The five-part drama explores the "cruelty of war, the tenuousness of life and the impossibility of love" as witnessed by an Australian medic turned prisoner of war.
The opening episode's synopsis states: "While writing a speech for an upcoming book launch, renowned surgeon and celebrated war hero Dorrigo Evans is thrust back into memories of his time as a POW during World War II and of his brief, unforgettable love affair with Amy Mulvaney."

I never liked ‘show-off' Jeremy Clarkson, says ex-Top Gear host
A former Top Gear presenter has said he never liked Jeremy Clarkson, calling him a 'massive show-off'. Steve Berry, who co-hosted the motoring show from 1993 to 1999, said his old colleague was an 'egotist' but added that this was what made him 'unique'. The pair worked on the BBC show for six years before Clarkson, 65, returned alongside James May and Richard Hammond when the programme was relaunched in 2002. They never formed a friendship, said Berry, but the 61-year-old said he 'respects' Clarkson. 'Do you know what? I've said I don't like him, but I respect him,' Berry said in a new interview, adding that he thought Hammond, May and Clarkson left the show 'at exactly the right time' in 2015. 'It was just on the cusp of them starting to – some of the ideas were coming around for the second or third time. There was still an engaging watch, but I thought when they quit…that's good timing,' he explained. The BBC programme was taken off air following presenter Freddie Flintoff's near-fatal crash in 2022, for which the former England cricketer sustained serious physical injuries and received a reported £9 million settlement. The broadcaster announced two years ago that Top Gear is to be 'rested' for the foreseeable future, but a statement added that it remains committed to Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness – who began presenting the show in 2019. Clarkson began hosting the programme in 1988, in its original format, before returning for the relaunch in 2002. Speaking about the broadcaster's popular return stint alongside May and Hammond – and the dynamic between the trio – Berry said: 'Anybody who watched the 'three amigos' Top Gear…would know there's a hierarchy there, isn't there. 'They're not equal, the three of them. There's James and there's Richard and then there's Jezza [Clarkson], and Jezza is the leader of the gang.' He continued: 'In real life, Jeremy is a less bombastic version of that person that you see on the screen. 'You couldn't act that persona for all the years that he has, [but] he is kind of like that.' Clarkson, Hammond and May went on to achieve success with The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime from 2016 to 2024, but now Clarkson predominantly focuses on his farm and the Clarkson's Farm show following his trials and tribulations. Motoring expert Berry said that despite the pair 'never really getting on together', Clarkson once made a point to chat to him at a car show. 'He said, 'Berry, people know we don't like each other, I'll buy you a pint and we'll stand over there pretending we like each other'.' The former host added that Clarkson was 'always late,' including showing up two hours late to their first meeting. 'I turned up half an hour early because I wanted to impress,' Berry added.

Rebel Wilson hit with second lawsuit from The Deb producers over 'false and derogatory statements'
Rebel Wilson is facing a second lawsuit from the producers of her film The Deb over claims she made false and derogatory statements about them, according to a new report. Those statements include accusations of engaging in 'inappropriate conduct' towards actress Charlotte MacInnes, who stars in the film. They also claim Wilson falsely accused them of embezzling the film's funds, The Australian reported on Thursday. Producers Vince Holden, Gregor Cameron and Amanda Ghost on Thursday filed proceedings against Wilson in the NSW Supreme Court. Wilson is also being sued for defamation in the US courts by the three producers, who have accused her of injurious falsehood, misleading and deceptive conduct and breaches of contract and director's duties. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. They also allege that Wilson threatened the Australian distributor of the film, Kismet, by seeking an injunction to block its release. Wilson has been very vocal on the conflicts surrounding her stalled film The Deb. Taking to Instagram Stories on the musical's official social media account in May, the 45-year-old entertainer slammed star actress Charlotte MacInnes. Wilson is embroiled in a legal battle with The Deb producers after accusing them of misconduct and embezzlement. They countered by filing a defamation lawsuit against her in the US, before launching a similar case in NSW this week. She also accused them of 'inappropriate behaviour' toward MacInnes, which the rising star has denied. The Bride Hard actress reposted footage of Charlotte performing at Cannes, and wrote scathingly, 'Charlotte MacInnes in a culturally inappropriate Indian outfit on Len Blavatnik's luxury yacht in Cannes - ironically singing a song from a movie that will never get released because of her lies and support for the people blocking the film's release.' In a second post, she wrote sarcastically, 'So glad you got your record deal Charlotte at the expense of the 300 people who worked on The Deb and really wanna see it released.' In September 2024, Charlotte denied that there was any inappropriate behaviour, prompting Rebel to allege that the actress rescinded her accusations to secure a new role with one of the producers. MacInnes told at the time: 'There is no truth to the allegations made involving me. 'I made a statement to the film team when this was first said in September 2023 and am saying this now to draw a line under it. Making false accusations undermines real victims and I won't be the subject of a fabricated narrative.' After working with one of the producers, Amanda, on The Deb, Charlotte was later cast as Daisy in Florence Welch's musical Gatsby: An American Myth, staged at Boston's A.R.T. during its pre-Broadway run. Rebel subsequently shared a screenshot of the Daily Mail article on her Instagram Stories and wrote, per Just Jared, 'When an actress on her first feature film is asked by a producer to stay in the same apartment as them, and then makes a complaint to me as the director saying said producer "asked her to have a bath and shower with her and it made her feel uncomfortable" – what am I supposed to do. Of course I reported it.' She added, 'There is no world where this is acceptable. The fact that this girl has been employed now by this 'producer' in the lead role of a production called GATSBY (ART Boston) and given a record label – should be all the proof you need as to why she has now changed her story.' In documents filed to the Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by The Guardian in November 2024, MacInnes claimed she informed Wilson that she was never sexually harassed by Amanda. Despite Charlotte's claim that she informed Wilson harassment had never occurred, the Pitch Perfect actress still proceeded with the accusations of mistreatment. 'I was deeply disturbed by this behaviour by Wilson, who was the director of the film and in a position of authority over me,' MacInnes alleged. Charlotte added in her official statement: 'Nothing that I told Wilson could reasonably have conveyed that I was reporting any misconduct, because there was no misconduct. 'I also understand [there were] claims that I was subjected to 'depraved sexual demands' and that 'MacInnes remains captive by Ghost and (fellow producer) Cameron as she is shuttled from city to city with them including Boston, New York, and London.' 'These statements are completely false and absurd. I have no idea what could cause Wilson and her attorney to make up such lies about me.'

Sacha Baron Cohen ‘terrified Isla will spill more secrets' after ‘sausage' gag – as he unveils ‘power play' revenge body
IT is just a month since Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher announced they would 'remain friends' after their £120million divorce was finalised. But with the ink barely dry, the Australian actress has been making barbed comments about 'men' that have been anything other than friendly. 7 7 And now, the normally private Sacha has come up with what appears to be the ultimate Hollywood power play. The 53-year-old Borat actor posed topless on the front of a men's magazine to show off his incredibly ripped torso as he prepares to play a Marvel supervillain. The single star's 'revenge body' is a surprise transformation from his previously gangly 6ft 3in frame. It follows Isla 's seductive poses earlier this year where she lay on a bed in a skimpy pink dress. But that was nothing in comparison to the social media messages she has posted in the past few weeks. First, Isla, 49, commented: 'For all the men who say, 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?', here's an update for you. Nowadays, 80 per cent of women are against marriage. 'Why? Because women realise it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage.' And last week she asked: 'Are you sure it's just one man they found?', next to a story saying, 'Man was found to be missing 90 per cent of his brain'. 'Lot of anger' A Hollywood source told The Sun last night: 'Isla knows exactly what she's doing here and there's zero doubt it will enrage Sacha no end.' 'There's no question the divorce has been extremely tough for both of them. 'They wanted to wrap things up fairly quickly, but it didn't pan out that way because they found it difficult to sign off on a financial settlement. All The signs Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher had secretly split from girls' nights out to hiding ring finger 'So there was a lot of back and forth over property and other assets, which was frustrating for them both and emotionally exhausting, especially with three kids caught in the middle. 'Isla's certainly a lot happier and more liberated these days, but she's clearly holding back a lot of anger and resentment.' Sacha and Isla had been together since meeting in Sydney in 2001. Back then, the ex-Home And Away star was building a career in TV, while Sacha was still best known for his comedy Ali G character. By the time they wed in 2010, she had made her name as a comic actress in 2005 film Wedding Crashers and Sacha had become a global figure as bumbling Borat from Kazakhstan. Their marriage was seen as one of the strongest in showbusiness, but cracks started to appear as they attempted to keep their family together while working in different parts of the world. Isla is said to have wanted to make their main home in Australia, while Sacha favoured London. They moved to the UK, where their three children were educated, but Sacha kept his seven-bed mansion in Los Angeles and she spent a lot of time working Down Under. Then last year Aussie actress Rebel Wilson claimed that Sacha had acted inappropriately on set while they were making 2016 movie The Brothers Grimsby. She alleged he pressured her to appear in a nude sex scene, fat-shamed her and asked her to stick her 'finger' somewhere intimate. Sacha denied all the claim s and they were later removed from Rebel's autobiography. Sacha has always pushed comedy to its limits, such as in his 2006 Borat movie when he wrestled naked in front of real hotel guests. But just a few days after the allegations were made, Isla and Sacha announced they were splitting up. Insiders said that Rebel's book had nothing to do with the break-up. And the couple claimed they started divorce proceedings in 2023. They posted a jokey message on social media with themselves in tennis gear saying: 'After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down.' That agreement not to talk about their personal lives seemed to end when Isla gave an interview this spring, commenting on her divorce. She said: 'It's the most difficult thing I've been through and I've learnt so much about myself. 'I never imagined my family being separated, but we are committed and loving parents.' It was reported that Isla had largely put her career on the back burner to look after their children when she was married to Sacha. Now she is rebuilding it, making a cameo appearance in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy in February, and she is due to star in Now You See Me 3, out in November. Meanwhile, it seems that Sacha has been spending a lot of time on his image — his body image. 7 7 100 press-ups The actor, who displayed a hairy chest while wearing a bright green mankini as Borat, has now shaved it off. In Men's Fitness magazine, he also oiled up his bare skin to enhance his rippling muscles. Sacha joked: 'Some celebs use Ozempic, some use private chefs, others use personal trainers. I use all three.' In fact, no fat jabs were needed. He did 100 press-ups a day plus ten to a dozen pull-ups. The comedian said: 'My mindset around fitness has definitely evolved. "My favourite exercise is X-ups. I've always found core workouts challenging, as I'm blessed with the core strength of an arthritic jellyfish, so being able to do them now is a reminder of how far I've come.' It is unusual for Sacha to talk about himself, but there is little doubt he is moving away from the comic creations that made his name. Last month, Borat director Larry Charles revealed that he was no longer working with Sacha since the actor started to go in a new direction on the 2012 film The Dictator. Larry said: 'He wanted to be more of a traditional movie star. 'He was surrounding himself with more traditional showbusiness people.' Sacha's six-pack training regime was developed for his role as Mephisto in the Marvel universe. This is his latest attempt at serious acting, having starred in the Apple+ psychological drama Disclaimer last year with Cate Blanchett. He told fans on Instagram he is 'hard-launching his mid-life crisis' and has 'replaced beer with protein shakes'. When Isla appeared at a gallery last month in a bright gown, the actress said her look was 'somewhere between mermaid and mid-life crisis'. If the pair's crises continue, this is only going to get more interesting. But our insider insisted Sacha was only aiming to impress studio bosses and audiences with his new six-pack, saying: 'He worked out for a role.' However, they added: 'His greatest fear will be Isla going into more details than her cryptic online posts. 'If that were to happen it would be his worst, utter nightmare.' All the signs Isla and Sacha had secretly split The couple have revealed they actually split last year, despite only just revealing their divorce. Here we look at the signs they had already broken up before revealing their split news: Social media silence - Sacha has been absent from Instagram since last Christmas. Spending time with friends - Isla has been been following that classic post break-up move of spending more time with her girlfriends. Hidden ring finger - No fans noticed at the time, but in many Instagram shots from this year, Isla has hidden her right hand so her wedding finger was not visible in many shots. Missing man - The last image Isla shared of her and Sacha prior to the divorce announcement was back in November last year.
