WNBA Suffers Big Blow After Caitlin Clark Injury

WNBA Suffers Big Blow After Caitlin Clark Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark suffered a left quadriceps strain and has been ruled out for at least two weeks. It's unclear when the injury occurred, but it's worth noting that the reigning Rookie of the Year was seen holding a compress to her left leg during last Saturday's game against the New York Liberty. Advertisement Clark remained in that contest until the final buzzer, and two days later, the Fever announced the injury along with the expected recovery timeline. Her first missed game was on the road against the Washington Mystics on Wednesday. It remained close throughout but ultimately Indiana lost 83-77 to fall to 2-3 on the season. Fever center DeWanna Bonner led the way in Clark's absence with 21 points, four rebounds and one assist. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Davis-Imagn Images With all the attention Clark has received since entering the league last season, she hadn't missed a WNBA game until Wednesday. Ticket prices for that game dropped 47%, according to Front Office Sports, and it's clear fans were more interested in paying to see Clark than watching the Fever without her. Advertisement According to USA Today's Christine Brennan, viewership "for Wednesday's Fever-Mystics game without Caitlin Clark tells the story: 357,000 people watched on NBA TV. Eight days earlier, also on NBA TV, 581,000 people watched Clark and the Fever play the Dream." The drop-off is clear, and the WNBA will have to do what it can until she returns. For what it's worth, Clark set record after record in her rookie season, was named an All-Star, selected to the All-WNBA First Team, led the league in assists and more. Through five games this season, she's averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists. Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins goes on 10-day IL with hamstring strain

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles placed outfielder Cedric Mullins on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right hamstring strain prior to their series-opener against the Chicago White Sox. Mullins has played 50 games, including all nine innings of Wednesday's loss to St. Louis after missing the first two games of the series. He is leading the struggling Orioles with 10 home runs, 31 RBIs and 19 extra-base hits. Baltimore (19-36) began Friday with baseball's third-worst record after consecutive playoff appearances in 2023 and 2024. Mullins' IL stint comes as Baltimore anticipates the return of 2024 AL Rookie of the Year runner-up and outfielder Colton Cowser (thumb), who is on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles signed utility player Cooper Hummel to a one-year major league contract in a corresponding move. Baltimore could be one of only a few sellers at the MLB trade deadline, with Mullins as one of the most movable pieces. The 30-year-old Mullins will hit free agency in 2026. He can play all three outfield positions and has exceeded 15 home runs and 50 RBIs in each of the last four seasons. He earned a 2021 All-Star appearance while homering 30 times, contributing 59 RBIs and batting .291 in 159 games. ___
