Morez Johnson Jr. transfers from Illinois to Michigan basketball

The transfer portal in college basketball is in full swing, with Michigan basketball having received one incoming transfer in former North Carolina Tar Heels point guard Elliot Cadeau and losing three in point guard Tre Donaldson, forward Sam Walters, and forward Jace Howard.
The Wolverines now can make it two and three.

Not too long after the transfer portal opened, the maize and blue secured Cadeau, but now they're adding another to the squad. According to 247Sports Dushawn London, the Wolverines are adding a transfer from a Big Ten rival with Illinois forward Morez Johnson Jr. leaving the Illini for Ann Arbor.
Johnson appeared in 30 games last season and averaged seven points and 6.7 rebounds. Last season was his first in college basketball, and he will have three years of eligibility remaining. Coming in at 6-foot-9, Johnson is still coming along as a player, but he does have three double-doubles to his name. As a recruit, he was ranked No. 30 overall in the 2024 class as well as the sixth-best center (though he projects more to power forward).
The scouting report as a recruit via 247Sports:
Johnson is a powerfully built big man, constant double-double threat, and versatile frontcourt defender. He's not the tallest or most offensively skilled, but strong from head-to-toe, physical on both ends of the floor, and very efficient in his role. Defensively, he can bang on the block, provide a physical deterrent to opposing drivers, and really clean the glass (9.8 rebounds per game). Simultaneously though, he can also move laterally and use his length to contain opposing ball-handlers in pick-and-roll action. Offensively, he's a little limited in the post and not yet a consistent shooting threat beyond 15 feet, but nonetheless very effective within his role. He's a diligent rim runner, quick roller off ball screens, and very balanced inside the lane, both ducking-in for deep post position and pivoting through contact. Johnson finishes through traffic and scores equally well with both hands around the rim.

Johnson will not replace Walters' 3-point prowess as he did not attempt a single 3 all season last year.

The internet goes wild after 5-star RB Savion Hiter commits to Michigan football

It was a long wait to see what he would do, but Savion Hiter finally decided that Ann Arbor is his new home. Michigan football's No. 1 target in the 2026 is also the No. 1 running back in the country. The five-star running back -- rated the No. 9 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite -- ended up choosing the Wolverines over Tennessee, Ohio State, and Georgia in an emotional ceremony in Virginia on Tuesday, thus closing one of the most high-profile recruitments in the 2026 cycle. Now that Hiter is a Wolverine, there were naturally some big reactions to the news. Here are some of our favorite reactions on X (formerly Twitter). Apple Acquires Sports Comedy Feature THE DINK Featuring All-Star Cast Led by Jake Johnson and Ben Stiller — GeekTyrant

Apple has picked up the rights to the sports comedy The Dink , directed by Josh Greenbaum (upcoming Spaceballs 2 ) and starring Jake Johnson ( New Girl ). Ben Stiller is on board as a producer and co-star, alongside an all-star cast that includes tennis champions Andy Roddick and John McEnroe, as well as Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, Chloe Fineman, Aaron Chen, Patton Oswalt, Chris Parnell and Christine Taylor. Details as to the release plan, including whether the film will hit theaters in addition to streaming, have not yet been disclosed. Written by Sean Clements, The Dink stars Johnson as a washed-up tennis pro who, desperate to save a struggling club and earn his father's respect, is compelled to break a sacred vow and do the unthinkable: play pickleball. The project reunites Apple with Stiller amid his work on Severance , the fan-favorite dystopian thriller series which recently landed 27 Emmy nominations — the most of any show this year — including Outstanding Drama series. Apple will also serve as the distributor for Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost , Stiller's intergenerational documentary passion project looking at the lives of his late comedy icon parents, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. Johnson, meanwhile, is set to star alongside Tatiana Maslany in Apple's upcoming comedic thriller series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed . via: Deadline

Ben Johnson confirms Bears starters will play vs. Chiefs

The Chicago Bears will close out the preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night, and there's been questions about whether Chicago's starters will see any action. Well, we now know the answer. During an appearance on the "Up & Adams Show" with Kay Adams, Johnson confirmed that Bears starters will play in their final preseason game -- although for how long remains to be seen. "We'll see how long it is," Johnson said. "We're going to get through a couple of days of practice and determine how long. But we need to go through this." Following Sunday night's preseason win against the Buffalo Bills, Johnson discussed the importance of going through that prime-time routine for the starters at home. Now, Chicago will have an opportunity to gain that same valuable experience but on the road for the first time this preseason. "I thought a big part of what tonight was about was getting our routine down for a home night game, which is week one for us," Johnson said Sunday night. "I thought our starters did a great job. They understood what the purpose was. They came out and got the job done and did what they needed to do and we got them out of the game. I thought the routine was a big part of it. This would be really the first time we're on the road in a preseason. It's probably good to go through that exercise as well.' It's unclear how long Bears starters will play against the Chiefs, but it should be similar to last Sunday against the Bills with either one or two series of action. It'll likely depend on the operation and execution on each unit's first drive.
