Netflix just dropped the teaser trailer for The Diplomat Season 3, and the Oval Office has a new tenant with the arrival of Allison Janney.
Picking up right where Season 2's political chaos left off, the new season throws ambassador-turned-power player Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) into even deeper waters.
Last season ended with President Rayburn dying moments after Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) tells him that Vice President Grace Penn (Janney) may have orchestrated a terrorist attack on a British warship. Now that Rayburn is out of the picture, Penn isn't just under suspicion, she's in charge.
According to the official synopsis, 'Kate accusing Penn of hatching a terrorist plot and admitting she's after the vice president's job. But now the president is dead, Hal may have inadvertently killed him, and Penn is the leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal's campaign to land Kate the vice presidency.
'Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford).'
I love that Janney and Whitford are back together after their time together on The West Wing . The series also stars Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh. New faces include Celia Imrie, Michael McKean, Nana Mensah, and Miguel Sandoval.
The series was created by Debora Cahn, who continues to steer the ship. I've enjoyed this show and Season 3 looks like it's setting up the kind of slow-burn power struggle.
Season 3 lands this fall.

Trump set to attend first day of Iowa State Fair in August
Washington — President Trump intends to open the Iowa State Fair on the first day of the 11-day event in August, according to sources familiar with the plan, revisiting a presidential campaign ritual in a state that helped deliver his return to the White House. Mr. Trump's visit, marked on the White House calendar for Aug. 7, is seen as an effort to shore up farm country for Republicans and to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation's independence. Vice President JD Vance is also planning to attend the fair, but on a different day, according to one of the sources. Further details are expected to be locked in by late June. White House spokespeople declined to comment. Mr. Trump was last at the Iowa State Fair in August 2023, five months before the first votes in the GOP presidential primary contest, when his campaign was overshadowed by legal troubles, including an election conspiracy case. He has told advisers that he had a great time on that visit on the third day of the fair, relishing the spectacle that included a flyover in his private jet as his chief competitor, Ron DeSantis, was in the middle of an event, surrounded by reporters. On a stroll around the fairgrounds, Mr. Trump was mobbed with people, and attendance spiked to a record for the year with more than 118,000 visitors. Kanye West makes court appearance in Sean Combs's trial
Ye, the controversial rapper formerly known as Kanye West, appeared at Sean 'Diddy' Combs's sex trafficking trial on Friday — causing a brief spectacle inside the courthouse as he continues his public campaign calling for the music mogul's release from jail. Dressed in all white, Ye arrived at the Manhattan courthouse just after 11 a.m. on Friday with Combs's son Christian 'King' Combs and was reportedly directed to the courtroom's overflow room. He left after about 40 minutes.
