Punjab village 'for sale' over drug menace
Lakhbir Singh, a farmer from Bhai Bakhtaur village in Bathinda district on Sunday posted a hand-written banner at the village entrance which read `` Our Village is For Sale '' (Saada pind vikau hai). This step was taken after a day after ex-serviceman Ranbir Singh was allegedly brutally thrashed by two men, Kuldeep Singh and Gurpreet Singh involved in drug cases. Lakhbir also posted a video denouncing the attack and accusing the police of failing to protect villagers from drug violence.
According to Bathinda SP Amneet Kondal, Singh had reportedly been urging youths to leave drugs and play sports. This message appears to have triggered local drug peddlers. Singh is presently admitted in a hospital at Bathinda. Police have arrested both accused and booked them on charges of attempted murder, unlawful restraint, and causing grievous hurt, he added
Vineet Joshi, media head of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Punjab, alleged that on June 1, three people died of drug overdoses in different villages across the state—Deharka (Ludhiana district), Rodikpura (Faridkot district), and Senia (Fazilka district). Meanwhile, in Bakhtaur village in Bathinda, frustrated residents put up a sign reading, "Our Village is for Sale", in a desperate protest against the unchecked drug menace.
'This reflects the grim reality behind the so-called 'War Against Drugs' and exposes the failure of the AAP government's May 31 deadline to make Punjab drug-free. The message 'Sadda Pind Bikau Hai' is not a political slogan—it's a cry of anguish from a village gripped by fear and helplessness. Today, shopkeepers, labourers, and even women in rural Punjab feel unsafe. While farmers and protesters are swiftly arrested—sometimes along with their mothers and sisters—drug traffickers continue to roam free, even with multiple cases pending against them,' Joshi said.
Punjab's situation is now worse than Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. villagers live in fear of "Chitta" (heroin) smugglers, who openly threaten them. We are not political workers, nor affiliated with any party, but things have gone too far now," said a youth in a viral video, where he praised UP CM Yogi Adityanath for his crackdown on criminals.

STF nabs man with 8 pistols, Sikligar arms smuggling racket busted in Rudrapur
Dehradun: Eight semi-automatic pistols meant to be sold during panchayat elections were recovered from a man in Rudrapur on Wednesday night, exposing for the first time the alleged involvement of the Sikligar community from Madhya Pradesh in illegal arms trafficking in Uttarakhand. Khajan Singh, 24, a resident of Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district. He was arrested by the special task force (STF) of Uttarakhand police from Rudrapur bus station following a tip-off, SSP (STF) Navneet Singh Bhullar said. "He was accompanied by three other acquaintances in a car. They dropped him at the bus station and sped away, followed by an ongoing investigation to nab them too. After nabbing Singh, police frisked his bag and recovered eight semi-automatic pistols from his possession," Bhullar said. Singh was then taken into custody. During interrogation, he told police he had travelled to Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh on July 20 to procure the weapons from a Sikligar village and intended to sell them in Uttarakhand during the ongoing local body elections. He returned to Rudrapur on the night between Wednesday and Thursday. He revealed that he bought the pistols from Sartaz Singh, a notorious arms smuggler belonging to the Sikligar community in MP and admitted to sourcing weapons from him on earlier occasions too. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Singh, who had previously been lodged in jail for loot and arms smuggling cases, said he planned to sell the pistols for Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh each. STF officials said Singh's statement pointed to a deeper supply chain of locally made firearms feeding into electoral violence. "A probe is on to find out about his customers and nab his associates involved in the crime," Bhullar said. The Sikligars, who are found among both Hindu and Sikh communities, were historically gunsmiths in Guru Gobind Singh's army. After the colonial-era ban on arms-making, many families from the community — particularly those in Burhanpur, Dhar and Khargone — are suspected to have continued the trade clandestinely. In recent years, several police operations in MP have uncovered large caches of locally fabricated pistols, Mausers and revolvers made using truck springs, bicycle frames and scrap iron in makeshift furnaces. An investigation on the same by the MP police also revealed that they were supplying illegal arms to at least 19 states. The weapons are often trafficked across state borders to Punjab, Delhi, UP, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand through a network of carriers and buyers. In one such case, Punjab police busted a similar module in Khargone linked to radical outfits and gangs. Officers added that Singh's case was a direct example of how these low-cost weapons — some of which take up to 10 days to manufacture — enter electoral hotspots and fuel local crime. The demand around elections allows smugglers to push prices from Rs 1,000–2,000 for crude pistols to as high as Rs 1.5 lakh for improved semi-automatic models

Patna: Patna Police have arrested three persons for allegedly raping a minor girl and blackmailing her with a video clip, an official said on Thursday. City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh said that the police came to know about the incident on July 22 after the victim's parents lodged a complaint at the Danapur police station. 'The investigation revealed that four youths allegedly gang raped the victim, recorded a video of the incident, and used it to blackmail her. They extorted jewellery kept in the house,' Singh said, adding that the case was solved within 24 hours of the complaint. Danapur Police registered FIR number 767/25 on July 22, 2025, under Sections 70(2), 308(2), 351(2) of the BNS, along with relevant sections of the POCSO Act (4/6/12). Following directions from the Senior Superintendent of Police, an SIT was formed under the leadership of City SP (West) to investigate the case. According to Singh, the accused befriended the victim on Instagram, took her to a hotel, gang raped her, recorded the act, and later used the obscene video to extort gold jewellery, which they sold at a shop. Based on the statements of the three arrested youths, the police also arrested goldsmith Arvind Kumar for allegedly purchasing the stolen jewellery. During questioning, Kumar admitted that he had bought the jewellery from the accused. 'We have seized five mobile phones during the operation, and raids are underway to apprehend another individual involved in the incident,' Singh said. The investigation team included Sub-Inspector Ashish Kumar Chaudhary, Sub-Inspector Bittu Kumar Sharma, Sub-Inspector Preeti Kumari, Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandan Pratap Karna, and members of the Police Station armed force. The incident once again exposes the sad and grim reality of the society pertaining to safety and security of women. Crimes against women have been one of the most glaring challenges across the nation and the entire country has been struggling to deal effectively with it.
