Why Alabama's 2026 class is set to skyrocket up recruiting rankings
If you were to take a look at the Alabama Crimson Tide's current position in the 2026 team recruiting rankings, then it might not be something you necessarily expected to see in mid-June.
As to why, that is because Alabama's 2026 recruiting class currently sits at No. 45 nationally according to the latest 247Sports Team Rankings with only seven commitments, as of Tuesday, June 17.
However, do not be surprised if that ranking changes in the very near future, as things are certainly in place for the Crimson Tide to skyrocket up the class rankings over the next two-to-three weeks.
As mentioned previously, Alabama's 2026 recruiting class currently holds only seven commitments, which is among the fewest of any SEC team. Of those seven, one is a five-star prospect in cornerback Jorden Edmonds, while the remaining six are all considered four-star's.
Lying ahead for the Crimson Tide however are numerous upcoming commitment decisions that will be made in the coming weeks from some of the nation's elite prospects, many of which have Alabama among their list of finalists.
For example, here are a few of the top Alabama targets who are announcing their commitments in the next two-to-three weeks, along with their rating and position, according to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings.
Alabama football recruiting decisions to watch during June, July
4-star RB Ezavier Crowell - June 26
4-star IOL Deacon Schmitt - June 28
5-star LB Xavier Griffin - June 29
5-star WR Cederian Morgan - July 2
5-star S Jireh Edwards - July 5
4-star LB Nick Abrams II - July 16
With the Crimson Tide trending for some of these prospects as well, it certainly is shaping up to be a loaded late-June and early-July for Alabama, something that you could say has already started with a pair of recent four-star commitments in offensive lineman Sam Utu and quarterback Jett Thomalla.
Will it continue in the coming days and weeks for the Crimson Tide?

Former UNC running back the favorite for Dallas Cowboys' starting gig

Can you imagine starting for the Dallas Cowboys? Javonte Williams "continues to see the most reps with the starters", per @ RB1 spot is getting clearer in Dallas 👀 North Carolina is quickly earning a reputation for their running backs over the years and sending them to the NFL UNC's most recent backfield addition to the NFL is Omarion Hampton, who became the Los Angeles Chargers' 22nd overall pick in April. Before Hampton, North Carolina sent the likes of Ty Chandler, Michael Carter and Javonte Williams to the NFL. Only Williams, who rushed for 1,140 yards during the Tar Heels' 2020 season, remains as a starting-caliber NFL back. Williams, now a member of the Dallas Cowboys, is all-but-confirmed as Dallas' 2025 starter. On Monday, Jon Machota of The Athletic said Williams is emerging as the Cowboys' RB1 option, thanks to a strong Training Camp. Williams, who didn't play in Dallas' preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams, signed a 1-year deal earlier in the offseason. Williams is competing against Deuce Vaughn, Jaydon Blue and former 1,000-yard rusher Miles Sanders for the Cowboys' starting job. Williams made an immediate impact for the Denver Broncos during his rookie season, rushing for a career-high 903 yards and four touchdowns. Since suffering a knee injury early in 2022, Williams bounced between starting action and bench production. During Denver's long-awaited return to the NFL Postseason in 2024, Williams found the end zone four times, tying his rookie high and hinting at increased production. Dallas made a head-scratching decision to release Ezekiel Elliott after 2023 – and hasn't found consistent backfield production since. Williams might not be the Cowboys' running back of their future, but the former UNC back has a great chance to prove himself as that guy in 2025. ESPN's Greg McElroy calls Auburn a 'sleeper' ahead of the 2025 season

The preseason Associated Press poll for the 2025 season was released this week, and the Auburn Tigers were on the outside by receiving 10 votes. ESPN analyst and sports talk show host Greg McElroy shared his opinion of the poll following its release. During his spiel, McElroy included Auburn as a "sleeper" team for the top 25 by season's end. McElroy shared the same sentiments as ESPN's David Hale by pointing out that Auburn caught many unlucky breaks last season and does not expect the program to experience the misfortune of losing multiple one-score games during the upcoming season. 'It's just, there's no way (Auburn) can be as snakebit as they were last year," McElroy said during a recent episode of Always College Football. "The football gods won't allow, it's not likely. I guess it can happen, Nebraska fans are like 'We've been that way for awhile now, we've lost a lot of one-score games.' I get it, so I understand it can happen for sure.' One of the reasons why McElroy feels that Auburn's "receiving votes" status can change early on is thanks to their ability to revamp several position groups through the transfer portal. The defense held its own last season, but enhancements at wide receiver and offensive line could propel the Tigers to new heights under head coach Hugh Freeze. While McElroy respects Auburn and feels that they may be underrated heading into the new year, he is not ready to say that the Tigers are ready to contend for their first-ever College Football Playoff bid. 'So I look at Auburn and for them to be 5, 8, 11, 12 spots – so basically 37th in college football – to me is way too far (down),' McElroy said. 'I think Auburn has a chance to be a Top 25 team. I don't think they're a (College Football) Playoff team, but they have a chance to be a Top 25 team for sure. Especially with the pieces that've improved from last year to this year.' Auburn will get its first chance to make a statement on Friday, Aug. 29, when it faces Baylor on the road at 7 p.m. CT. DeSean Bishop has 'grown tremendously' in pass protection ahead of 2025 season

Tennessee practiced for a tenth time during fall training camp on Tuesday. Redshirt sophomore DeSean Bishop enters his third season with the Vols in 2025. The 5-foot-10, 208-pound running back appeared in 10 contests during the 2024 campaign. Bishop totaled 455 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns on 74 attempts in 2024. He also recorded one reception for 10 yards in the Vols' season opener against Chattanooga. Following Tuesday's practice, running backs coach De'Rail Sims discussed Bishop's improvement during the offseason. 'I think he's taken a step in terms of leadership, number one,' Sims said. 'He's been a dynamic guy in the room, in terms of holding guys accountable. If somebody is not living up to the standard, he's the first one to get on them, and that's including all factors. 'I think from the pass protection standpoint, he's taken the next step too. From a physicality standpoint, an eye discipline standpoint, he's done a really good job. Running the ball is natural to him, I mean, you're talking about a guy that was highly productive in high school and rushed for a ton of yards, so that came natural. The pass protection piece of it, he's grown tremendously in that and done a really good job this camp.' Follow Vols Wire on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).
