For a sheltered gal, this was the beginning of the door to pop culture being slightly ajar — and I would spend the next two years pushing it further and further until the door was practically off its hinges.
All I wanted was VAMPIRES! My sister and I DEVOURED (pun-intended) endless hours of Vampire Diaries, True Blood, and our favourite...Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And even though I knew that Spike was a deceased, cursed, 126-year-old...I couldn't help but dream about what it would be like to date him. *sigh*

We tried Damson Madder, the internet's new favorite maximalist brand — and it's as fun as it looks
If you're bored of the unadorned silk dresses and plain white linen sets that supposedly whisper wealth and status, then you're not alone. Restrained dressing under the guise of trends like quiet luxury and East Coast summer has produced stifling guidance against bold silhouettes, loud colors, and quirky accessories. But Damson Madder embraces joyful maximalism in all of its bright-hued, polka-dotted, youthful glory. The London-based brand takes up the mantle of similarly wacky brands like Lisa Says Gah and Rachel Antoff. But Damson Madder takes it to the next level with their one-of-a-kind accessories like a library of gilets, bright oversized scrunchies with ribbons hanging down that can be braided into your hair, and patterned head scarves. We're also huge fans of their convertible styles, which have delightful innovations like removable puff sleeves and collars that can be detached. After seeing the brand all over Instagram, we decided to try the affordable new it-girl brand for ourselves. Fleur Shirred Mini Dress This dress is wonderfully quirky, with a trendy drop waist and a print that looks like a label of a fizzy Italian orange soda. When I first showed my fellow editor Gabrielle my planned outfit — this dress and the hat to match — she delightfully exclaimed that it looked like a chic baby outfit. We joked that Damson Madder is like Lisa Says Gah meets Baby Gap, and it turns out that it's a pretty fitting description. I loved the playfulness of the Fleur Shirred Mini Dress. It's also made of 100% organic cotton, which is blessedly common as far as Damson Madder textiles go. The only thing that I had a slight issue with was the decorative gaps at the front. I have a larger bust so it's not possible for me to go braless and you could definitely see my nude bra through the openings. This also made it impossible for me to convert it to a strapless dress, though the straps are removable. The bucket hat was also a fun accessory that definitely leans into the chic baby vibe. It's no longer available on the website, but there are lots of other options for matchy-matchy accessorizing. Fan Fan Midi Dress "I had doubts about how I'd feel wearing the Fan Fan Midi Dress. I avoid all-white outfits because I don't trust myself not to spill, and because of a Girls episode where Ray tells Hannah, 'You're wearing a white dress. You're essentially begging the world to mess with you.' And yet everywhere I went, it only attracted good energy. I sat at a park in Brooklyn where two stylish strangers complimented me in it. The 100% cotton dress is remarkable because of its convertible design and detailed floral embroidery around the skirt. The frilled Peter Pan collar can be untied and taken off, so it's left as a strapless dress. However, it doesn't stay up around my 34B cups very well sans straps, so I tied the front ribbon into a halter neck. Not a very comfortable maneuver given the weight of the dress, but it worked. The bodice runs small. If you have a large bust or wide ribcage, definitely size up. There's a small lace window beneath the bust, which allows air to flow in, but where a bra would certainly show. My biggest concern, though, is the hardware around its side seam closure. The hook and eye clasp was only hanging on by a few threads when I received the dress, and the zipper feels flimsy and gets jammed easily. These details, while regrettable considering the price, can be fixed. They connect to the dress via strings that hang down no matter what. This might annoy some people, but I felt like the loose ribbons added to the vibe. Is this dress cute? Absolutely. But is it the perfect summer dress? Not really. Damson Madder is committed to sustainability, so their materials are always responsibly sourced and often recycled. The Sita dress is made of recycled polyester that holds it's shape well, but sacrifices breathability. I was a little surprised to feel how stiff the polyester was and quickly ruled this piece out as an August wedding guest dress, because I know that the fabric will trap heat. But that being said, I really do appreciate the silhouette of the Sita Multiway Midi Dress. It's hard to find an affordable brand that is doing something new and innovative, so the removable puff sleeves were a refreshing style touch in a sea of sameness. How to shop from Damson Madder Size up if you have a larger chest. We've noticed that the dresses tend to be tight in the bust area, so people with D-cups and up should size up. Avoid the recycled polyester in the summer months. There's sometimes a place for supportive, shape-holding textiles — but the heat of summer isn't it. Stick to the brand's 100% cotton pieces. Search the accessories section for unique pieces. If you're already committed to buying a dress or a set, you might be able to find scrunchies, scarves, and even purses made from the exact same print. Really think about what undergarments you'll need. Lots of pieces have decorative gaps and peekaboos, which often make wearing bras hard. Where ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love' Season 1 Cast Are Now
The Ultimatum: Queer Love season 2 is currently airing on Netflix, with a new batch of couples putting their relationship to the test to figure out whether they're ready to settle down, call it quits for good, or move on with someone new. It's been two years since season one first aired on the streaming site and had us all well and truly hooked, and almost four years since the show was filmed. With the new season underway, we couldn't help but wonder where the likes of Lexi and Rae or Tiff and Mildred are now. From career changes to new relationships and an engagement, here's where the cast of The Ultimatum: Queer Love season 1 are now. Despite Rae exploring a connection with Vanessa (ahem, Finger Gate) during their trial married, she ultimately chose to return to Lexi. Still, throughout the season, Lexi often dominated the dynamic, frequently overshadowing Rae. They were still together by the time the reunion came around and were even planning their wedding. However, they called things off shortly after the reunion aired. Lexi is now in a relationship with Lil Z, who she refers to as her "wife" and the couple often share very loved up pictures on their social media — many of which have us wondering if we're interrupting something. The pair hard launched their relationship in 2023 and later got engaged. In terms of work, Lexi seems to have stepped away from consulting for an international taxi firm and has moved into lifestyle content creation. As for Rae, she's currently working as a software engineer and also appears to be in a new relationship with a talent manager named Caitlin. On 22nd May, Rae shared a montage of videos and images of the couple, with the caption: "The butterfly effect is real because what if I was never issued an Ultimatum." Tiff and Mildred had a pretty tumultuous relationship while on the show, marked by conflict and weekly breakups. While Tiff proposed to Mildred during the finale, things didn't last. At the reunion, it was revealed that Tiff and Mildred had broken off their engagement after a domestic dispute that led to Mildred's arrest. Following the show, Tiff went on to host the Fweebs Podcast alongside Karina Gonzalez. Tiff's Instagram bio states that they are a "Narcissistic Abuse Coach" and followers can access coaching sessions via a link. Tiff hosts and attends lost of Pride events in the US and has recently been making videos commenting on the new season of The Ultimatum. After the show, Mildred continued her work as a Zumba instructor, but has since stepped away from social media. Although turbulent, Sam and Aussie's story ended with a proposal in the finale. Fans will be happy to hear that the duo are still together. It's not yet known whether they've tied the knot yet, but Sam posted a picture of their proposal on 18th June with a very lengthy caption, where she stated: "And no I won't be commenting on our marriage status because it really doesn't matter whether or not you know. The exception is if we know you personally lol I don't really follow traditions anyways, but I will say it's funny that the Ultimatum actually helped me care less about marriage than I did before we started the journey." The pair advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and mental health on their respective Instagram accounts, sharing lots of advice videos with the hope of providing more representation as queer Asians. They are also the only surviving couple of season one, so they should be quite proud. Xander and Vanessa were the only couple to part ways on Ultimatum Day, a decision that aligned with Vanessa's father's insight that she wasn't ready for marriage - she just didn't want to lose Xander. Following the show, Vanessa debuted her new girlfriend. She also moved to Los Angeles. She has kept the identity of her partner private, although she does appear in some of her Instagram posts and the pair seem very smitten. As for Xander, they still live in Hawaii but mentioned they were considering a move to Los Angeles or San Diego, where The Ultimatum: Queer Love was filmed. Xander appears to be on good terms with Mal, who they posted a pic with last year June, writing: "Thanks for an amazing excuse to go see people I love @netflix" with some heart-eye emojis. At the moment, Xander doesn't appear to be in a relationship, or at least a public one, and is focusing on their career as a Physical Therapist and Mind and Body Coach. Despite Yoly tearfully accepting Mal's proposal in the finale, the pair broke up soon after filming as old issues resurfaced and Yoly's lingering feelings for Xander became clear. Xander and Yoly's relationship fizzled, however. The pair remained single for some time after the show, but Yoly is now in a relationship with a content creator named appears in many of Mal's Instagram posts and things seem to be going well for them. When it comes to work, Yoly founded Lovers and Friends Chicago, which is a community for 30+ lesbians and queer allies. She also spends a lot of her time travelling and creating content. Mal is in a new relationship with dancer Sammy Picone, and the fans approve, calling them an "awesome match". In February, Mal shared a carousel of pics and videos with Sammy alongside the caption: "It's quite simple. I love you." Sammy commented: "*zoomies activate* Baby I adore you. Thank goodness the universe persistently nudged us into each others' orbit." Asides from their relationship, Mal is a mental health advocate, producer and makes fashion and lifestyle content. The Ultimatum: Queer Love season two is currently streaming on Netflix.
