Kumar, a resident of Kalindi Kunj, said that he frequently travels from Delhi to Noida via Kalindi Kunj. "Potholes are like hidden traps on the road, as people don't see them until it's too late. For two-wheeler riders, even a small jerk can throw them off balance and cause a serious accident. The officials must fix these potholes as soon as possible," he said. Rough patches have also been developed on the Sector 60 road that descends from the Noida Elevated Road. Many people traveling from Noida Sector 18 to 62 and Greater Noida West take this stretch daily. Noida Authority said the potholes will be identified and fixed once the monsoon rainfall is over. I-Day weekend flight fares to Goa touch 23k, Kochi 25k
Mumbai: The mid-Aug holidays—Independence Day, Janmasthami and Parsi New Year—have been spiking the demand for air travel for quite some years now, and the trend has stayed strong this time too. With Aug 15 falling on a Friday, the extended weekend holidayers seem to have booked their short trips as airfares to leisure and religious destinations have peaked for the coming weekend. The most noticeable change is on the Mumbai-Goa route. Airfares on the most popular non-metro destination out of Mumbai had cooled in the recent past with two airports in Goa offering travel options. But this year, if you want to fly out on Friday morning or noon to Goa and return by a noon or evening flight, you will have to shell out Rs 23,000. The cheapest fare on the route is Rs 15,000, but that would give you red-eye flights that depart or land around midnight. Last year, the cheapest 24-hour advance purchase fare to travel from Mumbai to Goa started at Rs 15,000, for convenient timings. In 2024, Aug 15 fell on a Thursday, but with Rakshabandan falling on Aug 19, in 2024, the mid-Aug long weekend stretched to five days. This year, the Aug 15 long weekend is only 3 days long. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? Here's what a microbiologist says CNA Read More Undo Leisure travel and religious tourism have peaked with fares to Kochi, Gaya, Ayodhya, Agra up. For instance, while the Mumbai-Kochi return fare is priced at Rs 12,000 for the Aug 22 weekend, it is Rs 25,000 for the Aug 15 weekend. A return ticket to fly non-stop from Mumbai to Kolkata starting at Rs 14,000 thus is a cheap option and so is a Rs 13,000 return for a Mumbai-Delhi flight. Rajesh Magow of MakeMyTrip said: "Independence Day has emerged as a key travel occasion over the years. This year too, the search and booking trends point to strong intent to travel over the Independence Day weekend. With Independence Day on a Friday, travel demand appears to be peaking two days earlier, on Wednesday, Aug 13, giving early travellers a 5-day window." Among the trending domestic cities are Goa, Udaipur, Jaipur, Puri, Lonavala, Varanasi, Coorg, Mahabaleshwar, Ooty, and Puducherry, he added. The first half of Aug is shaping up to be a peak travel window, with travellers opting for quick escapes. Rikant Pittie of EaseMyTrip said destinations such as Udaipur, Goa, Mysuru, Kerala and Hyderabad are trending. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
