Police assault arrest as dozens involved in disorder

Yahoo11-06-2025
A teenage girl has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer after dozens of people joined disorder that saw cars set on fire and bricks being hurled in Salford.
About 50 to 60 people gathered during the disturbance in the city's Lower Broughton Road at about 13:30 BST, Greater Manchester Police said.
Cars were stolen and set on fire, motorbikes were being ridden erratically and bricks thrown at officers, while wheelie bins and cars were used to block off the road, the force said.
A 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer.
The windscreen of a police vehicle was smashed during the disruption.
A video shared on social media appeared to show a Fiat 500 reversing at speed along the road with its boot open, as another car followed it.
Supt Marcus Noden said: "We are aware of speculation online that this incident is linked to immigration. This is categorically incorrect.
"This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and we took robust and appropriate action.
"A large number of officers will be remaining in the area over night as a precaution.
"There are currently no ongoing incidents in the area, however, tensions remain heightened, and we have robust plans in place, should we need to respond to any further incidents."
A dispersal order would remain in place until 14:00 BST on Thursday, police said.

Travis Decker Manhunt: Police Share New Evidence in Daughters' Murders

Originally appeared on E! Online Authorities are sharing more information surrounding Travis Decker's case. Over two months after the bodies of his and ex-wife Whitney Decker's daughters Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, were discovered at a campground in Leavenworth, Wash., police have linked the patriarch's DNA to the plastic bags used to kill the girls, whose causes of death were determined to be suffocation, per the autopsies completed by the Medical Examiner. 'Two of the victims each had two separate bags over their heads and the third victim had three separate bags over their head,' the Chelan County Sheriff's Office said in an Aug. 19 press release shared to Facebook. 'In addition, several cable ties were located on the ground in the immediate area of the bodies. These plastic bags and cable ties were collected that night by the Washington State Patrol Crime Response Team.' After sending this evidence for DNA analysis, authorities said that they believe Travis—who is wanted on first-degree charges of murder and kidnapping—is the 'only suspect involved in committing these homicides.' Regarding the cable ties found at the scene, the police department added, 'One DNA profile was obtained from the cable ties collected at the scene. Store ram raid sparks police appeal

Police are appealing for information after a ram raid on a village store in Surrey. Officers said a stolen blue Land Rover Discovery was used in the raid on a Spar shop in Elstead at 01:55 BST on 14 August. Surrey Police described the suspects as three men in dark clothing, wearing hats, gloves and balaclavas. The car then made off in the direction of The Mill pub. The force said the three suspects were linked to "some suspicious activity" on School Road in Rowledge an hour before the incident. They were believed to be scoping out vehicles parked on driveways, it continued. Surrey Police urged anyone with footage or who saw what happened to get in contact. ‘Beloved' 18-year-old shot dead at house party, NM officials say. Man sentenced

A man has been sentenced to prison in connection to the 2022 shooting that left a 'beloved' 18-year-old dead, New Mexico officials said. In December 2022, now-21-year-old Jesse Parra showed up uninvited to an Albuquerque house party with Cruz Medina, Isaiah Espinosa and Jesse Barrios after learning about it on social media, according to an Aug. 19 Facebook post by the Bernalillo County District Attorney's Office. After they were asked to leave because they were taking photos with guns, they returned and began shooting, officials said. Parra drove the car during the shooting, 'maneuvering the vehicle so the two shooters could fire at the home and flee the scene,' officials said. An 18-year-old, later identified as Jada Gonzales, was fatally shot in the stomach, officials said. Gonzales had plans to attend Texas Christian University and was an 'exemplary student' who worked two jobs, a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses said. 'This is the greatest pain I've ever known and not one I'd wish any parent to ever feel,' the GoFundMe page said. Medina, then 16, was sentenced to 24 years in prison, officials said. Espinosa, 16 at the time and the one accused of firing the shot that killed Gonzales, was sentenced to 29 years in prison, prosecutors said. Barrios, then 18, 'recorded the crime on his phone and was taken into ICE custody,' prosecutors said. In April, Parra pleaded guilty to charges of shooting at a dwelling or occupied building resulting in death, conspiracy to commit shooting at a dwelling or occupied building resulting in death and tampering with evidence, officials said. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, officials said. 'Jada Brooke Gonzales touched many lives and hearts and we are all devastated by this loss,' the GoFundMe page said.
