All smoke, no screen time: How The Royals wasted Zeenat Aman's comeback
When a name like Zeenat Aman is associated with a project, expectations soar automatically. Synonymous with glamour and grace in the 70s, her legacy continues to resonate with generations of fans. Amid high expectations from fans to see her back on the screen, that wish came true with the icon's appearance in Netflix's 'The Royals'. While the show flaunts glossy visuals and a sprawling ensemble, its handling of Zeenat Aman's character leaves much to be desired, ultimately, a missed opportunity that lingers with disappointment.advertisementAt a time when seasoned actors are finally being given layered, powerful roles on streaming platforms, it's heartbreaking to see an icon like her wasted in such a forgettable part. While the actor was ready to carry the weight of her own crown, it looks like the script simply refused to let her. While the show starring Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter promised a compelling blend of regality, power play, and nostalgia, the return of 1970s screen siren Zeenat Aman turned those high expectations to dust. Her role was not just underutilised, it was unforgivably squandered. advertisement View this post on Instagram A post shared by Netflix India (@netflix_in)The veteran actor as Maji Sahiba, the matriarch of the royal family, is caught in the storm of palace politics and modern-day scandals. Given her legendary aura and the character's potential to anchor emotional gravitas and intrigue, Maji Sahiba should have been the show's backbone.
Instead, Aman is reduced to a glorified cameo, where she is mostly seen smoking weed, delivering cryptic one-liners or sitting stoically with her presence in the narrative largely neglected. With the successful comebacks of her contemporaries, expectations were naturally high. Neetu Kapoor made a notable return with Saif Ali Khan's 'Love Aaj Kal' (2009), followed by her acclaimed performance in 'Do Dooni Chaar' (2010) alongside Rishi Kapoor, which was widely praised given her stellar performance. Similarly, Farida Jalal's comeback in 'Heeramandi' earned widespread praise. And who can forget Sharmila Tagore's graceful return in 'Gulmohar', a role that helped the show bag several awards? With such strong returns by yesteryear icons, fans continue to hope that these legends will choose scripts that truly do justice to their legacy. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Netflix India (@netflix_in)Zeenat Aman's casting in 'The Royals' looked like a strategic move to bring prestige and buzz to the series rather than a genuine creative decision. Adding her name to the celeb roll call in the series, the makers may have hoped to add more weightage to the story, but it failed to match up to the expectations of the fans.advertisementThe premise of the series was ripe for a strong matriarchal figure to anchor the emotional and political tensions. Zeenat could have portrayed a queen torn between loyalty to tradition and the moral ambiguity of her family's secrets. However, none of it happened. Instead, her character was just reduced to ornamental value. In one of the scenes where the entire royal clan crashes and their palace is being sealed, Zeenat, being the head where her commanding presence could have deepened the show's impact, is curiously sidelined. She is sitting in her room, smoking weed and not ready to leave her palace. Her potential as a formidable player on the royal chessboard remains mostly unexplored.Hence, we can clearly say that despite decades of cinematic brilliance, from 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' to 'Don', the legendary actor is offered minimal dialogue and scant screen time.Must Watch

Deaf driver finds unexpected connection when deaf passenger responds in sign language. Watch
In a deeply touching moment that has gone viral on social media, a video capturing the silent yet soul-stirring interaction between a deaf taxi driver and his equally deaf passenger is melting hearts across the internet. Reportedly filmed in China, the clip highlights the power of empathy, shared experience, and human connection — all conveyed without a single spoken word. (Also read: 'Be aware of this notice': Chinese forecasters ask weather deities to keep skies clear for Children's Day) The video opens with what appears to be a typical taxi ride. A passenger enters the vehicle and takes a seat. The driver, using hand gestures, offers his phone — likely asking the passenger to input a verification code. However, what followed was anything but ordinary. The driver, who is deaf, begins communicating in sign language. To his visible surprise and delight, the passenger responds fluently in the same way. The realisation that they not only share a language but also a silent world triggers a wholesome and profoundly emotional exchange of signs and smiles. Watch the clip here: A post shared by 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗫 (@thebulletinx) Their brief yet powerful interaction, caught on camera, is now winning hearts. The video has been widely shared on Instagram and other platforms, quickly garnering over two lakh views. Instagram users have flooded the comments section with heartfelt reactions. One wrote, 'This is so wholesome, it brought tears to my eyes.' Another added, 'A silent moment louder than words — what a connection.' Many praised the beauty of the chance encounter, calling it 'the purest form of communication.' (Also read: Trying to save ₹6,000 on dental retainer, Chinese woman ends up in hospital: 'There's reason professionals charge more') Several viewers remarked on the rarity of two deaf individuals coincidentally meeting and instantly understanding one another. 'What are the odds? So beautiful,' read one comment. Others noted how the video restored their faith in humanity, with a user saying, 'I've watched this on loop — my heart needed this today.' There were also many calls for greater inclusion and awareness. 'More reason to learn sign language,' one user urged, while another wrote, 'This made me smile more than anything else today.'

Sonakshi Sinha, Jyotika to act in Ashwiny Iyer's courtroom drama; Filming begins in Mumbai
Sonakshi Sinha and Jyotika will face off in a courtroom in their upcoming film. The movie is a powerful legal drama directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. The film has been in development for some time. It was originally planned with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, but the casting changed as things didn't go as planned. 'Because it didn't align with [our] timelines and creative direction," a source told Mid-Day. Earlier this year, the makers decided to rework the script and give the project a fresh start. That's when Sonakshi Sinha came on board. According to the source stated to Midday, 'Sonakshi came on board after extensive look tests and readings. She brings a grounded intensity to the role that impressed the creative team." Filming Begins in Mumbai The shoot for the film started just last week in Mumbai. Courtroom sets have been built in areas like Malvani, Madh Island, and Vile Parle. The film's story revolves around a legal case and explores themes of personal trauma and social justice. Sonakshi's Role Sonakshi Sinha will play a strong and determined lawyer in the film. Jyotika Joins Soon Jyotika is expected to start filming in mid-June and will also have a powerful and impactful role. 'The script is gritty and is not your typical courtroom drama. The legal arguments have emotional backstories, and both female leads have equal weight," as mentioned by the insider revealed. Film Title and Schedule The film doesn't have a title yet, but it's already looking promising. The team hopes to finish shooting by the end of the year if everything goes as planned. Sonakshi's Recent Work Sonakshi Sinha recently played dual roles of a mother and daughter in Sanjay Leela Bhansali 's period drama Heeramandi. 2024 Release In 2024, she appeared briefly in the sci-fi action film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Akshay Kumar , Tiger Shroff, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
